Samsung One UI Home is the launcher on Galaxy devices that provides the Home and Apps screens. It can appear in Google activity because Google’s Web & App Activity setting saves activity from some Google services and, when the related inclusion setting is on, activity from sites, apps and devices that use Google services. An entry that names One UI Home shows an association with the launcher. It does not, by itself, tell you what happened. To check an entry, open it in My Activity, and to change what is saved, use the Web & App Activity control in Google Account settings. Samsung also lists an Activity controls item in its Galaxy privacy menu on supported devices.

What One UI Home is

One UI Home is Samsung’s official Galaxy launcher. Samsung’s listing for the app on Google Play describes it as the launcher that provides the Home and Apps screens. It is the software that places icons, widgets and the app drawer on the screen, so it is involved in almost every tap on a Galaxy home screen. Being involved in an interface does not mean it is the source of a particular data record, which is why the activity question needs a closer look.

Why it can show up in Google activity

Google’s activity records are tied to your Google Account, not to the phone’s home screen. Google’s Account Help documentation describes two sources of saved activity:

  • Activity from some Google services, such as Search and other Google apps you use while signed in.
  • Additional activity from sites, apps and devices that use Google services, which is saved only when the inclusion setting in Web & App Activity is turned on.

Google’s help page says that, for records in these categories, details can include the language used, the referrer, whether an app or a browser was used, the device type and, in some cases, location information. Not every record contains every one of these details. A One UI Home entry therefore tells you that a Google-linked event was associated with the launcher. It does not show what the launcher did, what data it sent, or whether a Samsung feature was responsible.

Confirm which account is being shown

Before you review anything, check which Google Account is active. Google notes that activity may be saved to the default account used on a browser or device. On a shared phone, a tablet used by several people, or a device with more than one Google Account, the entry you are looking at may belong to a different person’s account than the one you expected. Switch accounts in the Google account menu, or sign out of the others, before you read your activity.

Review the entry in My Activity

  1. On the Galaxy device, open Settings, then tap Google.
  2. Tap Manage your Google Account.
  3. Tap Data & privacy.
  4. Under History settings, tap Web & App Activity to see whether the control is on and whether the inclusion setting for other sites, apps and devices is enabled.
  5. Open My Activity from your Google Account and find the entry. Read the full record, including its date, the service named, and any details listed, before deciding what it represents.

Browser history and on-device history are separate from account activity. If you are checking a browser session on the phone, the record may be stored on the device rather than in your Google Account, so look in the browser’s own history as well.

Turn off or delete Web & App Activity

Google’s help documentation gives two options in the Web & App Activity settings:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Turn off stops saving new activity under this control, but leaves existing saved activity in place.
  • Turn off and delete activity stops future saving and also removes past saved activity. Follow the confirmation prompts, and read them before you approve, because deletion cannot be undone.

Choose the option that matches your goal. If you only want to stop new records, turning the control off is enough. If you want to remove records that already exist, use the delete option and then recheck My Activity to confirm the entries are gone.

Samsung’s Activity controls entry

Samsung’s support page documents a Google-related item inside the Galaxy privacy menu. On supported devices, the path is:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Security and privacy.
  3. Tap More privacy settings.
  4. Scroll to the Google section and tap Activity controls.

Samsung’s page says that not all features are available on all devices, so the menu may be named differently or absent depending on the model and software version. The page does not state what the Activity controls item changes on the device, so verify any change in your Google Account settings rather than assuming the Samsung entry covers the same ground.

What the evidence does and does not establish

  • The launcher’s permissions. The Google Play listing says its optional storage permission restores home-screen layout data and its optional contacts permission restores contact-widget information. The listing’s Data safety section reads “No information available,” so it is not a complete account of what data the app handles.
  • The listing date. The listing shows an update date of September 5, 2019. It does not describe the behaviour of current One UI Home versions on current Galaxy software, so treat its wording as historical.
  • Google’s screens. Google’s help page says Search services settings are being updated. Menu names and layouts can therefore differ from the paths above, and the underlying control meaning stays the same.
  • Samsung’s privacy menu versus Google’s controls. Samsung’s support page separates Samsung privacy settings from Google privacy settings and lists Android personalization service separately from Activity controls. Keep these separate when you plan a change.
