The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is a good fit if you want a large, smooth screen, a flexible rear camera system, Samsung’s Galaxy AI features, and a long update commitment without moving to the higher S24 tier. Its main compromises are modest battery endurance, less performance headroom than the standard Galaxy S24, and a disappointing selfie camera. Whether it is a good buy in 2026 depends on the price in your market; the $649.99 figure was its US launch price in 2024, not a current offer.

What the Galaxy S24 FE gets right

Large, fluid display

Samsung lists a 6.7-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz and Vision Booster. The 6.7-inch measurement is taken across the full rectangle; Samsung gives the viewable area accounting for rounded corners as 6.5 inches. At 213g in Samsung’s US specification table, it is a substantial phone rather than a compact one. Samsung notes that weight can vary by market. Samsung’s 2024 specifications and launch details provide those figures.

Useful rear-camera range

The rear system combines a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide, and an 8MP telephoto with OIS and 3x optical zoom. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer found the main camera versatile, including in a high-contrast scene where it retained highlights and lifted shadows. Close-up photos also showed good detail despite the lack of a dedicated macro mode. Those observations make the main camera the most dependable part of the camera system, rather than proof that every lens performs equally well. Tom’s Guide’s hands-on review details its camera observations.

Galaxy AI and a long update commitment

Samsung’s 2024 launch announcement lists features including Circle to Search, Interpreter, Live Translate, Note Assist, and Photo Assist. It also promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. That is a commitment from Samsung, not a statement of which Android or One UI version is installed on a particular device today; software availability can vary by region and rollout.

Water-resistance rating, with limits

Samsung specifies an IP68 rating and describes its lab condition as submersion in fresh water up to 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. The company cautions that water resistance is not permanent and diminishes over time, and advises against beach or pool use. Treat the rating as limited protection under stated conditions, not permission to use the phone underwater.

Where the S24 FE falls short

Selfies and distant zoom are weaker

The front camera is 10MP. Tom’s Guide’s reviewer found that bright areas in selfies could be overexposed and facial detail could look soft. The 8MP telephoto gives you genuine 3x optical zoom, but the reviewer saw a loss of definition in distant brickwork; detail also dropped beyond 10x zoom. Samsung markets its ProVisual Engine as using low-light ISP processing, a 50MP sensor for “optical-quality” performance at 2x and 3x, and an Object-Aware Engine for scene and color optimization. Those are Samsung’s product claims; they do not erase the limitations observed in the review.

Low light and video have trade-offs

Tom’s Guide found that low-light photos could blur if the phone was not held very steadily. Its reviewer judged a 4K/30fps video sample usable and detailed, but noted that ultrawide footage looked softer and noisier. These are observations from that review, not a guarantee of results in every scene or recording setup.

Performance is adequate, not top-tier

The phone uses Samsung’s Exynos 2400e processor. Tom’s Guide’s 2025 roundup reports that its benchmark comparisons put the chip behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the standard Galaxy S24, although the reviewer did not notice substantial lag during ordinary use. Samsung says the S24 FE has a larger vapor chamber intended to improve cooling during sustained performance. Taken together, the phone should suit typical daily tasks, while demanding games or sustained workloads are better reasons to consider a higher performance tier. Tom’s Guide’s 2025 Samsung-phone roundup includes its performance and battery positioning.

Battery life and charging: what to expect

Samsung lists a 4,700mAh typical battery capacity and a 4,565mAh rated minimum capacity. Tom’s Guide’s 2025 roundup records 11 hours and 38 minutes in its battery test and describes endurance as relatively modest compared with higher S24 models. That is one publisher’s test result under its methodology, not a prediction of your daily screen time; network conditions, settings, and workload affect real-world battery life.

Samsung says the phone supports 25W wired charging and that the power adapter is sold separately. Its claim of charging up to 50% in around 30 minutes is based on Samsung’s stated lab setup, so charging time in practice can differ with the adapter, cable, conditions, and use.

How to decide whether it is worth buying

The S24 FE’s value in 2026 is a local-price question. Samsung’s US launch starting price was $649.99 in 2024, but that historical MSRP does not establish today’s price, stock, carrier offers, or value in another market. Check current local offers rather than using launch pricing as a buying benchmark.

Choose the S24 FE if… Look at a higher S24 model if…
You want a large 6.7-inch screen and a 3x optical telephoto camera. More performance headroom for demanding games or sustained workloads is a priority.
Galaxy AI features and Samsung’s stated update commitment matter to you. You want stronger battery endurance than the S24 FE delivered in Tom’s Guide’s test.
Your everyday use is responsive enough on the Exynos 2400e and you find a compelling local price. You rely heavily on high-quality selfies, long-distance zoom, or steady low-light photography.

Compare models using current local prices and, where possible, battery results from the same test method. The S24 FE’s large display, rear-camera flexibility, and Samsung software make it a sensible option when those are your priorities; the performance, battery, and camera compromises make it less compelling when they are not.
