If your Samsung SmartTag 3 is not connecting or its map location is stale, first try refreshing it in SmartThings Find. If you are nearby, use Search Nearby or Ring; if it is out of Bluetooth range, its location depends on another participating Galaxy Find Network device detecting it. Check the battery and finding settings before attempting to reset or pair it again. Samsung’s available support guidance covers SmartTag and SmartTag+ generally, so verify SmartTag 3-specific reset and battery instructions in the model’s manual or with Samsung support.
Refresh the tag in SmartThings Find

Open SmartThings Find and select your SmartTag.

Tap the refresh control to request updated device information and location. Menu names and placement can vary by app version and region.

Check the displayed location history if you need context for when the tag was last reported. Samsung’s SmartThings Support article says SmartTag location history can be available for up to seven days: Samsung SmartThings Find support.

A refresh is a request, not a guarantee of a live location. A map pin can remain unchanged even when the app is working correctly.

Understand nearby finding versus remote updates

Samsung UK states BLE range up to 120 metres; this is not a guaranteed distance in every environment. Walls, interference, and surroundings can affect a direct connection. When the tag is outside Bluetooth range, a stale map pin may mean that no network node has reported it—not that your phone has lost its connection to the tag’s remote service. If you are close to the tag, use Search Nearby or Ring
These tools address local finding, not remote network reporting. In SmartThings Find, select the tag and start Search Nearby; use the signal-strength display as you move around. If Ring is available, use it to help locate a tag hidden nearby. If neither feature can connect, move closer and check the battery before treating a stale remote pin as a pairing failure. Check the battery without guessing its size
SmartThings can show the tag’s battery level. Check it in the app; a fully discharged battery can stop location updates. Samsung’s general SmartTag support describes a coin-cell battery, but the sources available do not establish the SmartTag 3’s exact battery size. Before buying a replacement, confirm the battery type and polarity printed on your tag or listed in the manual for your exact model. Do not rely on instructions for an older SmartTag model. Check finding settings and app version

In SmartThings, review Offline Finding and location-information settings. Make sure finding has not been disabled and that the relevant location access remains enabled.

Update the SmartThings app, then reopen SmartThings Find and try refreshing the tag again. Samsung’s connection guide recommends keeping SmartThings updated: Samsung SmartTag connection and use guide.
Exact setting labels and paths may differ by region and app version; use the corresponding options shown in your installed app.

Re-pairing or resetting a SmartTag 3
Samsung’s US support provides reset and remove-and-add guidance for SmartTag and SmartTag+, but that does not confirm the same button sequence for SmartTag 3. Do not apply older-model reset instructions by assumption. Consult the SmartTag 3 manual or contact Samsung support for the model-specific sequence before removing or resetting the tag. If you are nearby, try Search Nearby or Ring and inspect the battery level.

If the tag is far away, remember that an update requires a nearby participating Galaxy Find Network device to detect and report it.

If the battery is depleted or no network device encounters the tag, the displayed location may remain unchanged even though the app itself is functioning.

If refreshing, finding settings, app updates, and battery checks do not resolve a nearby connection problem, consult Samsung support for SmartTag 3-specific troubleshooting before resetting or re-pairing.
