Samsung One UI is the interface and software experience used on Galaxy phones and tablets. To see which version your device runs, open Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information. To check for an update, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. Whether a particular update or feature is available depends on your exact model, country, carrier, and rollout status.
What is Samsung One UI?
One UI is Samsung’s software interface for Galaxy devices. It shapes the home and lock screens, navigation, notifications, settings, and Samsung’s built-in tools. One UI changes over time: a feature described for One UI 8 does not necessarily exist on a device running One UI 7, and a version update does not guarantee that every new feature works on every Galaxy model.
To find the installed version, go to Settings > About phone (or About tablet) > Software information and look for the One UI version. Menu wording can vary slightly by device or software build.

- Connect the Galaxy device to Wi-Fi and make sure it has enough battery, or connect it to a charger.
- Open Settings > Software update.
- Tap Download and install. If an update is offered, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it.
- If no update appears, check again later and consult Samsung’s support information for your exact model, country, and carrier. A rollout may be staged, and carrier-locked devices can receive updates later than unlocked ones.
Samsung’s US support page cautions that “Available features and functions may vary by device, carrier, and network.” A device-family announcement is not proof that an update has reached every owner in every market.

Which Galaxy devices support One UI 8?
Samsung announced the official One UI 8 rollout on September 15, 2025, beginning with the Galaxy S25 series. The announcement also named the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6, Galaxy S24 FE, and other eligible Galaxy products, including selected S, Z, Tab S, and A-series devices. Samsung’s US support page lists a selection of models, and its list may differ from global announcements or change as support information is updated. For One UI 7, Samsung Canada’s guide gives examples of supported or launch-device families, including Galaxy S21 through S25, Fold and Flip generations, Tab S8 through S10, and selected A-series models. These examples are not a guarantee for every market or model variant. Carrier, country, and device-specific availability still matter. See Samsung Canada’s One UI 7 guide.

What changes between One UI 7 and One UI 8?
Samsung’s announcements describe version-level capabilities, not a promise that every listed function is available on every device. The table summarizes the changes Samsung highlights; model, region, carrier, account, and feature requirements can affect what appears on a particular Galaxy device.

One UI features to explore in everyday use
Notifications and Quick settings
One UI 7 refreshes the notification and Quick settings experience. Depending on the device and configuration, the panels can be accessed or navigated differently from earlier One UI versions. If your screen does not match Samsung’s directions, check the instructions for your model rather than assuming the feature is missing.
Personalization and Now Bar
Samsung describes a simplified home screen, redesigned widgets and lock screen, and the Now Bar in One UI 7. In One UI 8, the Now Bar is expanded to surface real-time activity information. The precise items and presentation depend on the device and supported apps or services.

Galaxy AI tools
Samsung’s One UI 7 materials include Writing Toolkit, Visual Creation Toolkit, and Notification Highlights. One UI 8 materials describe multimodal interactions and tools such as Audio Eraser and Call Captions, along with AI Results View on larger screens. These are examples from Samsung’s feature descriptions, not a promise that each tool will appear on every supported Galaxy device.
Samsung says One UI 8’s Now Brief can draw on information such as traffic, reminders, and Samsung Health data, and requires a Samsung Account login. Consider the data and account requirements shown in the feature’s settings before enabling it.

What to know about Galaxy AI privacy and terms
Samsung describes KEEP as creating encrypted, app-specific storage environments for certain AI experiences. It also describes Knox Matrix as responding to certain serious device risks, and One UI 8’s announcement mentions post-quantum cryptography. These are Samsung’s descriptions of product design; they are not an independent security audit or a guarantee that every AI operation happens locally or handles data in the same way.
Samsung’s US One UI 8 support page says basic Galaxy AI features are free, while enhanced Samsung AI and third-party AI features may have different terms and may be subject to fees. Check the terms shown for the particular feature and your region rather than assuming all AI capabilities share one price or data policy.
How to tell whether a feature or update is right for your device
- Check the installed version: Settings > About phone or About tablet > Software information.
- Check the exact model: use the device information in Settings and match it to Samsung’s regional support page; a broad family name may cover different variants.
- Check rollout status: Settings > Software update > Download and install, then consult Samsung support for your country and carrier.
- Check feature requirements: confirm model support and any Samsung Account, network, app, or terms requirements shown for that feature.
Samsung’s published availability information is the best starting point, but the update screen on the device is the practical check for whether a rollout has reached that particular phone or tablet.
