The Samsung Galaxy M36 5G is the stronger fit if you want a sharper AMOLED display and a stated long-term software-update commitment. The Xiaomi Redmi 17 5G gives you a larger screen, much higher rated battery capacity, and faster charging. Neither is an automatic winner: the right choice depends on which trade-offs matter to you and the live price of the exact memory variant.

Choose the M36 for panel type and resolution
Samsung specifies a 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. That gives the M36 the stronger listed display specification if you prioritize resolution and AMOLED technology.

The Redmi 17 5G’s screen is larger at 6.9 inches, and its refresh rate is listed as up to 120Hz. Its panel is HD+ LCD, however, so a bigger display does not mean a sharper one. Choose it if screen area matters more than the M36’s specified panel type and resolution.

Battery capacity and charging: Redmi has the larger ratings
Xiaomi lists a 7,900mAh typical battery, 45W charging, and up to 22.5W wired reverse charging for the Redmi 17 5G. Samsung lists a 5,000mAh battery and 25W charging for the M36. On rated capacity and charging power, the Redmi leads. These figures do not establish how many hours either phone will last in everyday use; no independent, controlled comparison of runtime is established here. Xiaomi also lists a 45W adapter in the box.
Camera hardware: stabilization and extra modules on Samsung
Samsung specifies a 50MP main rear camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), alongside 8MP ultrawide and 2MP macro cameras. Xiaomi lists a 50MP main camera and an auxiliary lens. The M36 also has a higher-resolution listed front camera: 13MP versus 8MP on the Redmi.

These are hardware distinctions, not proof that one phone takes better pictures. A shared 50MP label does not make camera results equivalent, and the specifications cited here do not provide a comparative image-quality test.

Processor and software support
The M36 uses Samsung’s 5nm Exynos 1380, while the Redmi 17 5G uses Qualcomm’s 4nm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5. The chip names and manufacturing-process figures alone do not establish which phone performs better in comparable everyday use or games.

Samsung states that the M36 will receive six generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates. Xiaomi’s product overview shows HyperOS 3, but the official specification material cited here does not establish an equivalent duration for Redmi 17 5G updates. If a clearly stated support period is important to your purchase, Samsung’s published commitment is the more explicit one.
Durability and storage differences
Samsung announces Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection for the M36. Xiaomi lists Gorilla Glass 7i and IP64 dust and splash resistance for the Redmi 17 5G. Those are different kinds of protection: IP64 is not a waterproof rating, and Xiaomi warns against immersion and notes that protection can diminish with use.

The M36 has three listed India configurations, up to 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. Xiaomi’s India specification page lists 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB for the Redmi, with microSD expansion up to 2TB; the card is sold separately. Check the exact variant before comparing prices, especially if you need more than 128GB of built-in storage.
Launch prices versus the later price snapshot
Samsung’s India announcement, dated 30 June 2025, listed launch prices for the Galaxy M36 5G and said it would be available from 12 July 2025. The 6GB+128GB figure includes a ₹1,000 instant bank discount. These are launch prices, not current offers.

Which phone should you choose?
- Choose the Galaxy M36 5G if a higher-resolution AMOLED display, OIS on the main camera, a named ultrawide camera, or Samsung’s stated update duration matters most.
- Choose the Redmi 17 5G if you prefer a larger screen, higher rated battery capacity, faster listed charging, wired reverse charging, or microSD expansion.
