The Galaxy S26 is the stronger default if you want the newer processor, a slightly larger display, and 256GB in the reported US base configuration. The Galaxy S25 is the better fit if it costs meaningfully less where you shop or you prefer a smaller, lighter phone. The launch-price comparison is clear, but there is no verified live October 2026 price here to declare a current-value winner; compare local offers before buying.

Which phone is the better buy for you?

Choose the Galaxy S26 if newer hardware and 256GB matter

  • You want the newer generation of processor. The S26 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Exynos 2600 depending on market; confirm the processor in the exact regional model, especially if buying an import.
  • You want a 256GB base configuration. Tom’s Guide reported the S26 at $899 for 256GB at US launch. That was $40 more than the S25’s $859.99 US launch price for the same storage.
  • You prefer a marginally larger screen and do not mind a small increase in size and weight.
  • You want Samsung’s newer Galaxy AI generation and One UI 8.5 as identified for the S26 on Samsung’s UK comparison page. The cited information does not establish a complete difference in feature availability by region or software-support duration between the phones.

Choose the Galaxy S25 if price or compactness matters more

  • You find the S25 at a sufficiently lower current price. The launch-price figures cannot tell you whether a live offer makes it the better deal today.
  • You want the slightly smaller, lighter option: Tom’s Guide lists the S25 at 6.2 inches and 162g, compared with Samsung’s 6.3-inch and 167g figures for the S26.
  • You do not need the S26’s newer regional processor or its reported 256GB base configuration. At US launch, the S25 also came in a 128GB option for $799.

Price and storage: compare like with like

At US launch in 2026, Tom’s Guide reported the Galaxy S26 at $899 with 256GB. The S25 launched at $799 for 128GB and $859.99 for 256GB. That makes the S26’s launch premium $40 when comparing equal 256GB capacities; comparing it with the S25’s cheapest launch configuration also means comparing twice the storage on the S26.

Those are historical launch prices, not a quote for any market’s October 2026 checkout price. For a current buying decision, compare the same storage capacity and sales conditions, and check whether the listing is for the correct generation, region, unlocked or carrier model, and actual available stock. A discounted S25 could be better value, but the current price difference needs to be checked where you plan to buy.

Size and display: the S25 is slightly more compact

Samsung’s Q1 2026 interim report specifies a 6.3-inch FHD+ display at 2340 × 1080 for the base S26, along with dimensions of 149.6 × 71.7 × 7.2 mm and a weight of 167g. Tom’s Guide lists the S25’s display as 6.2 inches and its weight as 162g. The difference is modest: the S26 offers a little more screen area, while the S25 is the lighter choice. These figures do not establish differences in brightness, refresh rate, or display quality.

Performance: check which S26 processor is sold in your market

Tom’s Guide lists two S26 processor variants: Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and Exynos 2600. Which one you receive depends on region. The S25 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in the comparison. The source figures identify the hardware, but do not establish benchmark results or a measured everyday-speed advantage, so a performance verdict should not be inferred from the model names alone. If buying across borders, check the exact SKU rather than assuming every S26 has the same chipset.

Cameras: the base models share the same listed setup

Tom’s Guide lists the same rear-camera configuration for both base phones: a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3× zoom. That specification match does not prove that photos look identical, and the cited sources do not provide a verified independent camera test to settle image quality.

Keep Samsung’s S26 Ultra camera claim separate from this comparison. Samsung’s UK page says the S26 Ultra’s 200MP f/1.4 main camera is 47% brighter than the S25 Ultra’s main camera. That is Samsung’s claim about the Ultra models; it is not a specification or demonstrated improvement for the standard S26 over the standard S25.

Battery and charging: more capacity is not a runtime test

Tom’s Guide lists a 4,300mAh battery for the S26 and a 4,000mAh battery for the S25. Both are listed with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. The larger stated capacity favors the S26 on paper, but capacity alone does not establish longer battery life. The cited information does not include controlled runtime results, so choose based on measured tests if endurance is a deciding factor.

Release timing and software details

Samsung’s UK comparison says the S26 series was announced on 25 February 2026 and became generally available on 11 March 2026. Those dates describe Samsung’s UK account and should not be assumed to represent identical sale dates or terms in every country. The same page identifies One UI 8.5 for the S26 and positions it as the latest Galaxy AI generation; specific feature availability can depend on region and software, and the cited sources do not establish a comparative support-duration figure for the S25 and S26.

Verdict: buy the S26 unless the S25 is substantially cheaper or size wins

For a buyer choosing between base models, the S26 is the more straightforward pick when the local price premium is acceptable: it is the newer phone, has a slightly larger display, and was reported with 256GB as its US base configuration. The S25 makes more sense if a current discount creates a worthwhile saving or its slightly lower weight and smaller display better suit your preference. Since launch prices are not current offers, the deciding step is to compare live local prices at equal storage.
