Yes—the Galaxy Z Fold7 has larger screens than the Galaxy Z Fold6. Samsung’s 2025 model expands the inner display from 7.6 to 8.0 inches and the cover display from 6.3 to 6.5 inches. The Fold7 launched in the United States on July 25, 2025, following July 9 preorders, so the change is now a shipping-product fact rather than a rumor.

How much bigger are the Galaxy Z Fold7 screens?

The inner panel gains 0.4 inch diagonally, while the outer panel gains 0.2 inch. Those increases sound modest, but they affect two different jobs: the unfolded screen provides more room for multitasking and media, while the cover screen is intended for everyday phone tasks.

Display Galaxy Z Fold7 Galaxy Z Fold6 Change
Inner screen 8.0-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 2184 × 1968; 368 ppi; adaptive 1–120Hz 7.6 inches +0.4 inch
Cover screen 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X; 2520 × 1080; 422 ppi; adaptive 1–120Hz 6.3 inches +0.2 inch
Cover-screen shape 21:9-style, more conventional phone proportions Not stated in the cited Samsung comparison Fold7 is designed to feel more like a regular phone when closed

The Fold7’s larger cover panel is especially relevant if you often reply to messages, browse, navigate or use apps without opening the phone. The 8.0-inch inner display gives split-screen apps, documents and video more physical space, although the benefit depends on whether an app supports foldable layouts.

What are the Fold7 display specifications?

8.0-inch inner display

  • QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X
  • Resolution: 2184 × 1968
  • Pixel density: 368 ppi
  • Adaptive refresh rate: 1–120Hz

The near-square inner panel is optimized for a tablet-like workspace rather than a conventional widescreen phone. A high refresh rate can make scrolling and supported animations look smoother, while the adaptive range allows the panel to lower its refresh rate when appropriate.

6.5-inch cover display

  • FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X
  • Resolution: 2520 × 1080
  • Pixel density: 422 ppi
  • Adaptive refresh rate: 1–120Hz

At 6.5 inches and 21:9-style proportions, the cover screen is closer to the shape people expect from a standard smartphone. It remains narrower than the unfolded display, but the extra 0.2 inch gives text, keyboards and controls more room than on the Fold6’s 6.3-inch cover panel.

Does the larger display make multitasking easier?

It can. The additional inner-screen area gives two apps more breathing room side by side and leaves more usable space for a keyboard, document, spreadsheet or video timeline. Samsung positions the expanded panel for multitasking, content viewing, productivity and Galaxy AI features.

Where the extra space helps most

  • Split-screen work: chat and a browser or notes and a document are less cramped.
  • Reading and documents: more width can reduce frequent zooming and panning.
  • Video and games: larger on-screen controls and viewing area are possible, subject to each app’s layout.
  • AI and productivity tools: results, source apps and controls have more room when used together.

The larger panel is not a guarantee that every app will use the space well. Apps with fixed phone layouts may leave unused areas or simply scale their existing interface.

What is the portability trade-off?

The Fold7 remains a substantial folded device, but Samsung’s published dimensions and weight put the display increase in context.

Weight 215 g Not stated in the cited comparison

At 8.9 mm folded and 215 g, it is still thicker and heavier than a typical slab phone. The cover screen’s more familiar proportions may make closed-phone use easier, but the larger inner display does not remove the need to carry a folding device.

Should you buy the Galaxy Z Fold7 for its bigger display?

It makes sense if you regularly use the inner screen

  • You read, edit documents or manage email on the go.
  • You use split-screen apps or tablet-style interfaces.
  • You want a larger canvas for video, games or AI-assisted tasks.
  • You find the Fold6 cover screen too cramped for daily typing or browsing.

The upgrade is less compelling if portability is your priority

  • You spend most of your time on the closed phone.
  • You prefer a light, thin conventional handset.
  • Your main apps do not adapt to foldable screen layouts.
  • You already find the Fold6’s 7.6-inch inner screen and 6.3-inch cover screen sufficient.

What Samsung says about the Fold7 experience

In Samsung’s July 9, 2025 announcement, TM Roh, President and Acting Head of Samsung Electronics’ Device eXperience (DX) Division, said: “The Galaxy Z Fold7 combines Galaxy AI with powerful hardware to deliver our most advanced smartphone experience yet.” The larger panels are one part of that broader hardware and software design, not a standalone guarantee of faster performance or better app support.

The Bottom Line

The Galaxy Z Fold7 is larger in both places that matter: an 8.0-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display, versus 7.6 and 6.3 inches on the Fold6. Choose it for the extra workspace and more usable closed-screen proportions; choose another phone if minimizing thickness, weight or cost matters more than foldable screen area.
