Neither phone is a clear winner on paper. The Samsung Galaxy S24 5G is the smaller, lighter phone and the one that supports NFC and eSIM. The OPPO Reno16 5G has the larger screen, the bigger battery, faster listed charging, three 50MP rear cameras and more internal storage at its base configurations. On price, the only side-by-side listing we could check shows the Reno16 at ₹2,009 more than the S24, but that listing does not confirm that the two phones have the same storage, so the gap is not a like-for-like figure. OPPO’s own official India prices, dated 31 August 2026, are ₹66,999 for the Reno16 8GB/256GB and ₹72,999 for the 12GB/256GB.

This comparison covers the Indian market only, using Samsung India’s Galaxy S24 8GB/128GB product page and OPPO India’s Reno16 5G model CPH2865. All specifications are manufacturer-published figures. Nothing here is based on our own benchmark, battery, camera or durability testing.

OPPO says Reno16-series models and specifications differ from country to country, so the Reno16 figures below apply to the Indian CPH2865 only. Size, weight and display

The S24 is the easier phone to hold and pocket. At 167 g it is noticeably lighter than the Reno16, and its body is thinner at 7.6 mm. The Reno16 trades that compactness for a screen about 0.4 cm larger on the diagonal, and its panel has more pixels, at 2640 × 1216 against 2340 × 1080. Both list a 120Hz refresh rate. The published resolution and pixel density tell you the Reno16 panel is sharper on paper, but they do not show how either screen looks in use, and a higher pixel count does not by itself make a screen look better.

Cameras

The Reno16 has more rear cameras at 50MP each, a wider 116° ultra-wide lens and a longer listed optical zoom at 3.5×. The S24 has a three-camera rear setup as well, but its telephoto is at 10MP and its optical zoom is 3×. On the front, the Reno16’s 50MP selfie camera has a higher stated resolution than the S24’s 12MP one.

Megapixel counts and zoom ratings describe the hardware, not the photos. Sensor size, processing, low-light performance and colour tuning all affect results, and none of them is covered by the spec sheets alone. If camera quality is the deciding factor, test both phones side by side in the conditions you shoot in most often.

Battery and charging

The Reno16 carries a much larger listed battery, at 6700mAh typical against the S24’s 4000mAh typical. OPPO also gives a rated figure of 6490mAh, which is lower than its typical value, so the two numbers are worth reading together. Charging favours the Reno16 as well, with 80W SUPERVOOC listed as the maximum and a charger included in the India box. Samsung’s page reviewed here does not state a charging wattage for the S24, and the box does not include a travel adapter.

The S24’s listed endurance figure is Samsung’s own estimate of up to 28 hours of video playback. A larger capacity does not guarantee longer real-world use, because the processor, screen brightness and network conditions all matter. We have not measured either phone’s endurance.

Storage, connectivity and features

Storage is where the configurations need the most care. The S24 page reviewed covers 8GB RAM with 128GB storage, while the Reno16 starts at 256GB. The Reno16 has no memory-card slot, so the 256GB or 512GB internal capacity is the full capacity you get. Compare the same storage size before drawing any value conclusion.

Samsung Galaxy S24 5G, US Version, 128GB, Onyx Black - Unlocked (Renewed)
  • This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).

Feature support is a clear dividing line. The S24 supports NFC, which matters for contactless payments and tap-to-pair accessories where your bank and region allow them. It also supports eSIM combinations and Samsung DeX, which connects the phone to an external display. The Reno16 has neither NFC nor eSIM, but it includes an infrared remote, which lets it control TVs and other appliances. Carrier band support and feature availability depend on your operator and market, so confirm them before buying.

Water resistance and what’s in the box

OPPO lists IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K ratings for the Reno16. Those ratings describe laboratory test conditions for dust and water ingress. They do not guarantee protection against drops, long immersion or wear over time. The Samsung India page reviewed here does not list a rating, so it cannot be compared on this point. Samsung’s page also says the travel adapter is not included and that in-box items may vary by region. OPPO’s India box list includes the charger, USB cable, SIM tool, protective case and quick guide.

Price difference: what the numbers show and what they don’t

Price is the part of this comparison most likely to change, and it is also the part that is hardest to compare fairly. The table below lists every price we could verify, with its date, source and configuration.

Why the ₹2,009 gap is not a verified comparison

On the 91mobiles comparison page accessed 7 October 2026, the Reno16 showed ₹66,999 and the S24 showed ₹64,990, a difference of ₹2,009 in the Reno16’s favour. That figure is a snapshot from a secondary site. The page does not state which Galaxy S24 storage configuration the price applies to, and it does not state which Reno16 configuration the ₹66,999 applies to. OPPO’s own official price for the 8GB/256GB model on 31 August 2026 is the same ₹66,999, but the date and the retailer are different, so the figures should not be read as a direct match.

Samsung’s India page confirms the 8GB/128GB specifications but gives no current price. Do not treat ₹64,990 as Samsung’s official price, and do not assume it applies to the 128GB model.

Which phone fits which buyer

The better phone depends on what you need from it. The points below are based only on the published specifications.

  • Choose the Galaxy S24 if you want a smaller, lighter phone, need NFC or eSIM, or use Samsung DeX. A 128GB configuration is enough for your files and apps, and you are comfortable with a smaller battery.
  • Choose the Reno16 if you want a larger screen, a bigger battery, faster listed charging, a wider or longer-zoom camera system, or more internal storage at the base configuration. It is also the better choice if you value the infrared remote and the included case and charger.
  • Consider neither yet if you need a specific camera result, a verified battery run time or a particular software update commitment. None of these is established by the published specifications, so test them yourself or look for independent reviews first.

Before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact model: Samsung Galaxy S24 8GB/128GB for India, and OPPO Reno16 5G CPH2865 (not Reno16c, CPH2859).
  2. Match storage size on both phones before comparing prices.
  3. Check whether your network and bank support eSIM, NFC and the bands you need.
  4. Check the price and the seller on the day of purchase, using the OPPO India and Samsung India pages as the official references. OPPO’s Reno16 details page gives the dated official prices.
  5. Compare the box contents listed for your market, since accessories such as the charger and case differ between the two.

For the price snapshot referred to above, see the 91mobiles comparison page.
