To change pen color in Samsung Notes, open a note, tap the Pen or Pen mode control, then choose a color from the pen options. The new color applies to strokes you write next; existing handwriting needs to be selected and changed separately. Toolbar labels and locations vary by device and software version.
Change the pen color for new handwriting

Open Samsung Notes and open a note, or create one.

Tap the Pen, Pencil, or Pen mode control to show the handwriting tools.

Open the pen options and tap the color you want. Pen type and line thickness are available in the same tool area on the interfaces Samsung documents.

Write in the note. The selected color is used for new strokes.

Samsung’s Galaxy Notes guide describes Pen mode as the place to change pen type, line thickness, and pen color. On the Galaxy Z Fold6, Samsung’s handbook shows separate toolbar controls for color and thickness. If your screen differs, look in the note’s pen or drawing tools rather than relying on a particular icon position.
Change the color of handwriting already in the note
Choosing a different active pen color does not recolor strokes already on the page. To alter existing writing, select the handwriting you want to change, then choose Change style and adjust its color or line thickness if that option is available. Samsung documents this feature for selected handwriting, but the selection method and controls can vary by device. See Samsung’s handwriting-function instructions.

Save a pen color and style for reuse
If your version offers favorite pens, save a pen with the chosen pen type, color, and thickness. Samsung describes favorite-pen setup in its Galaxy Notes guide and the Galaxy Z Fold6 handbook. The control can depend on the device and S Pen support, so it may not appear in every toolbar.
Pen color and page background are different settings
Pen color changes the ink strokes, not the note’s page. Samsung documents background color as a separate note-style setting in its guidance for organizing notes and PDFs. If you want a different-looking page, look in note style or template settings rather than the pen palette.

Do you need an S Pen?
No. Changing the color is a Samsung Notes setting, not a paid hardware feature. Samsung says a supported touchscreen PC can accept handwriting from a stylus or finger even when an S Pen is not included; see its handwriting-function instructions. An S Pen is optional, and compatibility depends on the Galaxy model.

Make sure the note is in handwriting or pen mode; the color option is part of the pen tools.

Check for a collapsed pen-options menu or a different toolbar layout. Samsung’s PC instructions describe pen-mode options, but the interface is not identical to Galaxy mobile: Samsung Notes on a Samsung PC.
