The Galaxy S26 Ultra is the more capable option on paper for long-range zoom, screen resolution, storage capacity, and built-in screen privacy. The Galaxy S26 FE costs substantially less at the cited US prices while retaining a 120Hz AMOLED display, a 3x optical telephoto camera, IP68 protection, and Samsung’s stated seven-year software-support commitment. Choose based on which of those differences matters to you—not on an assumed camera, speed, or battery-life advantage that specifications alone cannot prove.

Specifications are from Samsung’s February 25, 2026 S26 series announcement and its August 27, 2026 US S26 FE announcement, except where regional differences are noted.
What are the biggest differences?
Display: sharper and more adaptive on the Ultra
The Ultra’s 6.9-inch QHD+ panel is both larger and higher-resolution than the FE’s 6.7-inch FHD+ screen. Its refresh rate adapts from 1Hz to 120Hz, while the FE lists 60Hz and 120Hz modes. The FE still offers a large AMOLED display with a fast-refresh option; the Ultra’s advantage is more screen detail and a broader adaptive refresh range. Samsung measures the Ultra display at 6.9 inches across the full rectangle; the viewable area is smaller because of rounded corners and the camera opening.
Cameras: the Ultra adds dedicated long-range reach
The Ultra has four rear cameras, including two telephoto lenses: a 5x optical unit and a 3x optical unit. Samsung also lists 2x and 10x optical-quality zoom. The FE has three rear cameras and a genuine 3x optical telephoto lens, alongside its wide and ultrawide cameras. That makes the FE more than a basic wide-camera setup, but it does not offer the Ultra’s dedicated 5x optical reach. These specifications do not establish how much better either phone’s photos look in real use; that requires comparable camera testing.

Performance: different chips, no established winner
The Ultra uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, while the FE uses Samsung’s Exynos 2500. Those are different platforms, but the available specifications do not provide a head-to-head benchmark or evidence about sustained gaming speed, heat, or everyday responsiveness. It would be premature to claim a measured performance lead from the processor names alone.
Battery and charging: close capacities, no endurance verdict
The listed typical capacities are 5,000mAh for the Ultra and 4,900mAh for the FE. That 100mAh difference does not establish which lasts longer: battery life also depends on display settings, network conditions, workload, and software. Samsung’s charging percentages are manufacturer claims under stated adapter-dependent conditions, not a direct comparison of real-world charging times. The 60W Ultra adapter and 45W FE adapter are sold separately according to the cited announcements; check the package contents in your market before budgeting for one.

Storage, weight, and privacy
The Ultra offers up to 1TB, compared with 256GB in the US FE launch announcement, which may matter if you keep large files or record a lot of video. At 193g, the FE is 21g lighter than the 214g Ultra. Samsung lists a built-in Privacy Display on the Ultra; no equivalent feature appears in the cited FE specifications. It is a screen-privacy feature, not a guarantee that private information is protected in every situation.

How much more does the S26 Ultra cost?
The available US prices are snapshots from different contexts, not a synchronized price list. Samsung America announced the FE at a US launch MSRP of $699.99 on August 27, 2026. Tom’s Guide reported on October 1, 2026 that the Ultra’s new 256GB starting price was $1,399 and the FE’s current starting price was $699. In that report, the 512GB Ultra was $1,599 and the 1TB model was $1,999. The reported $700 difference between the 256GB Ultra and $699 FE is therefore specific to those dated US figures, not a guaranteed or worldwide price gap.

For India, Samsung announced the S26 FE at INR 79,999 for the 8GB/256GB model on September 14, 2026; offers and availability vary. Samsung’s India announcement does not establish an Ultra price for a like-for-like comparison. See the India launch announcement. For the US figures, see Samsung’s FE launch announcement and Tom’s Guide’s October 1 price report.
- Compare the same storage capacity where possible, and distinguish launch MSRP from a retailer’s current offer.
- Check the local market, currency, carrier terms, and date before treating a price as current.
- Include the cost of a compatible charger if you need one, and confirm regional box contents.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if these features justify its price
- You want a larger, higher-resolution QHD+ display with adaptive 1–120Hz refresh.
- You value a dedicated 5x optical telephoto camera as well as a separate 3x telephoto.
- You need the Ultra’s higher storage ceiling of up to 1TB.
- You want its built-in Privacy Display and are comfortable with the higher cited US price.
Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if value and support matter more
- You want a lower-cost entry into the S26 generation based on the available local offer.
- A large 120Hz AMOLED screen and 3x optical telephoto camera meet your needs.
- You prefer the lighter of these two models.
- Samsung’s explicit promise of seven OS generations and seven years of security updates is important to your purchase.
The FE support promise is stated in Samsung’s global-launch terms. The cited Ultra announcement does not establish an equivalent support duration, so do not assume the same commitment applies without checking Samsung’s current regional support information.

Are the S26 Ultra and S26 FE waterproof?
No. Samsung lists IP68 for both, but that rating is not a promise that either phone is waterproof. Samsung’s qualification is based on laboratory submersion in up to 1.5 meters of freshwater for up to 30 minutes; water resistance is not permanent and can diminish with wear. Avoid treating the rating as protection against every liquid, pressure, or condition.
