Samsung’s One UI 7 rollout began on 7 April 2025, bringing a free software upgrade to a range of Galaxy phones and tablets, including some older models. That rollout is no longer new: availability depended on the device, region and carrier, so check your exact model in Settings rather than relying on a family-wide date.
What is the Samsung upgrade?
It is One UI 7, Samsung’s software update based on Android. Samsung announced a phased rollout starting 7 April 2025, with the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6 first, followed by other supported devices. The update itself was not a separately purchased product.
Samsung said rollout timing and availability could vary by market. An announcement for a phone family is not a guarantee that every model variant, carrier or country received the update on the same day.

Which older Galaxy devices were included?
Samsung’s global announcement named these device families for expansion after the initial rollout:

- TYPE IT IN. TRANSFORM IT FAST: Enhance any shot in seconds on your smartphone by using Photo Assist² with Galaxy AI.³ Add objects, restore details, or apply new styles by simply typing or tapping
- NIGHTS, CAPTURED CLEARLY: From gigs to city lights, record and capture moments after dark with clarity using Nightography so your photos and videos stay crisp and clear on your Samsung Galaxy
- MAKE IT. EDIT IT. SHARE IT: Turn everyday moments into something personal with creative tools built right into your mobile phone, whether it’s a special contact photo, custom wallpaper, an invitation or more⁴
- HELP THAT KEEPS UP: Stay in the moment while Now Nudge with Galaxy AI helps you respond faster and stay organized with smart suggestions⁵ that appear exactly when you need them on your phone
- Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S23 series and Galaxy S23 FE
- Galaxy Z Fold5 and Galaxy Z Flip5
- Galaxy Tab S10 series and Galaxy Tab S9 series
Samsung Singapore separately announced a local start date of 14 April 2025 and included the Galaxy S24, S24 FE, S23, S23 FE, S22, S21 and S21 FE families. That is evidence of the announced schedule for Singapore, not a schedule that should be assumed for other markets.
Stuff’s 7 April 2025 article also described the Galaxy A55 as eligible and said the Galaxy S22, Z Fold/Flip 3 and Tab S8 were expected later. Samsung’s official global and Singapore announcements give the clearest confirmed family-level lists above; the Stuff report’s “expected” devices should not be treated as confirmation of a live update for every model or region.

What changes with One UI 7?
Samsung highlighted a simplified home screen, redesigned widgets and lock screen, and the Now Bar, which can show selected real-time activity information on the lock screen. It also announced deeper Google Gemini integration and natural-language search in Settings. Samsung cautioned that services and features can vary by device, market and language.

These are not promises that every feature is available on every older Galaxy device. Samsung’s beta announcement in December 2024 said call transcripts supported 20 languages in that beta context; that figure does not establish the language or device availability of the final rollout.

Samsung US said at the time that Samsung Galaxy AI features would be free through 2025 and require a Samsung account. That dated US statement does not establish the terms of those services in 2026, and a free One UI update does not mean every AI service is permanently free.

- Open Settings on the Galaxy phone or tablet.
- Tap Software update.
- Tap Download and install to check whether an update is offered.
If One UI 7 is not offered, the result alone does not tell you whether your specific device is unsupported: availability and timing can differ by model and market. Confirm the exact model and check Samsung’s support information for your region rather than assuming an announced family-wide date applies to your device.
