Samsung Night mode brightens low-light photos without flash by combining multiple images into one. Samsung says the camera combines 30 images using multi-frame processing; the feature’s availability and controls depend on your Galaxy model and software version.
What Samsung Night mode does
Night mode is designed for still photos in dim conditions. Rather than relying on flash, the camera uses light captured by its sensors and processes multiple images together. Samsung describes this as multi-frame processing; its UK guidance calls it AI multi-frame processing and says it optimizes color and detail. Samsung does not publicly explain the precise frame-selection, alignment, denoising, or image-fusion steps, so those details should not be assumed.
Samsung’s current US support guidance says the camera combines 30 images into one photo. That is Samsung’s description of its processing method, not an independently measured quality result or a guarantee that every Galaxy model uses an identical implementation. Samsung’s US Night mode instructions provide the current general explanation; Samsung UK’s guide gives the same figure in guidance updated July 26, 2023.
How to find and use Night mode
On phones with Night mode as a separate camera mode, Samsung’s general US route is Camera > More > Night. Frame the subject and tap Capture. Labels and placement can differ across devices and software versions.

- Open Camera. Check the available shooting modes.
- Choose Night. On the common route, tap More, then Night.
- Compose and hold steady. Keep the phone still while the camera captures the scene.
- Tap Capture. Allow the capture to finish before moving the phone.
Samsung’s troubleshooting guidance describes a different, software-specific arrangement: starting with One UI 8.5, Night may be integrated into Photo mode and accessed through a crescent-moon Night shot control that appears according to lighting conditions. Samsung also describes enabling Night as a separate mode through Camera Assistant. These are not universal instructions for every Galaxy phone. Night mode is not available on every Galaxy device, and the menu path varies by model and software version. Samsung UK’s older device list was updated in July 2023, so it should not be treated as a complete current compatibility list. Samsung’s UK guide is useful for the devices it names, but consult your model’s current support page for a definitive answer.

How to get clearer night photos
Keep the phone still
Samsung advises holding the phone as steady as possible and suggests a tripod when available. Depending on the light, the camera may need to remain still for several seconds. A tripod can reduce camera movement during capture, but it cannot freeze a person, pet, or other moving subject. Night mode is the simpler choice when you want the phone to handle a low-light still photo automatically. If you are planning a stationary shot and want to set exposure yourself, Pro mode may offer controls such as shutter speed, ISO, exposure, focus, and white balance. Samsung notes that longer shutter times capture more light, while higher ISO can make images grainier. Controls vary by model; examples in Samsung’s low-light guide use a Galaxy S21 Ultra, so they do not establish that every current phone has the same settings.

These are different approaches, not a guaranteed quality ranking: Samsung’s guidance describes Night mode’s automatic purpose and Pro mode’s manual controls, but does not provide an independently controlled comparison of their image quality.

The 30-image figure explains Samsung’s stated processing approach, not how much sharper or brighter a photo will be in a particular scene. Samsung’s cited support material does not report an independently measured percentage improvement, benchmark, or controlled comparison. Results can depend on the phone, available light, and movement in the scene; avoid treating the mode as a guarantee of a sharp image.
