Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S25 series at Galaxy Unpacked on January 22, 2025. In the United States, preorders opened that day, but Samsung set February 7 as the date general availability began. So the January 22 “launch date” was the announcement date, not the first day of regular retail availability.
How the January 22 date became official
Samsung confirmed the event date in its January 7, 2025 invitation, which said, “On January 22, Samsung Electronics will host Unpacked in San Jose.” The event was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PT, with livestream times listed as 1 p.m. EST, 6 p.m. GMT, and 7 p.m. CET. Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked invitation also said the new Galaxy S series would be unveiled.
The date had been reported before Samsung issued the invitation. On January 6, TechCrunch reported January 22 as the next Unpacked date, while describing the Galaxy S25 unveiling as highly likely rather than treating it as a separately confirmed product announcement. TechCrunch’s January 6 report noted that the timing aligned with earlier reporting.
What happened on January 22—and when buyers could get the phones
On January 22, Samsung announced three phones: the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. The event date and the retail-availability date were separate milestones.

The preorder and availability dates above are Samsung’s U.S. schedule; they should not be taken as a complete retail timeline for every country. Samsung’s U.S. announcement also listed historical starting prices of $799.99 for the Galaxy S25, $999.99 for the S25+, and $1,299.99 for the S25 Ultra. Those are launch prices, not current prices. What Samsung said the S25 series introduced
Samsung positioned the S25 series around Galaxy AI, describing multimodal interactions, improvements to Circle to Search, and Gemini integration. These are Samsung’s product descriptions, not independent test findings. The company also said the series would receive seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates from global launch; it cautioned that timing may vary by device, provider, and market.

Samsung reported processor improvements over the previous generation of 40% in NPU, 37% in CPU, and 30% in GPU, and said display image-scaling quality improved 40%. Those figures are Samsung’s own specifications and test claims. They should not be read as independent measurements or as guarantees of the same gains in every use case. Which date should you use?
- If you mean when Samsung announced the phones, the answer is January 22, 2025.
- If you mean when U.S. preorders began, Samsung also gives January 22, 2025.
- If you mean when the phones became generally available in the United States, Samsung gives February 7, 2025.
