The Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic still has a distinctive advantage over many touch-only watches: its stainless-steel case surrounds a physical rotating bezel that makes menus easier to navigate. It also runs Samsung’s Wear OS platform and offers a broad set of health and fitness features. But it is a 2021 watch, and a September 2026 report says its software-support cycle has ended. That makes it most compelling as an affordable used or refurbished purchase—not as a default choice for someone prioritizing long-term updates.
What distinguishes the Galaxy Watch4 Classic?
The Classic’s signature control is a physical rotating bezel. Turn it to move through menus and notifications, or use the two side buttons for additional controls. The case is stainless steel, and the watch launched in 42 mm and 46 mm sizes. Unlike the standard Galaxy Watch4, the Classic was designed around this bezel and a more traditional watch appearance.
Samsung’s 2021 launch materials describe the generation’s software as Wear OS Powered by Samsung with One UI Watch: Google services and apps such as Maps alongside Samsung offerings including Samsung Pay, SmartThings and Bixby. Samsung also named third-party apps including Adidas Running, Calm, Strava and Spotify. These are launch-era examples; availability and app functions may have changed.

Which size should you choose?
The two sizes differ in display, battery capacity, dimensions and weight. The figures below are Samsung’s published specifications, not measurements from an independent test.
#1 Best Overall
- Rotating Bezel Navigation: Physical rotating bezel allows precise and intuitive control of apps and menus.
| Model | Display | Battery capacity | Dimensions | Listed weight | Band width |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch4 Classic 42 mm | 1.2-inch, 396 × 396 | 247 mAh | 41.5 mm square | 46.5 g | 20 mm |
| Galaxy Watch4 Classic 46 mm | 1.4-inch, 450 × 450 | 361 mAh | 45.5 mm square | 52 g | 20 mm |
The 42 mm version is smaller and lighter, while the 46 mm version has a larger display and higher-capacity battery. Both are listed with interchangeable 20 mm bands. If buying a 20 mm Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic replacement band, check the seller’s compatibility details against your exact case and attachment; width alone does not guarantee that every band will fit.
Does it work with your phone?
Do not assume it will pair with every phone or use the generic Wear OS setup flow. Samsung’s datasheet specifies a select Bluetooth-capable Android phone running Android 6.0 or later with more than 1.5 GB of RAM. Supported features can also vary by phone and carrier. Google’s Wear OS guidance says Wear OS 3 watches are not compatible with the generic Wear OS app setup flow and directs Galaxy Watch4 owners to Samsung’s setup instructions.
Before buying, confirm that Samsung’s current setup guidance supports your phone and that the features you want are available in your country. App, carrier and market compatibility can affect the experience.

Health and fitness features—and their limits
Samsung’s BioActive sensor package combines optical heart-rate, electrical heart and bioelectrical impedance analysis sensors. The company advertised heart-rate and blood-oxygen measurements, body composition, activity tracking, guided workouts and sleep features.
Samsung’s 2021 U.K. launch description says body composition can report skeletal muscle, basal metabolic rate, body water and body-fat percentage. Samsung claimed a reading takes about 15 seconds and uses 2,400 data points; those are manufacturer claims, not independently validated results.
Health functions are not a substitute for medical evaluation. Samsung’s datasheet says SpO₂ measurement software is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent disease, and gives a similar limitation for the stated VO₂ max purpose. Some functions require a compatible phone, app or carrier, or depend on market availability. For example, snore measurement requires a compatible Android phone and Samsung Health configuration. Check availability and setup requirements for the specific feature you expect to use.

Battery life and performance
Samsung listed capacities of 247 mAh for the 42 mm model and 361 mAh for the 46 mm model. At launch in 2021, Samsung advertised up to 40 hours of battery life and said a 30-minute charge could provide up to 10 hours. These are historical manufacturer claims, not current independent measurements. A used watch’s actual endurance will also depend on its battery condition and use; no controlled current battery test is established here.
Samsung’s U.K. launch announcement lists an Exynos W920 5 nm dual-core processor running at 1.18 GHz, with 1.5 GB RAM and 16 GB storage. These are historical specifications, not a measure of how quickly an individual watch performs today. Samsung’s launch-era performance comparisons with the previous generation were the company’s own claims.

Samsung’s update history for the LTE Galaxy Watch4 Classic model SM-R895F lists AndroidWear 6.0, released August 24, 2026, with a security patch level dated August 5, 2026. Samsung cautions that updates can differ by model, country and service provider. That entry documents one regional LTE model; it does not establish the update status of every Watch4 Classic SKU.

Android Central reported on September 10, 2026 that Samsung had removed the Watch4 and Watch4 Classic from its security-update list and described the August update as the final one after the five-year support cycle. Samsung’s model update page confirms the August release but does not itself say that support has ended. Treat the reported end of support as a serious concern and check the update record for the precise model and region you are considering.
Verdict: should you buy it?
The Watch4 Classic makes sense if you specifically want a physical rotating bezel, prefer its stainless-steel styling, and can get a compatible Android-phone setup at a price that reflects its age and reported support endpoint. Its Wear OS app mix and sensor features remain useful on paper, but actual availability depends on device, region and setup, and health readings should not be treated as diagnosis.
