The Galaxy S21 is the smaller, lighter phone; the Galaxy S21 FE gives you a larger screen and a higher stated battery capacity. Their camera hardware differs, but specifications alone cannot establish which takes better photos. Processor and software status depend on the exact regional model, so check the unit you are considering—especially if buying used.

Which phone is better for your priorities?
Choose the S21 for a more compact phone
At 71.2mm wide and 151.7mm tall, the S21 is narrower and shorter than the FE, and its listed weight is 169g or 171g depending on Sub6 or mmWave configuration. That makes it the more promising option if you prefer a phone that takes up less space in a pocket or bag. Hand comfort is personal, so dimensions are a useful starting point rather than a guarantee that it will feel right.

The FE’s screen measures 6.4 inches, compared with 6.2 inches on the S21. Both are FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays; Samsung lists a 48–120Hz range for the S21 and 120Hz for the FE. The larger panel is the clearer fit if screen size is a priority, while the S21’s smaller body may suit people who value easier handling.

Consider the FE’s higher stated battery capacity, but inspect battery condition
Samsung lists typical capacities of 4,500mAh for the FE and 4,000mAh for the S21. Capacity is not a real-world battery-life test: actual endurance depends on usage and, for an older or refurbished phone, the condition of that specific battery. Don’t assume the FE will last longer in your hands solely from the capacity figure.
Compare camera hardware, not just megapixels
Both phones have 12MP wide and 12MP ultrawide rear cameras. The S21’s listed telephoto camera is 64MP, while the FE has an 8MP 3x telephoto camera. On the front, Samsung lists 10MP for the S21 and 32MP for the FE. These numbers describe hardware, not comparative photo quality; the available specifications do not establish which camera produces better results.

Check the processor in the exact regional model
Samsung lists Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 options for both phones and notes that the CPU depends on region and mobile operator. The name of the phone alone therefore does not tell you which processor a particular unit has. Before buying, confirm its full model code and the configuration offered in your market rather than assuming two listings refer to identical hardware.
Check software support by model code and region
Update history is specific to the model and market, and a single regional record cannot establish the status of every S21 or S21 FE. Samsung’s published logs illustrate why checking the exact SKU matters: its page for S21 FE model SM-G990B2 records an Android 16 update released September 29, 2026, with security patch level August 5, 2026; a separate record for Japanese S21 model SCG09 records Android 15 released November 12, 2025, with security patch level September 1, 2025. What to verify before buying a used or refurbished unit
Because these are older models, the individual phone’s condition and the seller’s price matter alongside the original specifications. This comparison does not establish current prices, battery health, or seller reliability. Use the listing and the handset itself to answer those questions rather than treating published specifications as proof of a unit’s condition.
- Confirm the exact model code, regional variant, and processor configuration.
- Check the phone’s battery condition and whether it meets your everyday needs.
- Inspect the screen, cameras, buttons, charging port, and body for wear or damage.
- Look up the software update record for that precise model and region.
- Compare the specific unit’s condition and asking price with the alternative phone you can actually buy.
Verdict: S21 for size, S21 FE for screen area
For a compact handset, the Galaxy S21 is the straightforward choice. For a larger display and higher stated battery capacity, consider the S21 FE. Neither spec sheet settles camera quality or real-world battery life, and processor and update details require checking the exact model. For a used-phone purchase, make the final call based on the condition and price of the actual units available.
