The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra’s main changes are a newer processor and software generation. Samsung says it delivers up to 61% faster NPU processing, 19% faster CPU performance and 17% improved GPU power than the Tab S11 Ultra—but those are Samsung’s claims, not independent test results. The 14.6-inch screen and the listed Wi-Fi model’s weight and thickness remain the same.

What actually changed: processor and software
New silicon, with Samsung’s performance claims
The S12 Ultra moves to MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500, while Samsung lists the S11 Ultra’s platform as MT6991. Samsung says the S12 improves NPU processing by up to 61%, CPU performance by 19% and GPU power by 17% compared with the S11 Ultra (Samsung Global Newsroom, September 30, 2026).
These percentages are manufacturer comparisons, not results from an independently tested, like-for-like benchmark. “Up to” also matters: it describes Samsung’s stated ceiling, not a guaranteed improvement in every app or task. They are most relevant if your work makes sustained use of demanding CPU/GPU tasks or AI features.
A newer Android and One UI generation
Samsung lists the S12 Ultra with Android 17 and One UI 9, compared with Android 16 and One UI 8.0 for the S11 Ultra in its 2026 interim report (Samsung UK; Samsung Electronics). That establishes a newer launch-generation software platform; it does not, by itself, establish how long either tablet will receive updates.

What stayed the same: the large-screen experience
Both tablets have a 14.6-inch display with 2960×1848 resolution. Samsung’s S12 UK specification table lists a 120Hz refresh rate and Dynamic AMOLED 2X; the cited S11 report excerpt confirms its size and resolution but does not state its refresh rate. The headline screen dimensions and pixel resolution therefore are not a generational change based on the available official figures.
For the Wi-Fi models, Samsung lists the same 208.5 × 326.3 × 5.1mm body and 692g weight for both generations. The S12 5G model is listed at 695g. So the new Ultra is not thinner or lighter than the S11 Wi-Fi model on these published figures.
New-buyer details: storage, battery and connectivity
Samsung UK lists three S12 Ultra memory/storage configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 1TB storage. It also lists microSD expansion up to 2TB. That is a supported capacity ceiling, not a recommendation or compatibility guarantee for every card. The reviewed S11 report excerpt does not provide a matching storage table, so a complete generation-to-generation storage comparison cannot be made from these figures.

The S12 UK specification table lists an 11,600mAh battery, 45W charging, 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. The cited S11 material does not establish equivalent figures for those categories, so these S12 specifications should not be presented as confirmed upgrades over the S11.

What comes in the box
Samsung says the S Pen is included with the S12 Ultra. The device charger is not. Samsung lists the S12 Pro Keyboard with trackpad and S12 covers as compatible accessories sold separately; check the product listing for your country and exact tablet model before buying (Samsung UK).
Do not assume an S11 keyboard or cover will fit the S12 simply because both tablets share the same listed body dimensions. The cited material treats the accessories as model-specific and does not confirm cross-generation compatibility. Include a compatible keyboard’s separate cost if you want a laptop-like DeX setup.

Should an S11 Ultra owner upgrade?
An upgrade is easiest to justify if your demanding creative, AI or productivity workloads could benefit from the newer platform and Samsung’s claimed performance gains. If you primarily value the large screen and similar physical form, the listed S12 Wi-Fi dimensions, weight and screen resolution do not point to a dramatic hardware change.

Which one should a new buyer choose?
Compare the S12’s local price and availability with any discounted S11 offer before deciding. The S12 brings the newer launch-generation processor and software, while the shared screen size and resolution make the display proposition familiar. Prices, stock, configurations and accessory availability vary by market; the cited product specifications are for the UK and do not establish a market-wide price comparison.
