The Samsung HW-QS90H is a premium all-in-one soundbar for people who want an expansive film and TV soundstage without adding a separate subwoofer or rear speakers. Expert Reviews’ September 2026 test found its Dolby Atmos presentation immersive and its Convertible Fit placement feature effective. The trade-offs are less convincing gaming performance, no front display and HDMI passthrough limited to 4K/60Hz.
What the Samsung QS90H is
The HW-QS90H is Samsung’s 2026 7.1.2-channel Q-Series soundbar. Samsung specifies 13 speakers: four built-in woofers and nine wide-range drivers. Front-, side-, wide- and up-firing drivers are packed into a single bar, so it aims to create a broad, spatial presentation without discrete rear speakers or an external subwoofer. Samsung’s Canadian product page lists its specifications and features; regional models and availability may differ.
That compact arrangement is the product’s central compromise. It reduces equipment and setup clutter, but it cannot place sound behind the listener in the same way as dedicated rear speakers, nor does it offer a separate subwoofer. Buyers who value those components more than a single-unit installation should compare full systems as well.
How Convertible Fit works
Convertible Fit lets the bar sit flat on furniture or rotate for wall mounting. A built-in gyro sensor detects the orientation and changes the speaker roles to suit the position. Samsung says it optimizes sound for either setup; Expert Reviews found the feature worked as intended in its test. It does not eliminate the effects of room acoustics, placement or wall construction.

Before choosing a position, check the available tabletop space or wall-mounting arrangement and the soundbar’s clearance around the television. Convertible Fit adapts the driver configuration, but the physical room still shapes what you hear.
How good is the sound?
Films and TV
Expert Reviews found the QS90H strongest with films and television. Atmos material produced a broad, engaging presentation, and the review concluded that the bar could deliver convincing surround effects without separate rear speakers. The result remains an all-in-one system rather than a substitute for discrete rear-channel hardware.

Standard, Surround and AI Adaptive modes give listeners different presentations. The Samsung app also provides EQ and channel adjustments. In the review, dialogue could sound detached from the action in busy scenes with AI Adaptive enabled; adjusting the centre channel or using Voice Enhancement helped in that test. These observations may not carry over identically to every room or listener.
Music
The review found music less compelling than the soundbar’s movie presentation. If musical refinement is your main priority, audition it if possible and compare dedicated stereo or component systems before buying.

Gaming
Game Pro mode was less successful in Expert Reviews’ test: the reviewer found it less useful for locating opponents and somewhat bright or harsh compared with other modes. The connection limit may be decisive for some setups: the review reports HDMI passthrough up to 4K/60Hz, and RTINGS also notes the 60Hz limit. A 4K/120Hz console or PC signal cannot pass through the bar at its full refresh rate.
Connections, controls and compatibility
Expert Reviews reports one HDMI input with 4K/60Hz passthrough, one HDMI eARC port, an optical input, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Chromecast and AirPlay 2. It also reports control by the included remote and Samsung Sound/SmartThings app. What Hi-Fi? lists Bluetooth 5.3 and the same central physical HDMI connections. Check the specification for the exact regional model before purchase.

Samsung lists Wireless Dolby Atmos, Q-Symphony and Eclipsa Audio. Wireless Dolby Atmos transmission over Wi-Fi requires Dolby Atmos source content and, according to Samsung’s Canadian page, a compatible Samsung TV from 2022–2026. Q-Symphony is limited to listed Samsung TV generations and models, while some AI features require compatible TV hardware. Samsung cautions that availability and features can vary by region, service provider, language and device, so these are not universal television features.

Price and alternatives
Expert Reviews listed the QS90H at £799 in its UK review published on 24 September 2026. Its comparison prices at that date were £1,399 for Samsung’s HW-Q990H, £939 for the Sonos Arc Ultra, and £999 each for the Sony Bravia Theatre Bar 9 and Bose Ultra Lifestyle Soundbar. These are dated review-page figures, not guaranteed current prices or prices for every region. Check local availability and pricing before deciding.
The more useful comparison is what each system gives up or adds:
- Footprint: the QS90H integrates its speakers and woofers into one bar; a system with a dedicated subwoofer and rear speakers takes more space and adds components.
- Bass and surround: the QS90H relies on built-in woofers and its driver arrangement. Dedicated bass and rear-channel hardware can provide a different experience for buyers seeking deeper bass or effects from behind.
- Gaming: its 4K/60Hz passthrough is a constraint if you need 4K/120Hz through the soundbar.
- Expansion: RTINGS says two wireless satellite speakers can be added, but describes the expansion options as more limited than those of some alternatives; this path does not add a separate subwoofer. Confirm the exact compatible satellite model for your region.
- Placement and ecosystem: compare the room, tabletop clearance or wall-mount plan, and whether your television supports the Samsung-specific features you intend to use.
Who should buy the Samsung HW-QS90H?
The QS90H is a good fit if you want one relatively uncluttered bar, flexible tabletop or wall placement, and cinematic TV and film sound. Its tested Atmos presentation and Convertible Fit are the strongest reasons to consider it.
