No—Samsung has not announced that it is leaving the consumer SSD market. In December 2025, a Samsung spokesperson told Wccftech, “The rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.” PC Gamer reported the same denial on December 16, 2025. Samsung’s 2026 first-quarter interim report also lists active consumer SSDs, including the 990 EVO Plus and 9100 PRO.
What Samsung denied—and what it did not announce
The rumor, amplified from a Moore’s Law Is Dead video, alleged that Samsung might stop making SATA SSDs, possibly shifting NAND capacity toward AI-related demand. That was an allegation, not a Samsung announcement. Samsung’s reported response addressed the claim directly: “The rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.” Wccftech reported the statement, and PC Gamer covered the denial on December 16, 2025.
The denial does not guarantee that every model will remain available in every country, or that prices and stock will stay unchanged. Those are separate questions from whether Samsung announced a market exit.

Samsung’s 1Q 2026 conference materials also discuss ongoing SSD development and forecast strong server SSD demand in the second half of 2026. That points to SSDs remaining a strategic product area, but server demand and consumer-drive availability are not the same thing. Samsung Electronics’ 1Q 2026 conference materials
Should you buy a Samsung SSD now?
There is no need to rush into a purchase solely because of the exit rumor: Samsung denied it, and its interim report documents current consumer products. Choose a drive based on your device and workload rather than assuming a specific model will disappear or become more expensive.

- HI RESOLUTION VIDEO RECORDING: Record Ultra High Resolution (4K 60fs) videos directly onto the T7 Portable SSD with your favorite camera or mobile devices; Supports iPhone 15 Pro Res 4K at 60fps video and more³
- Check the interface and compatibility. SATA and NVMe drives use different interfaces; confirm what your laptop, desktop, or console supports before ordering.
- Match performance to the workload. Consider the PCIe generation and whether your everyday use benefits from a faster drive. A headline peak speed alone does not describe sustained performance under every workload.
- Choose enough capacity. Compare available capacities with your storage needs, especially for large games, creative projects, or professional files.
- Account for installation and heat. Check the device’s physical clearance, cooling arrangements, and any required cable, bracket, or spacer. Samsung provides consumer installation guidance and documents installation-kit accessories. Samsung SSD installation guidance
- For portable storage, weigh portability and protection. Check the device’s connection, capacity, encryption needs, and durability requirements.
Could AI demand still affect SSD prices or stock?
It could affect broader NAND supply and demand, but that possibility does not establish that Samsung is leaving consumer SSDs or predict a particular retail price. The sources cited here do not establish a future consumer-drive price increase, a shortage, or uniform availability across regions. Check current listings for your location and the exact model before buying; prices and stock can change.
