The Galaxy Z Fold8 and Galaxy S24 Ultra suit different priorities: the Fold8 opens into a 7.6-inch display for reading, media, and side-by-side tasks, while the S24 Ultra keeps the familiar, non-folding slab-phone design. In the U.S., Samsung lists the Fold8 from $1,899.99; it marks the S24 Ultra sold out on its direct-sales page. The S24 Ultra prices available for comparison are historical 2024 MSRPs, so they do not establish today’s price difference.

“Not stated” means the corresponding detail is not established by the Samsung materials used for this comparison; it is not a claim that the S24 Ultra lacks the feature. The standard Fold8 figures above do not describe the separate Fold8 Ultra model.
How the displays change the experience
Galaxy Z Fold8: a larger screen when unfolded
The Fold8’s main distinction is its 7.6-inch inner display, which Samsung lists in a 4:3 aspect ratio, alongside a 5.5-inch cover display. That layout gives you a smaller screen for using the phone while folded and a larger workspace when you open it. It may appeal if you expect to read, watch content, or keep tasks side by side on the unfolded screen. Whether that benefit is worth carrying and buying a foldable depends on how often you would use the inner display.
Samsung lists the Fold8 at 201 g and describes it as its lightest Galaxy Z Fold to date. Its product page gives a thickness of 4.5 mm, but the cited specification does not establish whether that measurement is for the phone open or folded, so it should not be treated as a direct like-for-like thickness comparison with the S24 Ultra.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Galaxy S24 Ultra: the non-folding choice
The S24 Ultra is the straightforward option if you do not want a folding screen. The available official evidence does not provide comparable S24 Ultra display measurements here, so a precise screen-size or screen-shape comparison cannot be made from these figures. The core decision is instead whether you prefer a conventional phone or expect to make regular use of the Fold8’s larger unfolded display.
Price difference and availability in the U.S.
Samsung’s U.S. Fold8 listing starts at $1,899.99. Samsung marks the S24 Ultra sold out on its U.S. direct-sales page. Its March 2024 U.S. MSRP file listed the S24 Ultra at $1,299.99 for 256 GB and $1,419.99 for 512 GB. Those are historical launch-era MSRPs—not current transaction prices—so subtracting them from the Fold8’s current starting listing would not give a reliable present-day price gap.

- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Samsung announced that Fold8 sales began August 7, 2026 in select markets and would expand worldwide, with availability across 106 markets. That company announcement does not establish current stock at every retailer or in every market. Carrier, marketplace, and refurbished listings may differ from Samsung’s direct-sales availability.

For a meaningful price check, compare the same storage capacity and country, and verify the seller, condition, stock, and date. A new phone from a retailer, a carrier offer, and a refurbished unit are not equivalent prices. Check live listings before buying; the evidence here does not establish a current like-for-like price for the S24 Ultra.

Fold8 specs that may matter to your choice
Performance and storage
Samsung lists the standard Fold8 with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy and storage options of 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. It does not support SD cards, so choose enough built-in storage for your needs. No comparable S24 Ultra processor or storage details are established in the Samsung materials used here, so these facts do not show which phone performs faster.
Cameras
Samsung describes the standard Fold8 as having 50 MP wide and 50 MP ultra-wide rear cameras, plus 10 MP cameras on both the cover screen and main screen. These are specifications, not a picture-quality verdict: megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better photos or video. Samsung distinguishes the standard Fold8 from the Fold8 Ultra, which has a different camera system.
Rank #4
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Battery and S Pen
The Fold8 has a listed 4,800 mAh battery. Samsung claims up to 26 hours of video playback under its test conditions; that manufacturer figure is not a guarantee of typical battery life. The available evidence does not supply a directly comparable S24 Ultra battery figure or an independent battery-life test, so it cannot identify a battery winner.
The standard Fold8 does not support S Pen. If S Pen compatibility is essential to your purchase, do not assume the Fold8 can replace a phone that supports the stylus.

Which phone should you buy?
Choose the Galaxy Z Fold8 if…
- You expect to use the unfolded 7.6-inch screen for reading, media, or side-by-side tasks.
- You want a cover screen as well as a larger inner display, and the foldable form factor suits your routine.
- You are comfortable selecting from its 256 GB, 512 GB, or 1 TB built-in storage without SD card expansion.
Choose the Galaxy S24 Ultra if…
- You prefer a conventional, non-folding phone rather than a device that opens into a larger display.
- You are considering a used, refurbished, or remaining retail unit and can verify its storage, condition, seller, and current price.
- You need S Pen support and have confirmed that the S24 Ultra listing you are considering meets that requirement.
Samsung’s available official specifications do not support declaring an overall winner for camera quality, battery life, durability, repair cost, or performance. Base the choice on the screen format and features you need, then compare current, like-for-like listings before paying.
