If your Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra battery is draining faster than expected, start by checking which apps or services are using power before changing settings. Recent setup or updates, busy background apps, weak mobile coverage and 5G use can all contribute; fast drain by itself does not prove the battery is defective.
Check battery usage before changing settings
Open Settings > Battery > View details and review the battery-usage graph and apps or services near the top. Samsung notes that menu names can vary by model and software version, so look for the Battery screen and its usage details if that exact path is different on your phone. Compare the list with how you used the phone. A navigation app high in the list after a long trip may be expected; an unfamiliar app or one active when you have not used it deserves a closer look. Check whether the drain began after installing an app, restoring data, updating software or changing how you use the phone.
Consider recent setup, software and mobile signal
Allow for setup and optimization
Samsung says power use may be higher while a new or restored device is being set up and optimized. One unusually busy day after setup or a major change is not enough on its own to establish that the battery is faulty. Review the usage details over comparable periods as your normal routine resumes. Samsung UK also notes that actual battery life varies with network conditions and use.

Check for software updates
Go to Settings > Software update and install an available update. An update may address software issues that affect power use; it is a sensible check, not a guarantee of a particular battery-life improvement. Menu wording can differ by software version.
Account for weak coverage and 5G
Samsung says 5G networks may drain the battery faster, and weak or unstable cellular coverage can also contribute to higher power use. The effect depends on your network environment and usage; warmth during 5G use can occur, but does not by itself establish a battery fault. Samsung UK states that “5G networks may drain the battery faster” in support guidance updated 8 May 2023.

If 5G coverage is weak where you spend time and your carrier and phone settings allow it, try LTE for a day and compare with a similar day of use. This option is not available in every region or on every carrier plan. Samsung’s US 5G battery guidance discusses network and other settings to check.

Limit unnecessary background activity
Review Settings > Battery > Background usage limits. You can place apps you rarely use into Sleeping or Deep sleeping. Samsung describes Deep sleeping apps as working only when opened, so notifications, syncing or other background updates may be delayed until you launch them.

Do not put messaging, navigation, health or other time-sensitive apps into Deep sleeping if you rely on their background activity. Samsung’s battery troubleshooting guidance also describes using Battery and device care’s Optimize now option, where available, to close background apps and manage abnormal battery use. Labels and availability may vary by software version.
Try display and power settings one at a time
- Shorten screen timeout: A shorter timeout means the display turns off sooner when you stop using the phone.
- Use adaptive brightness: This can reduce unnecessary display brightness as surroundings change.
- Try Power saving mode: It prioritizes battery life and may limit some activity or features.
- Consider the Light performance profile: Samsung offers this option on supported devices; it prioritizes efficiency, with possible performance trade-offs.
Make one change, then compare battery use across similar periods and habits. That makes it easier to tell whether a setting helps without stacking changes that may inconvenience you. Samsung does not promise a fixed amount of extra battery life from these options.

When to run diagnostics or contact Samsung
Battery capacity gradually declines with repeated charging and discharging; lost capacity cannot be restored. Samsung Ireland describes the battery as “a consumable component” in guidance last updated 28 April 2026. To check the phone’s reported battery status, open the Samsung Members app and run Phone Diagnostics. The exact options may vary by region and app version.
If diagnostics flag a battery problem, or unusual drain continues after you have checked apps, software and network conditions, contact Samsung support or an authorized service provider in your market. Do not open the phone or rely on an unverified replacement battery. Samsung’s regional guidance explains battery drain and battery condition and Samsung Members diagnostics; support procedures and service availability can vary by country.

Ignore battery-fix alerts in pop-ups
Do not install an app offered by a pop-up that claims your battery is draining fast. Samsung warns that some third-party apps use fake fast-drain alerts to persuade people to download more apps.
