Samsung announced the expanded One UI 9 rollout on September 16, 2026, starting with the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra. The update had already debuted on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8; Samsung says other eligible Galaxy devices will follow gradually. One UI 9 brings changes to video, summaries, device care, translation, document scanning, and privacy tools, but availability varies by model and market.
What’s new in One UI 9?
Samsung describes One UI 9 as a set of additions for everyday Galaxy use. The features below are Samsung’s descriptions, not independently measured claims about speed, battery life, reliability, or overall improvement.
Video framing and customizable information
- My FanCam: Tracks a selected person in recorded video and reframes the footage as that person moves. Samsung says a Samsung Account login is required, availability may vary by video, and tracking is unsupported when there is no subject to follow. Accuracy is not guaranteed.
- Now Brief: Generative and Editable Cards let users choose content across health, weather, and video. Some information depends on selected apps, connectivity, consent, and Personal Data Intelligence settings.
Device care and contextual suggestions
- Warranty and Care: Brings warranty checks, self-diagnostics, repair estimates, Samsung Care+ management, and service booking into Settings. Menu options and availability may differ by region.
- Now Nudge: Offers context-aware suggestions, such as retrieving reservation details or saving a location someone shared. Availability can depend on auto-suggestion settings and permissions.
- Creative Studio: Can prompt users to generate images related to an event. Prompts and access may depend on settings and permissions.
Translation, scanning, and recording
- Interpreter: Adds Thread View and faster playback in Conversation Mode. Compatible Galaxy Buds can support quicker playback; the Buds are optional, and are not required to install One UI 9.
- Document Scan: Improves capture of curved book pages and papers with folded corners. Large-screen optimized views are available on compatible devices.
- Voice Recorder: Can format summaries with headings and tables.
Security and privacy tools
- Security Brief: Surfaces notices about malware, apps from unknown sources, and unnecessary permissions.
- Privacy Alerts: Use on-device AI to flag potential privacy risks, including background permission access. Samsung cautions that alerts may not account for every relevant factor; availability varies by device and market.
- Scam Detection: Expands to additional markets and languages. Samsung’s U.S. announcement footnote names Japan, Canada, and India.
These tools provide alerts or protections, not a guarantee that every scam, malware threat, or privacy risk will be detected. Feature requirements can include compatible hardware, accounts, permissions, network access, language support, and regional availability.

When will your Galaxy get One UI 9?
Samsung’s September 16 announcement named the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra as the first phones in the expanded rollout. The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Z Fold8, and Z Flip8 had already received the software, and Samsung says other eligible Galaxy devices are expected to get it gradually. The announcement does not give a complete model-by-model schedule, so an eligible phone may not have the update yet.
#1 Best Overall
- PRIVACY DISPLAY: Automatically hide your screen from those beside you. The built-in privacy display can be preset¹ to turn on when receiving notifications, typing passwords, or using specific apps
- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
Availability also depends on location and carrier. Android Central reported on September 16 that the stable S26 rollout began in South Korea, with expansion to other regions underway. On September 28, it reported that Samsung had updated support pages for S26 builds on T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile, and US Cellular, and that unlocked U.S. devices were apparently beginning to receive the update. Those are dated, carrier-specific reports—not a schedule for every country, carrier, or Galaxy model.
How to check for the One UI 9 update
- Open Settings on your Galaxy phone.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install.
- If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts. If none appears, the release may not have reached your device or region yet; check again later.
Samsung’s announcements do not establish one universal arrival date for all eligible devices. Check your exact model and local carrier or regional support information rather than treating another Galaxy owner’s update as proof that yours should already be available.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.
- Camera: 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 50 MP, f/1.8, (wide), 1/2.76", 0.64µm, AF | 2 MP, f/2.4, (macro). Battery: 5000 mAh, non-removable | A power adapter is NOT included.
Is One UI 9 a game-changer?
That depends on which additions matter to you. My FanCam targets video reframing, Now Brief and Now Nudge aim to make information more contextual, and the Interpreter, scanning, and recording changes address specific tasks. Samsung has not published a measured comparison showing that the update improves performance, battery life, or user satisfaction, so those benefits should not be assumed. Whether the update is useful comes down to feature availability on your phone and whether these tools fit how you use it.
