Samsung announced the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra on January 22, 2025, positioning the trio around Galaxy AI and Gemini actions across compatible apps. The headline change is an AI-first experience; Samsung also announced a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform and long-term software support.
What Samsung announced for the Galaxy S25 family
The S25 family consists of three phones: Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Samsung described them as an AI-first platform with multimodal agents—tools intended to work across different kinds of input and compatible apps—rather than as phones whose AI is limited to a single assistant screen.
All three use the customized Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform. Samsung also promised seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Those are Samsung’s stated support commitments; the announcement does not specify here which individual OS versions will be delivered or give a calendar end date.

How Gemini works on the Galaxy S25
Pressing and holding the side button activates Gemini. Samsung says it can take actions across compatible Samsung and Google apps, as well as selected third-party apps such as Spotify. What it can do depends on app compatibility and the requested task, so this is not a promise that Gemini can control every app or perform every action.

At its launch event, Samsung demonstrated a YouTube-to-Samsung-Notes task: the user asked Gemini to identify a place mentioned in a video and save it to Notes. Google separately announced S25-specific Gemini, Circle to Search and Now Bar experiences. Together, these features point to a phone that can connect questions and actions across supported apps, while the actual workflow depends on the apps and features available to the user.
