The Samsung GALAXY Camera EK-GC100 is a camera-first hybrid: it pairs dedicated shutter and zoom controls with a touchscreen and Android-era wireless and app features. Samsung’s manual documents automatic and scene-based shooting modes alongside Expert adjustments for ISO, exposure, aperture, and shutter speed. That establishes what the camera was designed to do—not its image quality, present-day app support, or the condition of any used unit.
What the EK-GC100 is
Samsung identifies model EK-GC100 as the “GALAXY Camera” on its Canadian support page. The user manual is specifically labeled for EK-GC100 and carries Samsung Electronics copyright © 2012. It cautions that descriptions reflect default settings and that features and applications can vary by software, service provider, country, region, and hardware.
This is a review of the documented design and buying considerations, not a hands-on test. The manual cannot establish how well a particular camera focuses, how its images look, or whether its old services still work.

How its camera controls and modes work
The manual describes a Camera application for still photos and video, with touch-to-focus, shutter-button capture, video recording, zoom-button operation, and camera settings. It groups shooting options into Auto, Casual, Smart Pro, and Expert modes.

Auto, Casual, and Smart Pro
Auto provides automated shooting. Smart Pro offers scene-oriented choices including Macro, Rich Tone, Action Freeze, Waterfall Trace, and Light Trace. These names describe documented modes; they are not evidence of image quality or performance.
Expert controls
Expert mode includes manual adjustment options for ISO sensitivity, exposure value, aperture, and shutter speed. The availability of settings depends on the selected mode, and the manual notes that not every setting applies to both still and video shooting.

Focus and zoom limitations
- Manual focus is not available in video mode.
- Zoom may be unavailable at the highest resolution for video recording and still shooting.
- The camera can shut off automatically when unused.
These are operating caveats from the manual, not observations from a test of a working unit.

Storage
The camera has a memory-card slot, but Samsung warns that “Some memory cards may not be fully compatible with the device.” The manual says memory cards must use the FAT file system. Its extracted maximum-capacity line reads “XX GB,” so a maximum capacity is not established here. Test the specific card in the camera rather than relying on an assumed limit.

Battery and charging
The manual identifies a removable included battery and instructs users to “Use only Samsung-approved chargers, batteries, and cables.” It also says an empty battery may require several minutes of charging before the camera can turn on. For a used unit, check that the battery holds charge and confirm that a suitable replacement can actually be obtained; the manual does not specify a current stock source or exact replacement part number.
Connectivity and software: historical features, not guarantees today
The manual documents Wi-Fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, microSIM use, and Android applications, while warning that availability can vary by region or service provider. Those historical capabilities do not establish current app availability, cloud-service operation, compatibility with a modern carrier, or which cellular bands a particular regional unit supports. If connectivity matters, verify the exact model suffix and test the intended functions with the relevant network and region before buying.

Samsung’s support page for the model lists Kies downloads dated 2012 and 2013. Treat those as legacy transfer and synchronization references, not proof that Kies will install or run on a current computer. The manual also documents USB file-transfer modes including MTP and PTP.
What to check before buying a used EK-GC100
- Check the unit label and confirm it identifies the model as EK-GC100; do not assume another Galaxy Camera variant is the same model.
- Operate the lens extension and retraction, zoom, focus, flash, touchscreen, shutter, video capture, and every button. These checks assess the individual unit, not a general performance claim.
- Check charging behavior and battery condition, and confirm the supplied battery and charger are appropriate for the camera.
- Insert the memory card you intend to use, verify that the camera recognizes it, and check its formatting. Do not infer a maximum capacity from the manual’s unresolved “XX GB” text.
- If mobile connectivity or apps are important, test them on the exact camera and intended network or region before purchase.
- Ask about repair history and included accessories. Current repair and spare-parts availability is not established by the historical manual or support listings.
Official reference
Samsung’s Canadian support page is the reference for the EK-GC100 model listing, its English user manual, and the dated Kies downloads. The manual is useful for documented controls and warnings, but neither source establishes current software, network, repair, or parts availability.
