The Galaxy S23 is the better fit if you want a compact phone, a dedicated 3× optical telephoto camera or Samsung DeX. The Galaxy A57 is the stronger choice for a larger display, a higher stated battery capacity and a longer published software-support commitment. Neither is simply “better” for everyone: the right choice depends on which of those differences matters to you and the price of the exact model available in your country.

Size and screen: choose compact or expansive
Galaxy S23: easier to carry and handle
At 6.1 inches and 168g, the S23 is substantially shorter and narrower than the A57. Its 146.3 × 70.9 mm footprint is the more manageable option for smaller hands, pockets and one-handed use. It is 7.6mm thick, however, so it is not the thinner phone.
Galaxy A57: more room for viewing
The A57’s 6.7-inch display gives you a larger viewing area for video, reading and multitasking. It measures 161.5 × 76.8 mm and weighs 179g: larger overall, but thinner than the S23 at 6.9mm. Both phones have FHD+ OLED-class displays with refresh rates of up to 120Hz, so the choice here is primarily screen size and handling rather than a stated refresh-rate advantage.
#1 Best Overall
- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
Cameras: optical zoom favors the S23
The S23 has three distinct rear cameras, including a 10MP telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom. That dedicated lens makes it the clearer choice if you often photograph distant subjects and want optical reach without relying only on digital cropping.
The A57 replaces a telephoto camera with a 5MP macro module, alongside its 50MP wide and 12MP ultra-wide cameras. That gives it dedicated close-up hardware, but it does not offer the S23’s listed 3× optical telephoto lens. Megapixel counts alone do not establish which phone takes better pictures, and the available specifications do not provide a controlled, independent camera comparison.

Battery: A57 has greater stated capacity, not a proven runtime lead
Samsung lists a typical capacity of 5,000mAh for the A57 and 3,900mAh for the S23. That is a meaningful difference on paper, but capacity by itself cannot predict how long either phone lasts: screen size, components, software, settings and usage all affect runtime. No comparable head-to-head battery test is established here.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSamsung advertises that the A57 can reach up to 60% charge in around 30 minutes with Super Fast Charging 2.0. On its cited UAE S23 page, Samsung lists up to 22 hours of wireless video playback. These are different manufacturer claims and should not be treated as a direct charging-speed or endurance comparison.

Durability and software support
Both carry an IP68 rating
Samsung’s S23 launch materials describe IP68 resistance, and Samsung lists an IP68 rating for the A57. A rating is not a guarantee against damage in every situation; it should not be read as making either phone waterproof or damage-proof.
A57 has the longer original update commitment
Samsung’s 2023 S23 environmental report states four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. For the A57, Samsung publishes up to six generations of OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. On the commitments Samsung announced, the A57 has the longer support runway. The S23 launched in 2023 and the A57 in 2026, so remaining support time depends on when each device launched and which updates it has already received; check Samsung’s current support information for your region before buying.

- Galaxy S23 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X flat display with adaptive 48–120 Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and a peak brightness high enough for strong outdoor visibility — giving you vibrant, crisp visuals and smooth motion while staying compact.
DeX: a specific advantage for the S23
Samsung lists DeX support for the S23, allowing users to access a desktop-style Samsung interface on a compatible display. DeX is not listed as supported on the cited A57 product page. If you rely on DeX, that distinction points to the S23; do not assume the A57 supports it based on other Galaxy A models.
Price difference: launch prices are not today’s prices
Samsung’s U.S. price list effective April 2023 set the unlocked 128GB Galaxy S23 at $799.99 MSRP. Samsung announced a U.S. starting launch price of $549.99 for the A57 in 2026, with U.S. availability beginning April 9, 2026. The arithmetic difference between those launch figures is $250, with the A57’s lower. Because the figures are from launches three years apart, they do not tell you the current street-price gap.

Launch prices also differed across markets and A57 storage tiers. TechRadar reported the following prices in its April 2026 review; these are launch figures, not live offers:
| Market | Galaxy A57 configuration | Reported launch price |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 8GB / 128GB | $549 |
| United States | 8GB / 256GB | $609 |
| United Kingdom | 8GB / 256GB | £529 |
| United Kingdom | 12GB / 512GB | £699 |
| Australia | 8GB / 128GB | AU$749 |
| Australia | 8GB / 256GB | AU$849 |
When comparing offers, check the same country and storage capacity, and distinguish new from used or refurbished condition. Carrier compatibility, stock and seller reliability also matter. Samsung Gulf’s S23 listing currently says “Not for sale”; it is a regional listing, not evidence of a universal price or availability status.
Which phone should you choose?
Choose the Galaxy S23 if
- You want a substantially smaller and lighter phone.
- You value a dedicated telephoto camera with 3× optical zoom.
- You use Samsung DeX.
- You have found an offer whose price, condition, storage and regional compatibility make sense for you.
Choose the Galaxy A57 if
- You prefer a larger 6.7-inch display.
- You prioritize its larger stated battery capacity, while understanding that it does not prove longer real-world runtime.
- You want the longer published software-support commitment.
- You would use its dedicated macro camera more than a telephoto lens.
Before ordering either phone, verify the exact regional model, storage, carrier bands and price. The S23 specifications cited here are for a 128GB UAE variant; the A57 specifications are from Samsung’s Saudi Arabia listing, and availability and configurations differ by market.
