The Galaxy S24 Ultra is a large, premium Samsung phone that combines an integrated S Pen, a versatile multi-camera system, a high-end display and Galaxy AI features. Its strongest case is for people who will use that mix—not for buyers drawn to AI alone. The trade-off is substantial size and weight, while current local pricing and availability depend on your market and retailer.
What the Galaxy S24 Ultra offers
Samsung US lists a 6.8-inch display, titanium construction and a 5,000mAh battery. Its US configurations pair 12GB of RAM with 256GB, 512GB or 1TB of storage. Those are specifications rather than measures of how the phone performs in every situation; your choice among the storage options should reflect how much space you need for apps, photos and video.
The large format is central to the experience. It gives room for a spacious screen and an integrated stylus, but it also makes this a phone to consider in your hand and pocket—not just on a specification sheet.

Display, build and everyday handling
The Guardian’s review, published 5 February 2024, praised the screen and described the phone as massive, heavy and extremely expensive. Those are the reviewer’s assessments, not measurements from a new hands-on test here. If you prefer a compact phone or often use a device one-handed, the S24 Ultra’s size is a meaningful drawback; if you want a large viewing and writing surface, it may suit you better.
#1 Best Overall
- 6.8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X QHD+ display with a 1–120 Hz adaptive refresh rate and up to ~2600 nits peak brightness — delivering a bright, sharp screen with smooth scrolling and great outdoor visibility.
Camera flexibility: four rear cameras and long zoom reach
Samsung US specifies four rear cameras: a 200MP wide camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera, a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The front camera is 12MP. Samsung also advertises up to 100x Space Zoom.
The combination of separate ultra-wide, 3x and 5x views gives the camera system several useful framing options without relying on one lens for every distance. But megapixel counts and the advertised maximum zoom are specifications, not guarantees of photo quality. Samsung’s 100x figure should not be read as a promise that images at that reach will retain the detail of an optical zoom shot.

Is the S Pen useful?
The S Pen is built into the phone, so it is available without carrying a separate stylus. Samsung describes uses including note-taking, messaging and Circle to Search. The Guardian reviewer praised its inclusion but considered it superfluous for many people. Its value therefore depends on your habits: handwriting notes, annotating or interacting with supported tools can make it a reason to choose the Ultra; if you rarely use a stylus, it adds little to your day-to-day experience.

Samsung introduced Galaxy AI tools for the S24 series including Circle to Search, Live Translate, Interpreter, Chat Assist, Note Assist and generative photo editing. These cover different tasks, from searching from what is on screen to translation, writing assistance, summarizing notes and editing images. Their presence does not mean every function will be available to every user in every language or region.

Samsung’s Singapore product information says generative photo editing requires network access and a Samsung account login. It says generated output is resized up to 12MP, visibly watermarked and not guaranteed to be accurate. Samsung also notes that requirements and availability can vary by feature, language, region and carrier; some tools require a Samsung account.
There is continued feature development for at least one specific model: Samsung’s US firmware notice for SM-S928U records a release dated 30 September 2026 and describes Photo Assist image generation and Creative Studio. That notice is evidence for the US model variant it names, not proof that all regional or carrier variants received the same update on that date.

Battery, charging and software support
The battery is rated at 5,000mAh. The Guardian reviewer praised battery life, but that is the review’s experience rather than a standardized result that guarantees a particular runtime for every user. Screen settings, signal, apps and workload affect how long a charge lasts.
Samsung’s January 2024 launch announcement specifies support for 45W wired charging and says the 45W adapter is sold separately. Samsung’s charging figures are based on controlled laboratory conditions with services, features and the display off; they should not be treated as an ordinary-use charging-time promise. Check the charger’s compatibility before buying one.

Samsung’s seven-year software-support commitment was cited as a strength in The Guardian’s 2024 review. That long support horizon is a practical advantage for someone planning to keep a phone for years, though the exact timing of updates can vary by model, carrier and region.

- Consider it if you want a large screen, expect to use the S Pen, value multiple camera perspectives and want Samsung’s AI tools as part of a broader flagship package.
- Think twice if a heavy, large phone is inconvenient, you have no use for a stylus, or the local price is difficult to justify for the features you will actually use.
- Do not buy it for AI alone. The Guardian’s 5 February 2024 review likewise judged AI insufficient by itself as a reason to buy; the more persuasive case is the combination of display, cameras, S Pen, performance and support.
