Test it in a text field by typing a deliberately misspelled word. Samsung describes spell check as marking misspellings with a red underline and suggesting likely corrections.
Samsung’s support instructions describe these controls, but note that available options and screens can differ by model, software version, and carrier. (Samsung UK support, updated 5 June 2026)

Use Settings if the keyboard gear is missing
Open Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings, then look for Auto spell check or the spelling option under Suggest text corrections. If your menus do not match, use the search field in Settings and search for Samsung Keyboard or spell check.
Older software may use a different route, such as Language and input > On-screen keyboard > Samsung Keyboard, or place the related control under Predictive text. Follow the labels shown on your device rather than assuming every Samsung phone has the same menu structure. (Samsung UK support)

Choose the language Samsung should check
Language controls do not appear under one universal label. Samsung’s Colombia guidance places language selection in Suggest text corrections; its Latin America guidance describes selecting Auto spell check and switching on the desired language. Look for a language switch associated with spelling corrections and enable the language you use. (Samsung Colombia support, updated 27 August 2026; Samsung Latin America support, updated 19 June 2026)
Spell check, predictive text, and auto replace are different
| Setting | What it changes | What to use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Auto spell check | Underlines misspelled words in red and suggests likely corrections. | Finding spelling mistakes as you type. |
| Predictive text | Suggests or changes words while you type. | Changing word suggestions or prediction behavior. |
| Auto replace | Completes or replaces a word with a likely choice. | Changing automatic word replacement behavior. |
These are separate controls in Samsung’s guidance. If you only want misspellings marked, turn on the spelling-correction option rather than changing predictive text or auto replace. (Samsung UK support)
