The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition are not direct rivals. The Fold8 is a foldable with a 7.6-inch inner screen and a premium price. The realme is a conventional phone with a 7,000mAh battery, 80W charging and Harry Potter styling, listed in India at ₹62,999. The Fold8’s 256GB launch price in India is ₹179,999, roughly 2.9 times the realme’s listed price. Choose on how you plan to use the phone, not on a single headline spec. On the official figures, neither phone wins on every measure, and no independent head-to-head test of the two exists yet.

The gap between the two phones is ₹117,000 at the Fold8’s base configuration: ₹179,999 minus ₹62,999. That subtraction is our own arithmetic, not a published figure, and it compares two different kinds of price.

- Samsung’s figure is a launch price. It comes from Samsung Newsroom India, dated 22 July 2026, when India preorders opened.
- realme’s figure is a displayed store price. It comes from realme Store India’s listing, accessed in 2026. Store prices can change, and a displayed price is not the same as a launch price.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 India launch prices
| Configuration (India) | Launch price | Gap to realme’s ₹62,999 (our calculation) |
|---|---|---|
| 12GB/256GB | ₹179,999 | ₹117,000 |
| 12GB/512GB | ₹199,999 | ₹137,000 |
| 16GB/1TB | ₹239,999 | ₹177,000 |
The gap widens with storage. The realme listing covers only the Harry Potter Edition at ₹62,999 and does not show alternative storage tiers in the official listing reviewed, so the table compares the Fold8’s configurations against that single figure. Samsung’s release also described launch offers and Samsung Care+ protection for the India launch. Those were launch-period terms, not guaranteed current terms, so check them at purchase.
A third-party comparison page shows a different Samsung price from the one in Samsung’s newsroom table. Treat Samsung’s official India table as the reference and ignore the third-party figure.
Form factor and display: two different ways to use a phone
The Fold8 is built around a change of shape. It works as a compact cover-screen phone when closed and opens to a larger main screen when you need it. Samsung describes that transition as moving from quick interactions on the cover to viewing, reading and gaming on the larger display. Samsung’s newsroom describes the main display this way: “When unfolded, the 4:3 main display provides a larger viewing area for games and films while reducing unused screen space for 16:9 content.”

The realme is a single-panel phone, so its 144Hz AMOLED display is a smoothness and fluidity specification rather than a size one. Its screen size and brightness are not stated in the official product page reviewed.
If you mainly want a bigger page or video canvas, the Fold8’s format is the point. If you want a phone that behaves like a conventional handset, the realme’s format is the simpler fit. Neither display can be called better without knowing which use case matters to you.
Battery and charging
The realme has the larger battery capacity: 7,000mAh against the Fold8’s 4,800mAh typical. Capacity is not runtime, though. Samsung’s own estimate of up to 26 hours of continuous video playback is an internal lab result, measured with a prerelease device connected to Bluetooth earphones over LTE, playing a locally stored 720p video with default settings. Samsung notes that real playback varies with network, settings, file format, brightness and battery condition. realme’s battery figure is a capacity specification; the official material reviewed does not give a comparable runtime figure.

Charging is the one battery-related spec where only one side is stated. realme lists 80W charging. Samsung’s official material reviewed does not state the Fold8’s charging speed, so the two cannot be compared on that point.
Cameras
The Fold8 has dual 50MP rear cameras, wide and ultra-wide, according to Samsung’s India launch release. The realme lists a 200MP main camera, a 112° wide camera and a 50MP selfie camera.
A higher megapixel count does not establish better photos. Sensor size, processing, lens quality and lighting all shape results, and the official specifications reviewed do not include matched side-by-side image tests. Neither phone can be declared the camera winner on these numbers alone.

Performance
The Fold8 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. The realme uses MediaTek’s Dimensity 7300-Max 5G. Qualcomm’s 8-series is its premium tier, while MediaTek has positioned the Dimensity 7300 series as a mid-range chip. That tells you where each chip sits in its maker’s lineup. It does not show how fast either phone is in daily use, and no independent benchmark comparing these two devices is available.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The Harry Potter Edition: what the licensed design includes
The realme’s distinguishing feature is its design and packaging rather than its hardware. According to realme’s official India product page, the edition includes:
- A Hogwarts Four-House crest
- Harry Potter-inspired software elements, including themed animations and icons
- A Hedwig-inspired camera decoration
- A limited-edition gift box
The gift box is part of the edition’s appeal, but contents may differ between ssellers, so confirm what your seller includes. The hardware is described by realme as the same class of phone as the standard 16 Pro, but the official material reviewed does not spell out a line-by-line match with the regular model.

realme’s product page also warns about the back finish. Its wording is: “The color-changing effect may gradually wear off over time with daily use, which is a normal characteristic of the material and does not indicate a product defect.”
Durability and warranty
The realme page says water resistance can lose effectiveness over time, and that liquid damage is not covered by warranty. Samsung’s official material does not give a durability comparison. Long-term durability, software support length and warranty terms for either phone in India are not established by the official material reviewed. Check each manufacturer’s support page and your seller’s terms.
Which phone fits your priorities
- Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if you want one device that works as a compact phone and a larger reading, video or gaming screen, and a price near ₹180,000 or above is within your budget. Confirm that the foldable shape suits your pocket and daily carry.
- Choose the realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition if you want a conventional phone with the larger battery capacity and 80W charging, the Harry Potter styling and packaging matter to you, and a price around ₹63,000 fits your budget.
- Do not decide on camera, performance or real-world battery life alone. The official figures do not establish a winner in those areas, and no independent test of these two exact devices is available.
Before you buy
- Compare prices in the same market and on the same date. The Samsung figures are India launch prices from July 2026, and the realme figure is a displayed store price.
- Compare the same storage configuration. The Fold8 is offered at three India tiers, and realme’s listing reviewed does not show alternatives.
- Confirm the warranty, network bands, software support period and return policy with the seller or the manufacturer.
- Check the live price at checkout. A realme community launch post gave 21 September 2026 as the sale date, so confirm current availability on realme’s own store.
- Amazon listings, prices, sellers and stock were not verified for this comparison. Check them directly before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the realme Harry Potter Edition have the same specs as the regular realme 16 Pro?
The official edition page lists its own hardware, including the 144Hz AMOLED display, MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Max 5G chip, 7,000mAh battery, 80W charging, 200MP main camera and 50MP selfie camera.
