For better Galaxy Z Fold battery life, start by checking which apps use power, then consider Standard refresh rate, a shorter screen timeout, and selective limits on background apps. To get more from the inner screen, set up Multi view, split-screen or pop-up windows, and cover-screen continuity where your model supports them. These are reversible choices, not guaranteed extra hours: Samsung’s support guidance describes their effects but does not quantify battery savings. Menus and feature availability vary by Fold generation and software version.
Which Galaxy Z Fold settings should you change first for battery life?
Make targeted changes rather than restricting every app or display feature. Samsung recommends reviewing battery use so you can identify activity that may be draining power before applying limits. On software versions with this menu, go to Settings → Battery → View details. The exact path can vary; search Settings for “Battery” if you do not see it.
Choose a refresh rate that matches your priority
Go to Settings → Display → Motion smoothness, if available. Standard uses 60 Hz and is Samsung’s battery-conserving option. Adaptive adjusts the refresh rate up to 120 Hz, using higher rates when needed and lower rates in less demanding situations. It is a sensible balance if you value smoother scrolling, but it is not a guaranteed battery improvement over Standard. Some models may offer a high-refresh option that locks the display at 120 Hz and uses more power. Power saving may force Standard.

Reduce avoidable screen-on time
Set Settings → Display → Screen timeout to a duration that gives you time to read without leaving the display on unnecessarily. Samsung cites a 30-second default and a 10-minute maximum for devices covered by one support page; those values may not match every Z Fold or One UI version. A shorter timeout is most useful when you often set the phone down while its screen is still on.
Brightness is another factor in battery use. Adaptive brightness adjusts the display using detected ambient light; it is designed to keep brightness comfortable while saving power. It is not a guaranteed battery hack, and turning it off does not always reduce consumption. If brightness changes are inconvenient, disable it and adjust brightness manually. Samsung’s guidance covers battery-use settings and brightness and timeout controls.

Put only suitable apps to sleep
Search Settings for Background usage limits or Sleeping apps; the path and labels vary. Sleeping apps can still run when you open them. Deep sleeping apps do not run in the background and work only when opened. That can reduce background activity, but it can also delay or prevent notifications, syncing, location updates, or other background functions.

Use Power saving when its restrictions make sense
Power saving is useful when you need to conserve charge and can accept its effects. Samsung says it can reduce performance and limit background activity; the effects depend on the selected options. Treat it as a situational setting rather than assuming it is the best everyday configuration. On some devices it also changes refresh-rate behavior.
How do you make better use of the Galaxy Z Fold’s inner screen?
The inner display is most useful when apps make good use of the available space or when you have a reason to work with more than one app at once. Compatibility is not universal: supported apps, layout controls, and maximum simultaneous windows vary by model and software.

Try Multi view for a two-column layout
On supported models, open Settings → Display → Screen layout and zoom and choose Multi view. This can present supported apps in a two-column layout; Samsung gives Settings and Samsung Messages as examples. The available app list varies, so check the setting on your own Fold rather than assuming every app will adapt.
Use split-screen, pop-up view, or app pairs for repeat tasks
Multi window lets you use apps in split-screen or pop-up view. A browser beside notes, or email beside a calendar, can make the larger screen more productive when you need both apps. Samsung documents launching apps from the tray and creating app pairs, but exact controls and the number of windows supported vary by model. More multitasking can also mean more active screen time; Samsung’s feature guidance does not establish that these layouts save battery.

Set full-screen behavior and cover-screen continuity per app
For compatible apps, go to Settings → Display → Full screen apps, choose an app, then select Full screen. App support differs, and a full-screen layout does not guarantee that an app will preserve its exact state when you fold or unfold the phone.
To choose which supported apps can continue on the cover display, go to Settings → Display → Continue apps on cover screen and select the apps you want. Samsung limits App Continuity to select apps. Its guidance on Flex mode, Multi view, and Multi window, using the phone open or closed, and Z Fold7 screens describes these features and their compatibility limits.
Enable the Flex mode panel when you want hands-free controls
On supported models, go to Settings → Advanced features → Flex mode panel to enable the panel and choose apps. When the phone is partly folded, supported apps may show controls or content in a layout suited to that position. Which apps trigger the panel and which controls appear depend on the device and app.

Use Labs only if you are comfortable with experimental behavior
Settings → Advanced features → Labs may offer options such as Multi window for all apps or landscape view for portrait apps. These options can expand layout choices, but Samsung warns that Labs features may not work as expected, may be unavailable on some foldables, and may not work with every app. Treat them as experiments, not dependable fixes for incompatible apps. Menu labels and paths can change across Fold generations, One UI releases, and regional builds. If a listed path is missing, search Settings for the feature name. None of the cited Samsung support pages gives a setting-specific estimate in minutes, hours, or percentage points, so actual battery results will depend on your phone, apps, and use.
