The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra has larger listed displays, a 200 MP main camera, and a 5,000 mAh typical battery; the China-market Xiaomi 18 Fold has a smaller 7.58-inch inner screen, a 6,000 mAh battery, and a three-camera rear setup with a 3.5× periscope telephoto. There is no reliable single price difference to quote: the available figures are from different countries, currencies, dates, and configurations. These are launch specifications and regional price snapshots, not results from independent testing.

Samsung’s specifications come from its August 2026 launch materials and US product page. Xiaomi’s specifications are from Xiaomi Community materials and launch reports; they are not a substitute for a global Xiaomi specification page. Blank cells are intentional: the cited material does not establish a corresponding figure for both phones.

How the displays and designs differ

Samsung: more screen area on paper

Samsung lists a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8.0-inch main display for the Fold8 Ultra. Those diagonal measurements make it the larger-screen option on the specifications provided. Samsung’s launch materials also cite a 4:3 main-screen format for the separate Galaxy Z Fold8, but that is not evidence of the Ultra’s aspect ratio. Do not assume the two models share it.

Xiaomi: a shorter-diagonal inner display with a stated ratio

Xiaomi describes a 5.38-inch outer screen and a 7.58-inch inner screen, with the inner display in a 2:1 format. Cinco Días reports an inner-screen resolution of 2364 × 1672 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Xiaomi Community says both screens can reach a peak brightness of 4,000 nits under a 30% average-picture-level condition; that qualified peak is not a claim about brightness across the entire display or in every use condition.

For reading, apps, and split-screen work, diagonal size alone does not tell you how much usable content fits: aspect ratio, software behavior, and app support matter too. Xiaomi’s stated ratio offers one point of comparison, but the available Samsung figure for the 4:3 format belongs to another model. There is not enough comparable information here to declare one layout better for multitasking or one-handed use.

Camera hardware: Xiaomi lists an extra telephoto camera

Samsung specifies a 200 MP main camera with HDR support at 200 MP and a 50 MP ultra-wide camera. The supplied specifications do not list a periscope telephoto camera for the Fold8 Ultra. Xiaomi’s reported setup has three rear cameras: a Leica-branded 200 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide, and a 50 MP 3.5× periscope telephoto.

That makes Xiaomi’s telephoto hardware the more explicitly specified option for optical reach on paper. Megapixel counts and lens configuration do not establish which phone takes better photos: no independent comparative camera test is available here. Leica branding likewise describes the camera partnership or branding, not a proven image-quality result.

Battery capacity and charging

Xiaomi’s listed 6,000 mAh battery is larger by stated capacity than Samsung’s 5,000 mAh typical capacity. Samsung gives the Fold8 Ultra’s rated capacity as 4,854 mAh; typical and rated figures are different measures, so they should not be treated as interchangeable. Xiaomi launch coverage reports 67 W wired and 50 W wireless charging, while Samsung lists 45 W wired charging.

Capacity and charging wattage do not establish how long a phone lasts or how quickly it charges in normal use. No independent battery-life or charging test comparing these models was identified, so the specifications alone cannot determine the endurance winner.

Performance, memory, durability, and S Pen support

Samsung US names the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy; Xiaomi launch materials identify the XRING O3. No comparable independent benchmark result is available, so these processor names do not support a measured performance ranking.

Xiaomi’s reported configurations range from 12 GB RAM with 256 GB storage to 16 GB RAM with 1 TB storage. Samsung’s Japan price listing covers 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB storage tiers; the cited listing does not establish RAM configurations. Samsung US lists IP48 resistance and says the Fold8 Ultra does not support the S Pen. Samsung also describes an Armor Aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Ceramic 3 on the front, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, and titanium layers beneath the display. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent durability-test results.

Price difference: the available figures are not a like-for-like comparison

The reported prices below are regional snapshots, not a direct conversion or definitive global price comparison. The Samsung amounts are Japanese yen (JPY) from Samsung Japan’s July 22, 2026 unlocked online-shop listing. Xiaomi’s amounts are Chinese yuan (CNY) from IT Home’s September 7, 2026 launch report; Cinco Días also reports the China launch and configurations.

Market and source date Configuration Listed price
Japan — Samsung Japan, July 22, 2026 256 GB ¥296,780 JPY
Japan — Samsung Japan, July 22, 2026 512 GB ¥326,780 JPY
Japan — Samsung Japan, July 22, 2026 1 TB ¥386,780 JPY
Market and source date Configuration Listed price
China — IT Home launch report, September 7, 2026 12 GB RAM / 256 GB ¥10,999 CNY
China — IT Home launch report, September 7, 2026 12 GB RAM / 512 GB ¥11,999 CNY
China — IT Home launch report, September 7, 2026 16 GB RAM / 512 GB ¥12,999 CNY
China — IT Home launch report, September 7, 2026 16 GB RAM / 1 TB ¥14,999 CNY
China — IT Home launch report, September 7, 2026 Limited ceramic edition, 16 GB RAM / 1 TB ¥15,999 CNY

The yen and yuan amounts refer to different currencies and retail markets, and the snapshots are separated by more than a month. Subtracting them or converting them at an unspecified exchange rate would not show what a buyer pays for one phone versus the other. A fair comparison needs current prices in the same market, comparable storage, tax treatment, and the same date. Samsung Japan says other retailers may charge different prices.

Availability and what to check before buying

Samsung announced sales beginning August 7, 2026, with availability expanding across 106 markets; colors, models, connectivity, and availability vary by market. Xiaomi’s reported China launch was September 7, with first sales on September 10, 2026. The cited material does not establish Xiaomi’s global retail availability, local warranty, supported bands, or local price.

  • If buying a Xiaomi import: confirm the exact China-market model, network-band compatibility where you live, software and regional service details, warranty coverage, return terms, and who handles after-sales support before ordering.
  • If buying either phone locally: check the exact storage tier, connectivity variant, included warranty, and current price for your country rather than relying on another region’s launch listing.
  • For Samsung accessories: Samsung identifies magnetic cases and compatible wireless chargers as options; verify compatibility for the specific accessory and phone model.

Samsung reported that pre-orders for its new Galaxy Z series were “more than 30%” higher than for the previous generation. That is Samsung’s own comparison, not an independent measure of the foldable-phone market or evidence about demand for either of these specific models.
