At its July 10, 2024, Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 foldable phones, Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch7, and Galaxy Ring. The lineup ranged from a book-style phone built around a larger workspace to a compact flip phone, two distinct earbud fits, and wrist- and finger-worn wellness devices. This is an event first look based on Samsung’s announcements, not an independent hands-on test.

What did Samsung announce at Unpacked?

Samsung held Galaxy Unpacked at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris on July 10, 2024. The event introduced the Galaxy Z Fold6, Galaxy Z Flip6, Galaxy Buds3 series, Galaxy Watch Ultra, Galaxy Watch7, and Galaxy Ring. Samsung framed the event around Galaxy AI and connected devices; its feature descriptions and product positioning are manufacturer claims, not independent performance findings. Samsung’s event recap quotes TM Roh, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Mobile eXperience Business, saying, “Galaxy AI will be available on 200 million Galaxy devices this year.” That was a stated target for 2024, not a confirmed result. Roh also said, “We are proactively collaborating with industry leaders to develop and deploy safe and inclusive AI technology.” This is Samsung’s stated approach, not an independent safety assessment.

What’s new in the Galaxy Z Flip6 and Z Fold6?

The two phones share a foldable design but serve different workflows: the Fold6 opens like a book for a larger interior display, while the Flip6 folds into a compact clamshell and emphasizes its outer display and flexible camera positioning.

Galaxy Z Fold6: a larger workspace

Samsung described the Fold6 as its thinnest and lightest Z Fold at the time, with a revised cover-screen ratio and display changes intended to improve durability and reduce the visible crease. The company’s U.S. launch announcement specifies a 7.6-inch main display and a 6.3-inch cover display, both with adaptive 120 Hz refresh rates. Its Unpacked demonstrations included Circle to Search, Composer, and Sketch to Image. These are Samsung’s feature descriptions and examples; the announcements do not establish independent results for durability, crease visibility, or productivity.

Galaxy Z Flip6: compact folding and hands-free framing

Samsung positioned the Flip6 around the FlexWindow cover display, FlexCam hands-free photography, and Galaxy AI features such as Interpreter. The company also promoted a flagship-level camera experience, longer battery life, and a vapor chamber. The announcements provide no independent battery-life or camera measurements, so these should be read as manufacturer claims rather than comparative test results.

How are the Galaxy Ring and Watch Ultra different?

Samsung presented both as health and wellness wearables, but they occupy different places and suit different priorities. The Watch Ultra is a screen-equipped wrist device pitched for rugged, outdoor-oriented use; the Ring is a small finger-worn device Samsung positioned for sleep and continuous wellness tracking.

Galaxy Watch Ultra

Samsung introduced the 47 mm Watch Ultra as a rugged, outdoor-oriented smartwatch running Wear OS 5, with health and GPS features discussed alongside the Galaxy Watch7. The U.S. availability announcement listed Titanium Gray, Titanium White, and Titanium Silver. Those announcements establish Samsung’s intended positioning, not independent battery, GPS accuracy, health accuracy, or durability results.

  • Built tough with IP48 water resistance, an enhanced Armor Aluminum hinge, Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, combining style, durability, and secure access.

Galaxy Ring

Samsung described the Galaxy Ring as a small wearable for sleep and continuous wellness tracking. Its global availability announcement listed nine size options and Titanium Black, Titanium Silver, and Titanium Gold. The range of sizes makes fit a practical consideration: a ring must suit the wearer’s finger, while a watch is worn on the wrist. Samsung’s wellness framing does not make the Ring a diagnostic device.

Choose based on the form factor and functions you want, rather than assuming the devices are interchangeable. A watch is the more natural fit if you want a wrist-worn smartwatch with outdoor and GPS features; the Ring is aimed at people who prefer a smaller wearable for sleep and ongoing wellness tracking. Feature availability and behavior can vary by phone, region, or language, so confirm compatibility for the configuration you plan to use.

What’s the difference between Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro?

Samsung gave both earbuds a blade- or stem-style design, but distinguished them by fit: the Buds3 are open type, while the Buds3 Pro are canal type, according to the company’s global availability announcement. Fit is the main supported point of comparison here. An open design does not sit in the ear canal the same way a canal design does, so comfort and preference matter more than any unsupported claim that one sounds better.

What this event first look can—and cannot—tell you

Samsung’s event and launch announcements establish what the company introduced, how it described the devices, and when it announced availability. They do not provide independent testing of foldable durability, battery endurance, earbud audio comparisons, watch GPS performance, or health-measurement accuracy. Nor should wellness indicators be treated as medical diagnoses. For features that depend on a connected Galaxy phone, language, or region, check Samsung’s current compatibility information for the exact device and market.
