The Galaxy Z Fold6 still makes a strong case if you want a foldable phone with a large inner display and S Pen support. But Samsung’s newer Galaxy Z Fold7 is substantially thinner and lighter, has larger screens and a higher-resolution main camera. Which one deserves your money depends on your priorities—and the prices available in your region.

Galaxy Z Fold6 vs. Fold7: what changed?

Samsung’s published specifications show meaningful hardware differences between the two generations. The Fold6 has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 6.3-inch cover display; Samsung notes that the cover display measures 6.2 inches when rounded corners are accounted for. The Fold7 increases those diagonal measurements to 8.0 inches inside and 6.5 inches outside.

Specification Galaxy Z Fold6 Galaxy Z Fold7
Folded thickness 12.1 mm 8.9 mm
Weight 239 g 215 g
Inner display 7.6 inches 8.0 inches
Cover display 6.3 inches diagonally; 6.2 inches accounting for rounded corners 6.5 inches
Main camera 50 MP 200 MP
Estimated video playback Up to 23 hours Up to 24 hours

Figures are from Samsung’s Fold6 and Fold7 comparison. The video figures are manufacturer estimates, not independent comparative test results. Samsung says its estimate used a 720p video file saved on the device under internal test conditions; actual battery life varies with network, settings, use, battery condition and other factors.

What the Fold6 still offers

A large screen with S Pen support

The Fold6 pairs its 7.6-inch main screen with support for S Pen input and Samsung DeX. That makes it a reasonable choice for people who want to write, annotate or work across a larger display and value stylus compatibility. Samsung’s comparison lists the Fold7’s screen and body improvements, but the available specifications do not establish it as an equivalent choice for someone who specifically wants S Pen support.

Core hardware and protection

Samsung lists the Fold6 with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, a 4,400 mAh battery and an IP48 rating. Its UK support guide, updated 23 July 2026, says the Fold6 introduced IP48 water resistance to the Fold line and notes that models may vary by country. IP48 should not be read as a guarantee against damage in every water or dust exposure.

For the camera system, Samsung’s Philippines specifications list a 50 MP main camera, a 10 MP telephoto camera and a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The Fold7’s 200 MP main-camera specification is a notable difference on paper, but megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos in real-world conditions.

How long will the Fold6 receive software support?

Samsung’s environmental report commits to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates, counted from the Fold6’s global launch date. That is a stated support commitment; it does not mean every regional or carrier software rollout will arrive at the same time. Samsung’s environmental reports provide the company’s official support statement.

Who should choose the Fold6?

Choose the Fold6 if S Pen input matters most

If handwriting, annotation or stylus-based work is central to how you use a foldable, the Fold6’s S Pen support may outweigh its thicker, heavier design. Confirm that the exact regional model and accessory you plan to buy are compatible before purchase.

Consider the Fold7 if portability and screen size lead

The Fold7 is 24 g lighter and 3.2 mm thinner when folded, according to Samsung’s comparison. It also has larger inner and cover displays and a 200 MP main camera. Those are substantial specification-level changes for anyone who prioritizes a slimmer device, more display area or a higher-resolution main camera.

Check local prices before deciding

The available manufacturer specifications do not establish current transaction prices, stock, warranty terms or value for money in your country. Samsung’s Philippines Fold6 page includes launch prices from 2024, but those are not current-price guidance. Compare the exact storage and regional versions available to you, along with local warranty coverage, before choosing between generations.

Samsung’s published figures show the Fold6 at 239 g and the Fold7 at 215 g. In a 2026 Newsroom article, Samsung also noted that the Fold5 weighed 253 g, placing the Fold6 between its predecessor and successor by weight. These are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent measurements. Samsung’s UK Newsroom article provides the weight history.

What this review can—and cannot—establish

Samsung’s product information supports a clear specification comparison, but it does not establish hands-on performance, long-term hinge or inner-display reliability, or which camera produces better images in practice. No independent comparative battery test is available here either. Treat the hardware differences as useful selection criteria, not proof that one phone is universally superior.
