The Galaxy Z Fold7 is the pick for a much larger screen when opened; the Galaxy Z Flip8 folds into a more compact clamshell. They are not same-year alternatives: Samsung introduced the Fold7 in 2025, while the Flip8 is part of its 2026 lineup. The price references also come from different sources and dates, so the apparent $800 gap is not a like-for-like checkout comparison.

Samsung’s U.S. Fold7 comparison supplies the Fold7 display, camera and battery figures. Flip8 display and battery figures are from Samsung’s Canada Series 8 comparison; camera details vary by the Samsung page cited, so the table identifies the source market.
Which foldable suits your use?
Choose the Fold7 for a larger open screen
Its 8-inch inner display is the largest documented screen in this comparison, with a 6.5-inch outer display available while folded. The book-style design is better suited if your priority is opening a phone into a broad viewing or multitasking canvas. That is a form-factor inference from Samsung’s listed screen sizes, not a hands-on performance finding.

Choose the Flip8 for a compact folded form
The Flip8 folds in half like a clamshell and opens to a 6.9-inch main screen. Its smaller 4.1-inch cover display is suited to quick interactions when closed, while its practical distinction is the compact folded shape. Samsung’s Flip-versus-Fold guide describes the two form factors; exact carry comfort is personal and is not established by screen specifications alone.

Camera and battery: what the specifications do—and don’t—show
Samsung lists three Fold7 rear cameras: a 200 MP wide camera, a 12 MP ultrawide camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera. Its U.S. Flip8 page promotes a 50 MP camera, while the Canadian comparison specifies 50 MP wide and 12 MP ultrawide. These specifications do not establish which phone takes better photos: megapixel counts are not a substitute for comparable image-quality testing.
Samsung lists 4,400 mAh for the Fold7 and 4,300 mAh for the Flip8 in its Canadian comparison. Capacity alone cannot predict how long either phone lasts; usage, settings and test conditions matter, and no comparable battery-life result is established here.

- A premium foldable smartphone featuring an 8.0" Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display, 6.5" cover display, 200MP main camera, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor, up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage, 4,400mAh battery, and a slim 215g design.
Price difference in the United States
Samsung’s U.S. MSRP sheet effective March 2026 lists the unlocked Fold7 at $1,999.99 for 256GB, $2,119.99 for 512GB and $2,419.99 for 1TB. Samsung says those prices may change without notice. Its current U.S. Flip8 product page lists a starting price of $1,199.99 before trade-in, accessed October 4, 2026.
Subtracting the Flip8 starting price from the Fold7 256GB MSRP gives an apparent $800 difference. It is not a guaranteed current retail-price gap: the Fold7 figure is from a dated MSRP sheet, while the Flip8 figure is a current starting price and the storage configuration behind it is not established. Promotions, carrier terms, storage and retailer stock can change the amount due. Compare live prices for the same market, storage capacity, carrier status and offer basis before deciding.

Why these are cross-generation alternatives
Samsung’s U.S. newsroom said Fold7 availability began July 25, 2025. Samsung’s Canada Series 8 comparison identifies Flip8 as part of the 2026 lineup and gives July 22, 2026 as the series announcement date. The generation difference matters when weighing an older book-style model against a newer clamshell; it does not by itself establish a performance or value winner.
