Buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra if its built-in Privacy Display, improved low-light camera apertures, and faster charging are worth the extra cost to you. Choose the Galaxy S25 Ultra if it is substantially cheaper for the same storage and condition: its screen size, battery capacity, camera resolution lineup, and premium-phone capabilities remain close to the newer model. Prices vary by market and seller. In the US, a price report dated October 1, 2026 put the S26 Ultra at $1,399 for 256GB, $1,599 for 512GB, and $1,999 for 1TB, so check current local prices before deciding.
What is different between the Galaxy S26 Ultra and S25 Ultra?
The S26 Ultra’s clearest additions are a screen designed to restrict side-angle viewing, wider apertures on its main and 5x telephoto cameras, a newer processor, and higher wired and wireless charging limits. The S25 Ultra retains a 6.9-inch high-resolution display, the same stated battery capacity and video-playback maximum, and the same rear-camera resolution lineup.

Is the S26 Ultra’s Privacy Display worth upgrading for?
The Privacy Display is the most distinctive display change: Samsung says it limits what people can see from the side, which may be useful when reading messages or work material in public. Samsung describes it as the world’s first mobile Privacy Display; that superlative is the manufacturer’s claim. Both phones have a 6.9-inch screen, and the S26’s panel supports up to 120Hz adaptive refresh.

On paper, both have a 2,600-nit peak-brightness rating. TechRadar’s reviewer found the S26 slightly dimmer in practice, but described the difference as small. If side-angle privacy is not important to you, the display alone may not justify paying a large premium for the newer phone.
How much better are the S26 Ultra cameras?
The camera resolution lineup is unchanged: both phones have a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, a 10MP 3x telephoto, a 50MP 5x telephoto, and a 12MP selfie camera. The S26’s main camera aperture widens from f/1.7 to f/1.4, and its 5x telephoto aperture widens from f/3.4 to f/2.9. Wider apertures can admit more light, making those cameras more promising for low-light scenes.

Samsung claims the S26’s main camera is 47% brighter and its 50MP telephoto is 37% brighter; those percentages are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements. TechRadar reports its comparison found the S26 a little clearer and cleaner in low light and at longer zoom ranges, characterizing the improvement as incremental rather than a new camera system. The S26 also adds video features TechRadar notes, including the APV codec and horizontal-lock Super Steady.

Both phones have a 5,000mAh battery, and Samsung gives each the same maximum video-playback figure: up to 31 hours. That manufacturer-stated figure does not establish equal everyday endurance, nor does it show that the S26 lasts longer. The cited sources do not provide an independently controlled, direct S26-versus-S25 battery-runtime test under identical conditions.

The S26 does have higher charging limits: up to 60W wired and 25W wireless, compared with 45W wired and 15W wireless on the S25. That is a specification advantage for charging, but actual results can depend on the charger, conditions, and usage. Do not treat a test of the S25 alone as a head-to-head runtime comparison.
Which phone feels better in your hand?
Samsung says the S26 Ultra is 0.3mm thinner than the S25 Ultra. TechRadar lists the S26 at 7.9mm and 214g, versus 8.2mm and 218g for the S25, and notes more rounded corners on the newer model. The S25 uses a titanium frame; the S26 changes to Armor Aluminum, according to TechRadar. The S26 is marginally slimmer and lighter on those listed figures, while frame-material preference is subjective.

How should you compare their prices?
Use the price for the same storage capacity, market, and condition. A discounted new S25 is not directly comparable to a refurbished S26, and a trade-in offer can change the effective cost without changing the phones’ listed prices.
For context, TechRadar lists S25 Ultra US launch prices of $1,299 for 256GB, $1,419 for 512GB, and $1,659 for 1TB. Tom’s Guide reported on October 1, 2026 that US S26 Ultra prices had risen to $1,399, $1,599, and $1,999 for those respective capacities; it reported the 256GB starting price had previously been $1,299. These are dated US figures, not today’s guaranteed price or prices for other countries. Check the seller, condition, warranty, stock, and trade-in terms before treating a deal as cheaper.

Which Galaxy Ultra should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if
- You want the built-in side-angle Privacy Display.
- You often shoot in low light or use the 5x telephoto and value the S26’s incremental camera improvements.
- You want its higher wired and wireless charging limits or newer processor.
- The price gap for the same storage and condition is small enough to justify those additions.
Choose the Galaxy S25 Ultra if
- You find it substantially cheaper than the S26 Ultra in the same storage capacity and comparable condition.
- You do not need the Privacy Display, the newer camera apertures, or faster charging.
- You want a large high-resolution screen, S Pen support, and high-end performance without paying for the newest generation.
Samsung identifies a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor in the S26 series. That makes the S26 a generational upgrade, but no benchmark comparison is established here; TechRadar describes the S25 as remaining a high-end performer. Either phone remains a capable premium option, so the deciding question is whether the S26’s specific additions are worth its price premium to you.
