The Samsung UE55M80H is a 55-inch 4K Mini LED TV with 144 Hz variable-refresh support, but its gaming-oriented specifications do not guarantee a bright HDR picture. In measurements reported by TechRadar, the set produced relatively modest full-screen and peak brightness compared with the QN80H used in the same comparison. Whether it is worth buying depends on its local price, your room and the exact regional model: Samsung’s UK listing for UE55M80HAUXXU currently says the TV is no longer available.

What is the Samsung UE55M80H?

Samsung identifies UK model UE55M80HAUXXU as its 55-inch M80H 4K Mini LED Vision AI Smart TV for 2026. The company lists 3840 × 2160 resolution, an NQ4 AI Gen2 processor, HDR10+ support, Auto HDR Remastering, Supreme Mini LED Dimming and 4K AI Upscaling. These are Samsung’s advertised specifications, not independent findings about picture quality. The Samsung UK product page currently marks this SKU “No longer available.”

The UK newsroom describes 55-, 65-, 75- and 85-inch versions of the M80H in Samsung’s 2026 lineup, positioning the range for sports, gaming and everyday viewing. Its description of the M80H as the lineup’s “most advanced Mini LED experience” is Samsung’s positioning, not an independent ranking. Model identifiers and availability differ by country, so the UK suffix and listing should not be assumed to apply elsewhere.

How bright is the M80H in independent measurements?

Brightness is the clearest caution in the available independent evidence. In a June 5, 2026 comparison, TechRadar reported these results for the M80H:

Picture mode and measurement Samsung M80H Samsung QN80H comparator
Standard mode, full-screen SDR 179 nits (TechRadar, 2026) 325 nits (TechRadar, 2026)
Standard mode, full-screen HDR 269 nits (TechRadar, 2026) 634 nits (TechRadar, 2026)
Movie mode, peak HDR 252 nits (TechRadar, 2026) 1,152 nits (TechRadar, 2026)
Filmmaker Mode, peak HDR 259 nits (TechRadar, 2026) 1,149 nits (TechRadar, 2026)

These are TechRadar’s reported results in the named modes, not measurements repeated here. They show that the M80H was substantially dimmer than the QN80H in that test; they do not establish how every scene, sample or viewing environment will look. Brightness can matter if the TV will face strong daylight or if you want HDR highlights to stand out. The comparison is not a complete verdict on either set: the available results do not establish local-dimming behavior, blooming, reflections, viewing angles or gaming latency.

Samsung advertises Mini LED HDR and dimming features, but those labels alone do not determine perceived HDR impact. Consider the independent brightness results alongside the price and viewing conditions rather than treating “Mini LED” as a guarantee of a particularly bright picture.

Is the Samsung M80H good for gaming?

On paper, the M80H supports a high refresh rate: Samsung lists 144 Hz VRR and a 100 Hz native refresh rate, and says all three HDMI inputs support 4K at 144 Hz. This is a useful advertised capability for compatible gaming hardware. It is not evidence of measured input lag, VRR behavior in every setup or performance with a particular console or PC. Check the output settings and connection requirements of your source device before buying.

Samsung also lists Motion Xcelerator 144 Hz. That is a manufacturer feature name; it should not be read as an independent measurement of motion clarity or as proof that every source supplies 144 frames per second. A gaming comparison should include measured latency and VRR testing, neither of which is established by the cited evidence.

What are the sound, connections and smart-TV features?

Samsung specifies 20 W RMS output from two-channel speakers, with OTS Lite, Adaptive Sound+, Active Voice Amplifier and Q-Symphony. The TV has HDMI eARC for external audio. The stated speaker output is a specification, not a test of loudness or dialogue quality; consider your room and listening preferences when deciding whether the built-in audio is sufficient.

Samsung lists three HDMI inputs, one USB-A port, Ethernet, Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.3, along with Tizen Smart TV. Apps, voice assistants and services can vary by region. The listed eARC connection gives an external-audio connection option, but check the exact TV and accessory specifications rather than assuming any particular soundbar or cable is compatible.

Should you buy the Samsung UE55M80H?

The M80H is most compelling if you specifically want Samsung’s advertised 4K 144 Hz input support and can find the exact model at a price that makes sense for you. The reported brightness figures are a material concern for bright rooms and HDR-focused viewing. Since the evidence does not establish several other important picture and gaming measures, compare independently tested alternatives before deciding on picture performance alone.

  • Consider it if its high-refresh input specification fits your gaming setup and local pricing is attractive.
  • Compare alternatives if bright-room viewing or vivid HDR highlights are priorities; TechRadar’s results show lower brightness than its QN80H comparator in the reported modes.
  • Verify before paying that the product is the right country-specific SKU, is in stock, and includes the services and support terms you expect.

For the EU product information sheet, Samsung lists 144 Hz default refresh, a minimum guaranteed software/firmware update availability period of eight years, seven years of spare-parts availability and seven years of product support. Separately, Samsung’s UK product page states that its security-update period is at least five years from launch, through 31 December 2031. These are differently scoped statements and should not be treated as interchangeable guarantees.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Match the model number to your country. Confirm the full suffix on the listing and the manufacturer’s regional page; services and availability may differ.
  2. Check current stock and price. Samsung’s UK page currently marks UE55M80HAUXXU as no longer available, which does not determine stock in other markets or with other sellers.
  3. Compare evidence that matters to your room and use. Look for independent results on brightness, local dimming and blooming, reflections, viewing angles, gaming latency and VRR, rather than relying only on feature names.
  4. Confirm installation and accessories. Samsung lists support for its Full Motion Slim Wall Mount (Y22); verify mount SKU, VESA fit, wall construction and regional compatibility before ordering a mount.
