No brand wins across the board. In the Consumer Reports 2026 Buying Guide’s washer-dryer pair examples, the LG pairs score higher than the Samsung pairs in every load style the guide lists, but the Samsung front-load pair is also the cheapest front-load example. The practical question is therefore not “Samsung or LG?” but “which exact washer and dryer pair, at what price, fits my laundry space and habits?”
The scores and prices below come from a small set of named examples. They show how specific models compare in that guide. They do not show that every LG model outperforms every Samsung model.

The Consumer Reports 2026 Buying Guide on washer-dryer pairs groups its examples by washer type. The table below lists every LG and Samsung pair it names, with the example price and score shown in the guide.

Front-load pairs
The LG WM8900HBA / DLEX8900B scores 85 at $2,200. The Samsung WF45B6300AW / DVE45B6300W scores 77 at $1,490. In these examples, the LG pair costs $710 more and scores 8 points higher. Whether that gap is worth paying depends on capacity, features, and how much you value the score for your own laundry.
HE top-load pairs
The LG WT7000CW / DLE7000W scores 80 at $1,260. The Samsung WA55CG7100AW / DVE55CG7100W scores 70 at $2,000. Here the LG example is both cheaper and higher scoring, which is the clearest pattern in the guide’s examples. It still rests on one pair from each brand.
Agitator top-load pairs
The LG WT8205CW / DLE8200W scores 80 at $1,899. The Samsung WA46CG3505AW / DVE47CG3500W scores 72 at $1,710. The LG pair costs $189 more and scores 8 points higher.
Start with load style, not brand
Choose the washer type before you compare brands. A front-load washer, an HE top-load, and an agitator top-load differ in loading, in the space they need around them, and in how their cycles work. A pair that suits a tight laundry closet may be the wrong choice for a family with heavy loads.
- Front-load: Usually requires a door opening in front and a level, stable floor. Check door swing and whether the dryer can be stacked or placed on a pedestal.
- HE top-load: Loads from the top and suits people who want to avoid bending. Check the lid clearance above the unit and the depth needed for the hoses.
- Agitator top-load: Uses a central agitator rather than a drum tumble. Confirm that the cleaning and drying results and capacity suit the fabrics you wash most.
Energy and water: compare exact listings
ENERGY STAR publishes energy and water data for certified clothes washers in its public product database. The figures below are the listed values for two model families, as accessed in 2026:
- Samsung WF45A64 model family (the listing uses a wildcard suffix): 93 kWh per year and 3,807 gallons per year.
- LG WM6700H model family (the listing uses a wildcard suffix): 105 kWh per year and 4,425 gallons per year.
These numbers describe two listed families, not a matched head-to-head test. The two families may differ in capacity and configuration. Look up the exact washer model you plan to buy in the ENERGY STAR database and compare it with a washer of the same type and capacity. Listings can change, so use the live entry at the time of purchase.
Features and formats
LG
LG’s U.S. washer information describes front-load and top-load options, including agitator and impeller approaches. It also promotes WashTower and WashCombo configurations. These are manufacturer descriptions. Confirm each feature on the model’s specification page before you buy, since features differ between models.

Samsung
Samsung announced a new Bespoke AI washer and dryer lineup for select markets, with rollout beginning in July 2026. The announcement says capacities and availability vary by region and model. If you live outside those markets, or if a retailer does not stock the model, the announced lineup may not be an option for you.

Warranty terms
LG states that select washers carry a 10-year limited warranty on the inverter direct-drive motor. This is a component warranty. It does not mean the whole washer is covered for 10 years, and it applies only to the models LG names. Read the warranty document for your exact model before you rely on it.
The reviewed material did not establish Samsung’s warranty terms for these models. Check Samsung’s model page or warranty document for the washer and dryer you are considering, and compare the length, the covered parts, and any conditions.
Reliability and service
The Consumer Reports scores are the guide’s assessment of the pairs it lists. The guide excerpt does not show enough of its testing method to support a claim about how long any brand’s washers last, and the scores should not be read as failure rates. Nothing in the material reviewed establishes a consistent national service advantage for either brand. Service quality depends on your local dealers and technicians, so ask a local repair shop which brand they support most often before you buy.
