The key difference is how each earbud attaches: Galaxy Buds On clips around the ear and leaves the ear canal open, while standard Galaxy Buds3 rests at the ear in an angled open-type design. Choose Buds On if that clip and open-canal feel suit your listening; choose Buds3 if you want Samsung’s angled fit, documented ANC and Galaxy-device audio features. Samsung has announced Buds On for South Korea first, with no other market dates or prices specified as of October 3, 2026.
How the two open-ear designs differ
| Decision factor | Galaxy Buds On | Galaxy Buds3 (standard) |
|---|---|---|
| How it sits | A clip-on band rests around the ear without blocking the ear canal. Samsung says it broadened the contact area to distribute pressure and adjusted band elasticity for stability during movement; those are design goals, not a guarantee of individual fit. Samsung’s announcement | An angled, open-type earbud sits at the ear. Samsung says the shape is intended to bring sound closer and fit snugly to seal in sound, while minimizing ear-canal pressure. Samsung UK product page |
| Listening context | Samsung positions the open clip format for daily listening and outdoor movement where awareness of surroundings may matter. This is not a safety guarantee. | Samsung documents ANC and Adaptive EQ/ANC. Their experience depends on fit and supported devices; an open-type earbud should not be assumed to provide the passive isolation of a sealed in-ear model. |
| Audio features | TwinBoost speakers, automatic volume adjustment based on surroundings, and Audio Leakage Reduction are announced features. Samsung describes leakage reduction as intended to limit sound escaping in public; no independent measurement is established here. | An 11 mm speaker and Samsung Seamless Codec up to 24-bit/96 kHz on specified compatible Galaxy devices and software. Samsung also lists Galaxy AI features with compatibility conditions. |
| Controls | Light touch on the back for playback and calls. | Swipe the blade for volume; pinch for playback and pinch-and-hold for an assigned function. |
| Battery information | Samsung specifies up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on one charge. Its announcement does not establish total playback with the charging case. | Samsung UK lists typical capacities of 48 mAh per earbud and 515 mAh for the case. These capacity figures are not runtime. |
| Launch and price | Announced in black for South Korea on October 27, 2026, at KRW 299,000. Samsung says global rollout will follow but gives no other dates or prices in the announcement. | Established product with an official UK listing. Price and availability vary by market and date; check a current local listing. |
Which one is more likely to stay in while moving?
Buds On is the only one of the pair with a clip that wraps around the ear, so it is the more direct option to consider if you want an attachment beyond an earbud resting at the ear. Samsung says it designed the contact area and band tension for stability during large movements. That is a manufacturer design claim, not an independent running test or a promise that it will stay put for every ear.
Buds3 uses an angled earbud that sits at the ear. Samsung describes its fit as snug, but neither geometry establishes which will feel more secure or comfortable to a particular person. If possible, try the design you are considering before relying on it for exercise.

Open canal or ANC: what do you want from listening?
Choose Buds On for an open canal
Buds On is designed not to block the ear. That can suit listeners who prefer an open-canal form while walking or doing everyday outdoor activities. Open ears do not guarantee safety or awareness: loud playback and environmental conditions can still mask sounds. Samsung’s automatic volume adjustment and Audio Leakage Reduction are stated product features, not independently measured outcomes.

Choose Buds3 for Samsung’s documented noise-control features
Samsung lists ANC and Adaptive EQ/ANC for Buds3. If noise control is a priority, those features make Buds3 the more relevant choice between these two; effectiveness and comfort depend on fit. Its open-type design is not the same as a sealed in-ear model, and ANC does not ensure that every surrounding sound will be blocked.
What sound and Galaxy features does each offer?
Galaxy Buds On
Samsung lists TwinBoost speakers for bass support, automatic volume adjustment based on surroundings, and Audio Leakage Reduction. It also identifies a Snapdragon S7 Gen 1 Sound Platform and a Class-D amplifier. The announcement does not provide independent listening measurements, so treat these as announced specifications and intended features rather than proof of comparative sound quality.

Galaxy Buds3
Samsung specifies an 11 mm speaker and Samsung Seamless Codec support up to 24-bit/96 kHz, but limits that highest-resolution feature to specified Galaxy devices and required One UI software. Galaxy AI functions such as Interpreter also have requirements, including a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, account and language support, and sometimes a download. Features will not necessarily work identically with every Bluetooth device.
Buds3’s blade supports swipe volume control, pinch for playback or app control, and pinch-and-hold for an assigned function. Buds On instead uses a light touch on the back for playback and call functions.

Battery figures: what can be compared?
Samsung states that Buds On provides up to 9.5 hours of continuous music playback on one charge. The announcement does not establish total playback time including the case, so do not treat that number as a case-inclusive figure.
Samsung UK lists Buds3 battery capacity as 48 mAh per earbud and 515 mAh for the case. Capacity cannot be converted directly into listening time; the figures do not support a runtime comparison with Buds On. Check Samsung’s regional specifications for Buds3 playtime and the conditions attached to it, including ANC status, before comparing runtimes.
