The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is a compelling phone if you want a small tablet that folds into a pocketable device. Its large, high-refresh inner screen makes reading, editing documents and multitasking more comfortable than on a conventional phone. The trade-off is a heavier, thicker handset with a flexible screen and hinge to care for. It is best for people who will regularly use the larger display—not simply for anyone seeking Samsung’s most conventional flagship experience.

What you get with the Galaxy Z Fold4

Samsung’s Fold4 pairs a 7.6-inch inner display with a 6.2-inch cover display. Both support adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, so the phone can serve as a compact handset when folded and a tablet-like workspace when open. Samsung highlights Flex Mode for hands-free use and Multi-Active Windows for running apps side by side.

Inside, the phone uses a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and 12GB of RAM. Samsung offered 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage configurations. That is a strong foundation for everyday apps and multitasking, though the central appeal is the display format rather than a unique software or processor capability.

Does the large screen make it worth choosing?

Productivity, reading and video

The inner screen is the reason to buy the Fold4. It gives documents, web pages and ebooks more room, and makes split-screen work more practical than on a standard phone. Flex Mode can also prop the phone open for hands-free video calls or viewing. If you often switch between a phone and a small tablet, this design can make one device serve both roles.

The cover screen remains useful for quick tasks without unfolding the phone, but it is narrower than a typical smartphone display. The Fold4 therefore asks you to adapt to two different screen experiences rather than offering one conventional phone screen that simply happens to be large.

Weight and pocket comfort

At 263g and as much as 15.8mm thick when folded, the Fold4 is heavier and bulkier than a typical flagship phone. That affects pocket comfort and makes one-handed use less convenient. Whether the compromise pays off depends on how frequently you use the inner display: the tablet-like workspace is valuable only if it becomes part of your regular routine.

How good are the Fold4 cameras?

The rear camera system includes a 50MP wide camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and OIS. For selfies and video calls, there is a 10MP camera on the cover display and a 4MP under-display camera on the inner screen.

This hardware is closer to a conventional flagship setup than earlier Fold generations, particularly with a stabilized main camera and a dedicated 3x telephoto lens. The specifications alone do not establish that its photos outperform every regular flagship, however. Choose the Fold4 for the combination of cameras and folding screen, not on the assumption that it is automatically the best camera phone.

How long does the battery last?

The battery is rated at 4,400mAh. Samsung lists Super Fast Charging, wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare. Capacity and charging features do not translate into a fixed daily runtime: endurance varies with which display you use, screen brightness, cellular conditions, apps, camera use and gaming load. Heavy use of the large display can make a different demand of the battery than quick tasks on the cover screen, so no single screen-on-time figure applies to every owner.

How durable is the Fold4?

The Fold4 weighs 263g, uses Gorilla Glass Victus+ and an Armor Aluminum frame, and carries an IPX8 water-resistance rating. IPX8 indicates water resistance under specified conditions; the “X” does not establish dust resistance. Water resistance and protective glass also do not remove the added mechanical complexity of a hinge and flexible inner panel.

Samsung’s product-page review summaries include customer reports of screens cracking, peeling or malfunctioning, along with concerns about battery life and overheating. These are owner reports, not a measured failure rate, so they should not be treated as a prediction of how often a Fold4 will fail. They do underline that the Fold4 is a more complex device to own than a conventional slab phone.

If you add a case or screen protector, check that it is explicitly compatible with the Galaxy Z Fold4 and does not interfere with the hinge or folding screen. A third-party accessory’s fit and protection depend on its maker; it does not change the phone’s IP rating or eliminate screen and hinge risks.

Does the Fold4 come with an S Pen?

The Fold4 supports the S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro, but the phone’s specifications do not establish that a pen is included in every retail box. Treat it as a separate purchase unless the specific retailer bundle says otherwise. If handwriting, sketching or marking up documents is central to your workflow, include the compatible pen in your total cost and verify the exact bundle before buying.

Should you buy the Fold4 or a regular flagship phone?

What matters most Galaxy Z Fold4 Conventional flagship
Multitasking and reading 7.6-inch inner display supports a more spacious, tablet-like experience. Does not offer the Fold4’s unfolding inner display.
Portability 263g and up to 15.8mm thick when folded. Generally the simpler choice for pocketability and one-handed use.
Camera 50MP wide with OIS, 12MP ultrawide and 10MP 3x telephoto with OIS. Compare specific phone models; these Fold4 specifications do not establish a universal camera winner.
Battery 4,400mAh; actual endurance depends on display use, network and workload. Compare specific models and usage; there is no universal runtime advantage established here.
Durability and ownership IPX8 water resistance, but no established dust rating; hinge and flexible screen add complexity. Often preferable if simplicity and avoiding a folding mechanism matter most.
Stylus workflow Compatible with S Pen Fold Edition and S Pen Pro; check whether a bundle includes one. Stylus support depends on the particular phone.

Choose the Fold4 if you will use its inner display for multitasking, reading, document work or video often enough to justify the added bulk and folding hardware. A conventional flagship is the more natural fit if you prioritize pocketability, dust protection or simpler long-term ownership. Compare the exact handset and accessory bundle you plan to buy; the Fold4’s value depends on its role in your routine, not just its specifications.
