To disable the Samsung Side Panel, open Settings > Display > Edge panels and turn off the Edge panels switch. Samsung calls the feature Edge panels; the route may vary in appearance, and the feature may not be available on every Galaxy model or software version. Samsung’s instructions use this setting path.
Turn off the Samsung Side Panel
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Find and tap Edge panels.
- Switch Edge panels off.
The panels will no longer be available from the screen edge. To restore them, return to Settings > Display > Edge panels and switch the feature on again. Samsung Colombia’s instructions describe the same setting for turning Edge panels on or off.
Keep Edge panels but make the handle less noticeable
If you want to keep using the panels but dislike the handle, leave Edge panels enabled and adjust the handle instead. Samsung lists controls for its position, size, color, and transparency; you can also move it to the left or right side of the screen. The handle is the small tab used to open the panels. Samsung notes that Edge panels may not be available on every device model or software version. Settings layouts can also differ between Galaxy devices and software releases, so a screen shown for one model may not match yours. Search Settings for “Edge panels” if the Display menu does not make the option easy to spot; if it is absent, your device or software version may not support the feature. Samsung’s support page includes the availability caveat.

Why panel choices may look different
Samsung says One UI 6.1.1 reorganized Edge panels: Smart select was integrated into the Apps panel, and the separate Smart select panel was removed. This update explains a possible difference in which panels are listed; Samsung’s general instructions still put the on/off switch under Settings > Display > Edge panels.
