There is no proven universal winner between Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel cameras. PhoneArena’s current camera scores put the Galaxy S26 Ultra just ahead of the Pixel 11 Pro XL, but those figures are not a direct scene-by-scene photo test. The available hands-on comparison of more than 200 photos instead pits the Galaxy S26 Ultra against the older Pixel 10 Pro XL, so it cannot settle which of the two newest flagships takes better pictures.
For a meaningful choice, compare the exact models you are considering and the photos you care about: color, detail, moving subjects, night scenes, zoom, portraits and selfies. Results for an Ultra or Pro model do not automatically apply to the regular Galaxy or Pixel.
What do the latest camera scores say?
PhoneArena’s camera table lists the Galaxy S26 Ultra at 157 overall and 165 for photo, and the Pixel 11 Pro XL at 156 overall and 163 for photo. The table gives release dates of March 11, 2026, for the Samsung and August 20, 2026, for the Pixel. These are PhoneArena’s scores, not proof that the Samsung wins in every scene or that you will prefer its photos.

Tom’s Guide says it took over 200 photos with the Galaxy S26 Ultra and Pixel 10 Pro XL. That is useful hands-on evidence about those tested phones, but the Pixel 10 Pro XL is not the Pixel 11 Pro XL.

How the cameras differ on paper
Lens hardware helps explain what each phone can shoot, but megapixel counts alone do not tell you which image will look better. Samsung’s UK specifications list multiple rear cameras and two optical telephoto positions on the S26 Ultra. Google’s current Pixel specifications describe a Pro setup with a 5x telephoto; because the page covers several generations, check its model label and footnotes when matching specifications to a particular Pixel.

What photo comparisons reveal—and what they do not
Color, white balance and detail
In its Galaxy S25 Ultra versus Pixel 10 Pro comparison, TechRadar gave the Pixel 10 Pro an everyday-shooting edge for detail retention and color balance. Its broader camera guide describes Samsung photos as rich in color. These observations are about those reviewed models, not a definitive verdict on the S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro XL.

For the regular Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10, Tom’s Guide described the comparison as fairly even. In some examples, it found the S26 a little brighter and more detailed, while the Pixel output was noisier or lower quality at the extreme zoom range it tested. Those are regular models, not the Ultra-versus-Pro flagship pair.

TechRadar’s Pixel 10 Pro versus Galaxy S25 Ultra test favored the Pixel 10 Pro for motion capture. That is a reason to examine action shots in a comparison, not evidence that every Pixel generation or model tier captures movement better than every Galaxy.

Low light and night modes
TechRadar described the Pixel 10 Pro as capable in difficult night light. In one very-low-light comparison, it found that the Pixel needed Night Sight to produce a usable image; with the mode enabled, the review judged its detail retention, color and white balance better than the other phones in that test. The outcome depended on the mode and scene, and should not be generalized to the newest models.
Zoom, ultrawide, portraits and selfies
The cited comparison findings do not establish a current-generation winner for ultrawide or macro photos, portraits, or selfies. For zoom, Samsung’s S26 Ultra specifications list 3x and 5x optical telephotos, while Google’s Pro configuration lists a 5x telephoto; hardware alone does not establish which phone produces the more pleasing image at a given distance.

How to choose for the photos you take
- For the newest flagships: Treat the S26 Ultra and Pixel 11 Pro XL as separate candidates, but recognize that the cited 200-plus-photo hands-on comparison used the Pixel 10 Pro XL. The small difference in PhoneArena’s scores is not a substitute for a same-scene test.
- If you shoot moving people or pets: Look for motion examples and check whether the review used the default camera mode. The Pixel 10 Pro’s advantage in TechRadar’s older comparison is a model- and test-specific clue, not a current-generation guarantee.
- If night photos matter: Compare both default night results and images made with the dedicated night mode. A result captured with Night Sight should not be treated as equivalent to an automatic shot without that mode.
- If you rely on zoom: Check output at the distances you actually use, not only the phones’ advertised optical positions. Samsung lists separate 3x and 5x optical cameras; Google lists a 5x telephoto in its Pro configuration.
- If you want photos that look natural or ready to share: Compare color and white balance in familiar scenes. “More vivid,” “brighter,” or “more detailed” is not automatically the same as more realistic or more appealing to you.
- If you are comparing standard models: Use standard-model comparisons. The regular Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10 findings do not establish how the S26 Ultra or Pixel 11 Pro XL performs.
Verdict
The evidence does not establish that Samsung Galaxy or Google Pixel cameras are categorically better. PhoneArena’s current table gives the Galaxy S26 Ultra a narrow lead in its overall and photo scores, while the direct comparison of more than 200 photos uses the Pixel 10 Pro XL rather than the newer Pixel 11 Pro XL. Choose by exact model and the kinds of shots you take; the current evidence is not a direct head-to-head verdict on the newest Ultra and Pro XL.
