The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 is no longer a rumor: Samsung announced it in July 2026, with sales beginning August 7 in select markets and rollout expanding worldwide afterward. The phone is a measured update rather than a clean-sheet redesign. Its clearest changes are a lighter, slimmer body, a new processor, and software features built around the cover screen.

When did the Galaxy Z Flip8 come out?

Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Flip8 in July 2026 and began sales in select markets on August 7, with broader worldwide availability following. Exact availability and color choices vary by region. Samsung’s U.K. rollout announcement gives the launch timing; check Samsung in your market for current stock and local pricing.

What changed from the Z Flip7?

A lighter, thinner foldable design

Samsung lists the Z Flip8 at 180 g and 6.1 mm thick when unfolded, and says it is 8 g lighter than the Z Flip7. The company also describes a smoother Armor FlexHinge and a redesigned inner bezel intended to make opening easier. These are Samsung’s product claims, not independent durability or hinge testing. Samsung’s U.S. product page lists the dimensions and design details.

Samsung describes the construction this way: “This Flip is engineered to last, encased in Armor Aluminum and fitted with Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus 2 on the cover screen.” That statement is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent test result; it specifies cover-screen glass and should not be taken as a claim about the inner display’s protection.

Cover-screen software and AI

Samsung highlights FlexWindow customization, FlexCam, and One UI 9 integration. The company says the main home-screen layout integrates with FlexWindow and that Now Brief is available from the cover screen. Samsung Global Newsroom characterizes the phone as arriving “with more intuitive AI on FlexWindow”; that is Samsung’s positioning, not an independent assessment of AI quality. Samsung Global Newsroom uses that description.

Processor and video stabilization

Tom’s Guide identifies the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as the major performance upgrade. Its benchmark figures reflect that publication’s test setup rather than a guarantee of the same results for every user or workload. The review also highlights Horizontal Lock stabilization in Super Steady video as a software addition and describes it as useful for keeping handheld clips level. Tom’s Guide’s review discusses its benchmarks and video feature.

Camera hardware remains familiar

Tom’s Guide says the camera hardware is broadly similar to the Z Flip7. The notable distinction in its account is the Horizontal Lock software feature, rather than a major camera-hardware overhaul. Whether that matters depends on how much you shoot video and how useful stabilization is in your own recording.

Price, display and battery figures

Tom’s Guide reports these U.S. launch prices for the Z Flip8. They are launch figures, not a guarantee of current pricing; prices vary by market and can change over time.

Storage U.S. launch price reported by Tom’s Guide
256 GB $1,199
512 GB $1,399

The same review describes a 6.9-inch main AMOLED display and reports a 2,150-nit peak-brightness measurement. The brightness figure is a reviewer measurement under the outlet’s test conditions, not a promise that the screen will reach that level in every situation. Tom’s Guide also reports a 4,300 mAh battery capacity.

Tom’s Guide’s article gives conflicting battery-test runtimes: its comparison table lists 12 hours 50 minutes, while its prose says an average of 12 hours 5 minutes. Because those figures do not agree, neither should be treated here as a reliable single runtime result. For a buying decision, compare battery tests that use the same methodology and conditions.

Which colors are available?

Samsung’s U.S. product page lists Pink, Graphite and Cream, with Mint as a Samsung.com-only color on that page. Those are U.S.-listed options; colors and sales channels can differ elsewhere. Confirm the options shown for your country before ordering.

Is the Galaxy Z Flip8 worth upgrading to?

For most Z Flip7 owners, the available evidence points to an incremental rather than essential upgrade. Tom’s Guide describes the new phone as very similar overall and says existing owners do not need to upgrade. Its buying guide sees a stronger case for someone moving on from a phone around three years old. That is editorial advice, not a rule: your phone’s condition, trade-in offer, and priorities can change the value.

Use these questions to make the comparison specific to your situation:

  • How old is your current phone, and what condition is it in? A recent, working Flip7 is a different starting point from a roughly three-year-old phone with declining battery health or damage.
  • What will you actually pay? Compare the price for the storage you need, any trade-in value, and the current price in your market rather than relying on U.S. launch pricing.
  • Would the processor change matter to you? The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is the identified performance upgrade; benchmark scores are specific to a reviewer’s setup and may not predict your everyday experience.
  • Are you buying for photography or video? The reported camera hardware is broadly similar to the prior generation. Horizontal Lock may be more relevant if you record handheld video than if you mainly take still photos.
  • How important are portability and cover-screen features? Consider the listed 180 g weight, folded handling, FlexWindow customization and the cover-screen features you would use.
  • What do consistent battery tests show? The cited review’s two runtime figures conflict, so avoid treating either as settled. Compare results from a reliable source using the same test method across phones.
  • Which software features and support matter? Check the current details for your region and compare the features you will use, rather than assuming a new model alone justifies replacement.

A current clamshell competitor may also belong in the comparison, but compare equivalent storage, local pricing, folded dimensions, cover-screen features, camera and video capabilities, and software support. The information here does not establish a definitive winner against competitors.

What is known—and not known—about durability?

Samsung describes its frame, cover-screen glass, hinge and redesigned bezel, but those descriptions do not establish long-term durability in independent testing. No independent durability test is established in the available material. Treat claims about easier opening and improved construction as manufacturer statements, not proof of a specific lifespan or resistance to damage.
