The Galaxy Z Flip8 is lighter and newer, with updated display, battery, camera and software specifications, but Samsung’s cited materials do not establish a complete like-for-like performance comparison with the Flip7. In US launch reporting, the Flip8’s 12GB/256GB model was priced $100 above the Flip7. That is a launch-price comparison, not a statement of what either phone costs today.

Flip7 launch and display details are in Samsung’s 2025 announcement and its global availability notice. Flip8 specifications and dates are from Samsung Australia’s product guide and Samsung Mobile Press. US launch prices were reported by the Associated Press for Flip7 and Android Central for Flip8. Blank Flip7 cells indicate that the cited materials do not establish those specifications for a paired comparison.
What changed from Flip7 to Flip8?
The Flip8 is 8 g lighter
Samsung Australia lists the Flip8 at 180 g and the Flip7 at 188 g, making the newer phone 8 g lighter on Samsung’s stated figures. Samsung lists the Flip8 as 6.1 mm thick unfolded and 13.1 mm folded; the cited comparison does not provide a matching Flip7 thickness figure, so a direct thickness difference cannot be calculated.
The cover display remains 4.1 inches
Both generations are described with a 4.1-inch FlexWindow. Samsung introduced the Flip7’s edge-to-edge cover display as a central feature. For Flip8, Samsung describes app access, widgets, alerts, music controls and Now Brief features on the cover screen. Display diagonals alone do not establish differences in brightness, refresh rate or image quality.

Flip8 specifications include a larger battery and three cameras
Samsung lists a 4,300mAh battery for Flip8 and 25W wired charging, plus wireless and reverse wireless charging. It also lists a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide camera and 10MP front camera. These are manufacturer specifications; capacity and megapixel counts do not show actual runtime or photo quality. The cited Flip7 material does not provide a complete paired battery or camera specification set.
The Flip8 processor depends on market
Samsung says Flip8 uses Exynos 2600 in select markets and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy in others. Check the specification for the country and exact model you plan to buy rather than assuming every Flip8 has the same processor. The cited material does not establish a complete Flip7 chipset comparison.

Flip8 launches with newer software
Samsung Australia’s guide lists Android 17 and One UI 9 for Flip8. It describes access to apps and practical controls from the FlexWindow, including widgets, alerts, music controls and Now Brief. Features and software availability may vary by region or update; the cited sources do not establish a directly comparable Flip7 software version or long-term update schedule.
How much more did the Flip8 cost at US launch?
US launch reporting put the Galaxy Z Flip7 at $1,099.99 and the Flip8 at $1,199 for the 12GB/256GB configuration—a reported $100 increase. The figures refer to launch pricing reported at different times, not a current retail-price check. The evidence does not establish a comparable Flip8 512GB launch price or current discounts. Prices elsewhere can differ by country, seller, storage tier and date.

Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Flip8 if the specific upgrades matter to you
- You want the newer model and its listed 6.9-inch main display, 4,300mAh battery, camera specifications and Android 17/One UI 9 software.
- You value the 8 g lower weight shown in Samsung’s comparison.
- You have checked which chipset and storage configuration are sold in your market and are comfortable with the price of that specific model.
Consider the Flip7 if it is available for less
- You want to spend less and find the Flip7 at a lower price from a seller you trust.
- The 4.1-inch FlexWindow and foldable format meet your needs, and the Flip8’s listed changes are not worth the difference to you.
Because launch pricing is not today’s street pricing, compare current offers for the same storage tier and region before deciding. The cited evidence does not support claims that one phone has better battery life, benchmark performance, camera results, crease durability or hinge reliability.
