Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is a thinner, lighter foldable announced for South Korea in October 2024. It measures 10.6 mm thick when folded, weighs 236 g, and pairs an 8.0-inch inner display with a 6.5-inch cover display. Samsung announced a Korean price of KRW 2,789,600; the cited launch information does not establish a release outside South Korea.
What is the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition?
The Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is a Samsung foldable phone announced by Samsung Electronics Korea on October 21, 2024. Samsung scheduled its South Korean launch for October 25, with sales through Samsung.com and the online stores of SK Telecom, KT and LG U+. SK Telecom separately confirmed that launch date and offered an inventory-alert service through its T Direct Shop from October 21. Samsung’s announcement and SK Telecom’s release describe the Korean launch; they do not establish a global release.
The phone comes in one announced finish, Black Shadow. Samsung describes its exterior as a stripe pattern using metal and glass materials. Its principal changes over the Galaxy Z Fold6 are a slimmer, lighter body, larger displays, and a 200-megapixel main camera.
How thin is Samsung’s Special Edition Fold?
Samsung specifies a thickness of 10.6 mm when folded and a weight of 236 g. SK Telecom gives the unfolded thickness as 4.9 mm. These figures refer to different states of the hinge, so they should not be compared as if they measured the phone in the same position. Samsung says the Special Edition is 1.5 mm thinner and 3 g lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold6 when folded.

For context, Samsung Mobile Press’s July 9, 2025 engineering retrospective lists the 2024 Galaxy Z Fold6 at 12.1 mm folded and 5.6 mm unfolded, and the later Galaxy Z Fold7 at 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm unfolded. Samsung defines folded thickness as the measurement from the cover display to the rear glass, and unfolded thickness as the measurement from the main display to the rear glass. The Fold7 figures describe a different product, not a newer version of the Special Edition. Samsung Mobile Press explains the measurement convention and comparison.
What are the displays and camera specifications?
Displays
Samsung lists an 8.0-inch (203.1 mm) main display with a 20:18 aspect ratio and a 6.5-inch (164.8 mm) cover display with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The larger inner screen provides the unfolded workspace; the wider cover-screen format is intended to make the phone more usable while closed. Samsung’s announcement provides the display measurements.

Cameras
The rear camera system’s headline feature is a 200 MP wide-angle camera, which Samsung described as the first 200-megapixel camera in the Galaxy Z series. SK Telecom lists a 12 MP ultrawide camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera, along with up to 30× digital zoom. Digital zoom is not the same as optical magnification; the cited release does not specify a 30× optical zoom capability.

How does it compare with the Galaxy Z Fold6?
The available specifications show the Special Edition’s most concrete differences from the Fold6. For the Special Edition, Samsung gives folded thickness, weight, displays, memory and processor; the unfolded thickness and camera details come from SK Telecom. The Fold6 thickness figures below are from Samsung Mobile Press’s 2025 retrospective of the 2024 model.

Samsung’s stated difference—1.5 mm thinner and 3 g lighter—compares the Special Edition with the Fold6 in the folded state. The cited specifications do not support a full feature-by-feature comparison for every Fold6 category.

What is not established by the cited specifications?
The cited Samsung and SK Telecom announcements do not state the battery capacity, an IP rating, durability-test results, a long-term software-support duration, or current stock status. They also do not establish an international launch. Those details should not be inferred from the phone’s thin profile or from specifications of other Galaxy Z Fold models.
