The file manager on most Samsung Galaxy phones is called My Files. Open the apps screen, look in the Samsung folder, and tap My Files. If it is not there, search your apps for “My Files.”
How to open the file manager
- Check the Samsung folder: Swipe up from the Home screen to open the apps screen, tap the Samsung folder, then tap My Files.
- Search for the app: If you do not see it in that folder, open the apps screen’s search and enter My Files.
Samsung says My Files is preinstalled on most Galaxy devices, but its location and the appearance of screens can vary by device and market. These are general routes, not a guarantee that the app icon will always be in the same place. Samsung’s UK guidance and Samsung’s Caribbean guidance describe these ways to find it.
Where to find downloaded files
In My Files, open Downloads first. If you know the file’s name, tap the Search icon and enter it. You can also browse by category or storage location; where a download appears can depend on the file type and the app that saved it. Samsung’s downloaded-files instructions cover these options.
If the file is a camera photo
Browse to Internal storage or SD card, then open DCIM > Camera. The SD-card route applies only if your device supports and has an SD card.

If an app download is missing
Some streaming services keep downloaded content protected so it can only be opened in the original app. Images from Google apps may also require the relevant storage permissions before they appear in My Files. If a file is not in Downloads, check the app that saved it and browse other categories or storage locations.
Browse and organize files in My Files
My Files lets you browse items by category and storage location. For example, a document may be easier to locate by its category, while a camera image can be found in the camera folder path above.

To organize items, Samsung’s file-management guidance describes creating folders under Internal storage and selecting files or folders to move. Copying or moving items to external storage is also possible on devices that support the relevant storage connection. Samsung’s Canada guide to organizing files and folders provides the steps.
When external storage is involved
SD-card support varies by Galaxy model, so do not assume your phone has an SD-card slot. USB or SD storage through an OTG connection is another option only on compatible devices. For locating a file already on the phone, start with My Files and check its available storage locations; external storage is not required to open the file manager. Samsung’s My Files guide discusses external-storage use.
