The 2026 Samsung R95H shows what RGB-backlit TVs can do: it combines strong full-screen HDR brightness with excellent reflection control and high refresh-rate gaming. But it does not dethrone elite OLED. In TechRadar’s direct comparison, the LG G6 OLED was preferred overall for contrast, texture, and color, while the R95H’s advantage was clearer in bright-room viewing and sustained brightness.
What is the Samsung R95H, and what makes it an RGB TV?
The R95H is Samsung’s flagship 2026 Micro RGB television, part of a lineup announced on April 14 alongside the R85H series. Unlike OLED, where each pixel produces its own light, the R95H uses an RGB backlight: thousands of tiny red, green, and blue LEDs emit light behind the screen. Samsung says this design is intended to reduce color bleed and expand color. Those are the manufacturer’s claims; the independent comparisons below describe the tested TV’s observed performance.
Samsung Electronics America’s Home Entertainment chief Shane Higby called the lineup “a new standard for color and realism previously impossible in TV technology.” That is promotional language, not an independent test result. The R95H’s more defensible significance is that it makes the backlit approach compelling in areas where OLED can be challenged, without removing the limits that come with a backlight. It is not the same display structure as OLED, and the R95H should be judged as an advanced backlit TV rather than as an OLED equivalent.

Where the R95H is strongest: bright rooms and full-screen HDR
The clearest case for the R95H is a room with substantial ambient light or reflections. In TechRadar’s side-by-side test with the LG G6, the R95H’s matte Glare Free screen suppressed mirror-like reflections more effectively. That can matter more in daytime viewing than a peak-brightness figure alone.
Brightness depends on how much of the screen is lit. In HDR Filmmaker Mode, TechRadar measured the R95H at 1,977 nits on a 10% window and 612 nits full-screen. In the same review’s Samsung S95H/S99H comparison, the OLED measured 2,739 nits on a 10% window but 449 nits full-screen. The result illustrates why “brighter” needs a test condition: the Samsung OLED produced the higher small highlight, while the R95H sustained more brightness across the whole screen. These are TechRadar’s measurements using its methods and tested settings, not guarantees for every unit or configuration. TechRadar’s R95H review

In the direct LG G6 comparison, TechRadar measured 612 nits full-screen HDR for the R95H and 451 nits for the G6, again in HDR Filmmaker Mode. The reviewer also found the R95H’s anti-reflection treatment more effective. This is a meaningful advantage for bright-room sports, daytime programming, or scenes that keep much of the picture bright; it does not establish that the R95H wins every brightness comparison or viewing condition. The R95H’s RGB LEDs still illuminate a panel from behind. OLED’s self-emissive pixels can turn off individually, so there is no backlight to bloom around bright objects against a dark background. TechRadar saw off-axis backlight blooming on the R95H, while the LG G6 avoided that limitation and was preferred overall for contrast and texture. The reviewer said the R95H impressed for a backlit TV, but did not match OLED’s dark-scene depth.

Color presentation was also different rather than a simple win for the RGB set. TechRadar described the R95H as more neutral and arguably more accurate, while the G6 rendered richer, deeper color. The reviewer preferred the G6 overall. That judgment applies to this tested pairing, not every OLED model or every viewer’s preference. TechRadar’s comparison
What Hi-Fi? likewise positioned the R95H as a backlit alternative to Samsung’s S99H OLED and noted how difficult it is to justify a backlit set against strong OLEDs at similar prices. That reinforces the practical question: do you value reflection handling and full-screen brightness more than OLED’s pixel-level contrast? What Hi-Fi?’s R95H review

Gaming, HDR formats, and connections
RTINGS lists four HDMI 2.1 ports, support for up to 4K at 165Hz or 1080p at 240Hz, and compatibility with all three VRR types. Those specifications make the R95H a flexible high-refresh-rate gaming display for compatible sources. RTINGS also lists HDR10+ and Dolby audio-format support, but says the TV does not support Dolby Vision or DTS. If your movie library relies on Dolby Vision or your sound system needs DTS passthrough, check the formats you actually use before buying. RTINGS’ Samsung R95H review

Prices should be checked locally at the time of purchase rather than treated as fixed. Samsung US showed $6,499.99 for the 85-inch model when its listing was captured in 2026. TechRadar reported a 65-inch launch price of $3,199 in the US, £3,099 in the UK, and AU$5,299 in Australia, plus later lower observed US and UK prices. What Hi-Fi? reported launch prices of $3,200, £3,299, and AU$5,299. The different UK launch figures are source-specific snapshots, not a single agreed price. TechRadar · What Hi-Fi?
Who should consider the R95H?
- Consider it if your room is bright, reflections routinely distract you, or you value sustained brightness across large areas of the picture.
- Compare it carefully with OLED if you mainly watch films in a dark room and prioritize deep blacks, precise contrast, and rich color.
- Check formats and sources if Dolby Vision, DTS, or a particular gaming refresh rate is important to your setup.
- Compare current local prices against elite OLED models in the same size; the reviews do not make a general case that the R95H is the better value at similar prices.
For broader context on the model’s performance and test methodology, see RTINGS’ review and the comparison results from TechRadar.
