The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is a strong fit if you want a large-screen Android phone with a built-in S Pen, several useful camera zoom levels, and Samsung’s published seven-year software-support commitment. Its appeal is less clear if you prefer a compact phone, expect a dramatic camera leap over the prior generation, or need a confirmed current price before deciding.
What the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers
Samsung lists a 6.8-inch display and S Pen functionality for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. That combination makes it a large-format phone designed for people who value screen space and want a stylus available without carrying a separate accessory. Samsung says the S Pen can be used to jot notes in Samsung Notes or write messages and emails. Samsung’s model comparison and support page describes the S Pen and display.
Independent reviews from Tom’s Guide and The Guardian praised aspects including the screen, performance, battery life, and camera versatility. Those are the reviewers’ assessments, not standardized head-to-head results or fresh testing for this article.
How the cameras are arranged
The rear system combines four cameras, giving you multiple native focal lengths instead of relying on a single main camera for every kind of shot. Samsung lists these specifications:
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
| Rear camera | Samsung-listed specification | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Wide | 200MP | Main camera for general photography. |
| Ultrawide | 12MP | A wider field of view for scenes that are difficult to fit into a standard frame. |
| Telephoto | 50MP, 5x optical zoom | A longer optical zoom option. |
| Telephoto | 10MP, 3x optical zoom | A closer perspective than the wide camera, at a shorter optical zoom level than the 5x camera. |
These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every camera produces equally strong results in every lighting condition. The Guardian found the overall camera advance less dramatic than earlier generational jumps, even while describing the phone as versatile. That distinction matters if you are upgrading mainly for a major improvement in everyday photo quality: camera coverage is broad, but reviewers did not characterize every change as a breakthrough.
See Samsung’s S24 model comparison for the camera specifications and The Guardian’s review for its assessment of the camera generation.

Battery life: encouraging reviews, no guaranteed runtime
Tom’s Guide and The Guardian gave positive assessments of battery life, but the evidence here does not establish a standardized endurance figure that can be applied to every owner. Samsung cautions that actual battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns, and other factors in its Galaxy S24 series launch announcement.

Samsung’s software-support commitment
Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Ultra Product Environmental Report states seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. This is Samsung’s published commitment; it should not be read as a promise that every update arrives simultaneously in every region or that rollout timing will be identical for every device.
A long support commitment can make the phone more attractive if you keep devices for several years. It does not, by itself, settle whether the phone is a good value: your decision also depends on its current local price, condition, storage tier, and how much you will use the large display, stylus, and zoom cameras.

Pros and cons
| Pros | Cons and qualifications |
|---|---|
| Built-in S Pen for notes and writing. | The 6.8-inch display comes with a large-format design that will not suit everyone’s handling preferences. |
| Four rear cameras include ultrawide, 3x optical zoom, and 5x optical zoom options. | The Guardian judged the camera advance less dramatic than earlier generational changes. |
| Samsung publishes seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. | Samsung’s commitment does not establish identical update rollout timing in every region. |
| Independent reviewers praised the screen and performance, and also described battery life positively. | Battery life depends on network conditions and use; the available reviews do not establish a universal runtime. |
Is the Galaxy S24 Ultra worth buying?
It is worth considering if the features that distinguish the Ultra are the features you will actually use: a large display, a built-in S Pen, multiple optical zoom choices, and a long published software-support commitment. Reviewer praise for the screen, performance, and battery life adds to its case, but it does not make the phone the right choice for every budget or hand.
