The Samsung Galaxy S25 is a strong choice if you want a small, lightweight Android flagship with a fast processor, a high-refresh display, and long software support. Its main compromises are incremental camera hardware, only 3x optical telephoto reach, and 25W wired charging. For Galaxy S24 owners, the upgrade makes most sense with a specific reason to switch or a particularly good trade-in offer.
What the Galaxy S25 is—and which model this review covers
This review is about the base Galaxy S25, not the larger S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, or S25 FE. Android Central lists a 6.2-inch 120Hz Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM, 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 4,000mAh battery. The phone weighs 162g. Samsung’s official specification page is the place to verify the exact configuration available in your market; storage and connectivity can vary by region.
Those dimensions are central to the S25’s appeal. It is easier to handle than a large-screen flagship, while still offering a high-refresh display and flagship-class processor. If one-handed use and a lighter pocket feel matter more to you than a larger screen or battery, the compact form is a practical advantage rather than a minor spec-sheet detail.
Galaxy S25 pros and cons at a glance
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Compact 162g body and 6.2-inch 120Hz display, according to Android Central’s 2025 review. | Core hardware and rear camera setup are iterative rather than a major generational leap, according to The Guardian and Android Central. |
| Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy delivers strong performance in Android Central’s review. | Performance can throttle under sustained stress testing, Android Central observed. |
| Three rear cameras include a 3x optical telephoto camera in a compact phone. | 3x optical zoom has less reach than the 5x telephoto cameras available on some compact rivals, Tom’s Guide notes. |
| Samsung’s feature-rich One UI and a stated seven generations of OS upgrades plus seven years of security updates from global launch. | 25W wired charging is modest beside faster-charging competitors, and the 4,000mAh battery is smaller than those in larger S25 models. |
| Android Central’s reviewer reported all-day use and more than six hours of screen-on time in a mixed-use routine. | Galaxy AI alone may not make a durable upgrade case if features reach older Galaxy phones, a consideration raised by Tom’s Guide. |
How good are the Galaxy S25’s performance and display?
The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is one of the S25’s clearest strengths. Android Central’s reviewer described performance as powerful in normal use, making the phone well suited to everyday multitasking and demanding apps. The same review observed throttling under sustained stress testing, so peak performance should not be mistaken for unlimited performance during prolonged heavy workloads.

The 6.2-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel supports a 120Hz refresh rate. That combination gives the S25 a flagship-style display in a relatively small body. Its compact size is a benefit for handling, but it also means less screen area than a larger phone—an important trade-off if you often watch video, read on your phone, or work with several items on screen.
What are the Galaxy S25 cameras like?
The rear camera system comprises a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, and a telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, according to Android Central’s review. That gives you a useful range of perspectives, including a dedicated telephoto option, without moving to a larger phone.

- US Model - Compatible with Most GSM Carriers like AT&T, T-Mobile, MetroPCS, etc. Will Also work with CDMA Carriers Such as Verizon, Straight Talk.
The hardware is not a major change from earlier generations, however. Reviewers point to the carryover camera setup, and Tom’s Guide notes that some compact rivals offer 5x telephoto reach. That difference matters most when you regularly photograph distant subjects: 3x is useful for portraits and moderately distant scenes, while 5x provides more optical reach before relying on digital cropping. The evidence here supports a distinction in zoom reach, not a claim that one phone takes better photos overall.

How long does the battery last, and how fast does it charge?
The S25 has a 4,000mAh battery. Android Central’s reviewer reported all-day use and more than six hours of screen-on time during a mixed-use routine; that is one reviewer’s result, not a guarantee for every user. Screen brightness, network conditions, apps, and time spent gaming or recording video can change the outcome.

Charging is less ambitious than on some competitors. Android Central lists 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. In Tom’s Guide’s 2025 test using a Samsung 25W charger, the phone reached 28% after 15 minutes and 57% after 30 minutes. Those figures describe that publication’s test setup, not a universal charging result.
How long will Samsung support the Galaxy S25?
Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy S25 Product Environmental Report states that the phone receives seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch. That gives buyers a long stated support horizon. The commitment is measured from the global launch, not from the date an individual buys the phone. Samsung’s product environmental report provides the company’s published support statement.

Should you upgrade from the Galaxy S24?
For most S24 owners with a working phone, the S25’s year-over-year hardware case is modest: the reviewers describe iterative changes and a carried-over rear camera setup. Upgrading is easier to justify if you specifically want the newer processor or the current Galaxy AI and software experience, or if a favorable trade-in makes the net cost worthwhile. Treat Galaxy AI as a feature preference rather than a guaranteed exclusive reason to replace an S24, since features can reach older Galaxy devices.
Android Central reported US launch prices of $799.99 for 128GB and $859.99 for 256GB, and a February 7, 2025 release. These are historical launch prices, not current offers. Compare the live price for your region, storage size, carrier or unlocked status, and trade-in before deciding what the S25 is worth to you.

Who should buy the Galaxy S25?
- Buy it if: you want a compact, light Android flagship, value Samsung’s One UI experience, and want a dedicated telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
- Consider another fit if: long-range zoom, faster charging, or a larger battery is a higher priority than compact handling.
- Keep your S24 unless: the S25’s processor or software features meet a specific need, or your trade-in and purchase price make the upgrade compelling.
For any alternative, compare size and weight, display, sustained performance, camera quality and telephoto reach, battery in a routine like yours, wired and wireless charging, software-support duration, and the current price after discounts or trade-in. Those factors are more useful than comparing headline specs in isolation.
