Samsung Sound, the standalone app for setting up and controlling compatible Samsung soundbars, Wi-Fi speakers and Music Frame devices, is being integrated into SmartThings. Android Authority reports that an in-app notice says the app will remain available until March 31, 2027. Samsung’s support pages explain how to add compatible audio devices to SmartThings, but do not independently confirm that deadline.
Which Samsung app is being phased out?
It is Samsung Sound, not Samsung’s SmartThings app or Samsung’s broader software lineup. Samsung’s US support page lists Q-Series soundbars, Wi-Fi Speakers and Music Frame among the product categories associated with Samsung Sound. The reported change concerns this dedicated audio app.
Android Authority says the app displayed the notice: “To provide a more convenient and unified experience, the Samsung Sound app is being integrated into SmartThings.” The report says the notice directs users to register their sound device in SmartThings to continue using existing settings. No named Samsung spokesperson is quoted in the report.
When will Samsung Sound stop being available?
Android Authority reports that the in-app notice gives March 31, 2027, as the date through which Samsung Sound will remain available. Treat this as a date reported from the app notice: Samsung’s US and Australian support pages reviewed here provide setup and control guidance, but do not independently confirm the discontinuation date.

Do you need to move a soundbar or speaker to SmartThings?
If you use Samsung Sound with a compatible device, SmartThings is the stated migration route. You can add a device using Samsung’s US instructions; the exact controls available afterward depend on the model and compatibility. Samsung Australia says SmartThings can power compatible soundbars on or off, adjust volume and change sound mode, but does not promise that every Samsung Sound setting or feature will carry over unchanged.
Add a compatible device in SmartThings
- Open SmartThings and select the location where you want to add the audio device.
- Tap Add device.
- Select the Samsung devices card.
- Choose Soundbar or Speaker, then follow the prompts to scan for and register the device.
These are Samsung’s US support instructions. Labels or available steps may differ by region or app version, so check the current instructions for your location and exact model. Samsung Australia says soundbars need network connectivity and registration to a single Samsung Account for SmartThings functionality.

Will SmartThings have all the same controls?
Do not assume so without checking your model. Samsung says device support and available functions vary with compatibility and model. Android Authority also reported that Samsung Sound initially lacked some controls available in SmartThings, including IP control, Auto Power Off and a Tap Sound shortcut, and that it did not offer a straightforward way to turn a soundbar off after switching it on. Those are observations attributed to Android Authority’s report, not a guarantee of how every model or app version behaves.
Before relying on a particular setting, check Samsung’s current regional support instructions for your model and confirm that the control you need appears in SmartThings after registration. The available material does not establish that all existing Samsung Sound settings transfer identically.

Does this mean you need a new soundbar?
No replacement purchase is identified as necessary for this software transition. The stated next step for owners of compatible devices is to register them in SmartThings and use the controls supported for their model. Buying new hardware is not a solution required by the reported app change.
