The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is a released 2025 phone, not an upcoming model. Samsung announced it on March 2, 2025, gave it an official worldwide availability date of March 28, and launched it in the United States on July 18, 2025, starting at $499.99. It has since been replaced as Samsung’s current A5x phone by the Galaxy A57. The A56 remains attractive for its bright AMOLED display, long software-support promise, strong battery life, metal-and-glass design and 45W wired charging, but it is only a sensible 2026 purchase at a substantial discount. Samsung’s US store pages showed the A56 out of stock when checked, and Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP file labels the US configurations EOL.
Verdict: Buy the Galaxy A56 only when it is clearly cheaper than the newer Galaxy A57 and you do not need microSD storage, wireless charging, an included charger or a telephoto camera.
Samsung Galaxy A56 release date
There is no single universal Galaxy A56 release date. Samsung’s announcement, worldwide availability and US retail launch happened on different dates:

| Announcement | March 2, 2025 | Samsung unveiled the Galaxy A56 5G alongside the Galaxy A36 5G and Galaxy A26 5G. |
| Official worldwide availability | March 28, 2025 | Samsung announced that the phones were available worldwide. Some markets may have begun sales at slightly different times. |
| United States availability | July 18, 2025 | The delayed US launch began at $499.99 for the unlocked 128GB version. |
Therefore, an article saying the A56 was released on March 2 is referring to the announcement, not the date customers could buy it. For US shoppers, the useful date is July 18, 2025. See Samsung’s original global announcement, worldwide-availability announcement and US launch announcement.

| 8GB RAM, 128GB storage | $499.99 |
| 8GB RAM, 256GB storage | $549.99 |
Samsung’s US announcement quoted a starting price of $499.99. Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP file lists the same $499.99 and $549.99 prices for the unlocked 128GB and 256GB models, respectively. Those are launch/MSRP reference points, not necessarily what a retailer should charge in 2026.

International pricing and configurations
Do not apply the US price or configuration universally. Samsung’s global specification table lists 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB versions, but also says that storage options vary by carrier, market and region. Colors, taxes, launch promotions, RAM, SIM configuration and availability can all change the final price.
An imported phone advertised as a Galaxy A56 may also differ from the US model in cellular bands, eSIM support, warranty coverage, Samsung Wallet behavior and update timing. US buyers should verify the exact model number rather than relying only on the product name.

Is the Galaxy A56 still available in 2026?
Availability is now a significant part of the buying decision. Samsung’s US direct-buy pages showed the A56 as out of stock when checked, while Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP document marks the US configurations EOL. That does not prove that every retailer or marketplace has run out of new stock, but it does mean Samsung is no longer treating the A56 as a current US product.
Remaining inventory may be sold by third-party retailers, and international versions may still be easy to find. Before buying one, check the seller’s return policy, warranty, model number, storage, RAM, 5G bands and carrier compatibility. Samsung’s US product pages for the 128GB model and another US unlocked listing are useful references for identifying the regional product, even when stock is unavailable.
What price makes the A56 sensible in 2026?
Samsung’s newer Galaxy A57 changes the value calculation. As of August 9, 2026, Samsung’s US A57 page showed list prices of $549.99 for 128GB and $609.99 for 256GB, with displayed promotional prices of $449.99 and $509.99. Promotions can change, but those figures are a useful baseline for evaluating leftover A56 stock. See the current Galaxy A57 US store page.
- At or near $500: Usually skip the A56. The A57 is the newer generation and may be available for a similar price.
- Around $400 to $450: Consider it only if the A56 is the 256GB version, includes a strong warranty or offers a feature you specifically prefer.
- Around $350 to $400: A new, US-compatible A56 with a proper warranty can be reasonable, particularly for buyers who value Samsung’s display, software and battery life.
- Below $350: It becomes a compelling discounted or refurbished option, provided the condition, battery health, model number and return terms are trustworthy.
These are buying guidelines rather than fixed market prices. The central rule is simple: the A56 needs a clear price advantage over the A57, not merely a lower price than its original MSRP.
Samsung Galaxy A56 specifications
The following table combines Samsung’s global and regional specifications. RAM, storage, SIM options, 5G bands, colors and even weight can vary by market. The US launch versions had 8GB of RAM with either 128GB or 256GB of storage; the global range also included a 12GB/256GB configuration.
| Category | Galaxy A56 5G specification | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Launch software | Android 15 with One UI 7 | This was the original shipping software, not the phone’s final software version. |
| Current software example | Android 16; One UI 8 and One UI 8.5 listed for the US unlocked model | Rollout timing varies by model, carrier and region. |
| Processor | Samsung Exynos 1580, octa-core | CPU clusters are listed at 2.9GHz, 2.6GHz and 1.9GHz on Samsung’s regional specification page. |
| Display | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED | The stated 6.7-inch diagonal is approximately 6.5 inches when accounting for the rounded corners and camera cutout. |
| Resolution | 1080 × 2340 pixels | Maximum refresh rate is 120Hz. |
| Brightness | Up to 1,200 nits in High Brightness Mode | Samsung’s figure is an HBM claim, not a promise of sustained full-screen brightness. |
| Rear cameras | 50MP main, 12MP ultrawide, 5MP macro | The main camera has autofocus and optical image stabilization. There is no telephoto camera. |
| Front camera | 12MP, f/2.2 | Fixed focus; supports Samsung’s advertised Super HDR selfie video and 10-bit HDR front recording. |
| Video | Up to 4K at 30fps | Slow motion is supported up to 240fps at HD according to Samsung’s regional specification page. |
| RAM and storage | 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB globally | Availability varies by market. US launch configurations were 128GB and 256GB with 8GB RAM. |
| Battery | 5,000mAh typical; 4,905mAh rated/minimum capacity | Non-removable. |
| Wired charging | 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 | The charger is sold separately. |
| Wireless charging | No | The A56 does not support wireless charging. |
| Water and dust resistance | IP67 | Based on controlled freshwater laboratory testing, not a guarantee for pool, beach or long-term water exposure. |
| Front and rear glass | Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ | Samsung says the front and rear are covered; camera glass is excluded. |
| Frame | Metal | Gives the phone a more premium construction than many budget devices. |
| Dimensions | 162.2 × 77.5 × 7.4mm | Regional specifications and measurement conventions may differ slightly. |
| Weight | 198g | Samsung’s global specification figure; some regional listings can vary. |
| SIM | Market-dependent nano-SIM and eSIM combinations | Regional versions may support SIM + SIM, SIM + eSIM or dual eSIM. Do not assume all combinations are available everywhere. |
| 5G | Sub-6 5G | Supported bands vary by regional model. |
| Wi-Fi | Wi-Fi 6, 802.11ax | — |
| Bluetooth | Bluetooth 5.3 | — |
| Port | USB-C, USB 2.0 | Do not expect USB 3-class transfer speeds or desktop-class video output. |
| Headphone jack | None | Wired audio uses USB-C or an adapter. |
| Expandable storage | No microSD slot | This is a significant practical change from the Galaxy A55. |
| Speakers | Stereo speakers | — |
| Fingerprint reader | In-display optical sensor | Review testing found it reliable, but it is not the ultrasonic sensor used in Samsung’s flagship models. |
Samsung’s global launch announcement and the detailed regional specification page are the best references for checking a particular version.
Design and display
The A56 combines a metal frame with Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and rear. At 7.4mm thick and 198g, it is slimmer and lighter than the Galaxy A55, which Samsung’s business-report comparison lists at approximately 8.2mm and 213g. It is still a large phone, but the reduction is useful for people upgrading from the A55 or another older A-series device.
The 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel is one of the A56’s strongest features. Its 1080 × 2340 resolution is not unusually dense, but it is sharp enough for reading, streaming, photos and everyday applications. The 120Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and supported animations look smoother than on a conventional 60Hz screen.

- AWESOMELY LIGHT: The sleeker, lighter design of Galaxy A56 5G makes it easier and more comfortable to hold as you browse, snap and share as compared to Galaxy A54 5G.
- AWESOME MADE EASY: The Awesome Intelligence of Galaxy A56 is like having a suite of superpowers. You can find answers quicker using Circle to Search with Google.7 Plus, get the photos and videos you want with tools like Best Face and Auto Trim .
- AWESOMELY VIVID DETAIL: The ultra-clear 6.7” display of Galaxy A56 5G helps you enjoy the latest shows, your favorite pics or fun social videos in awesome detail.2
- DELIGHT IN THE DETAILS: Galaxy A56 5G comes equipped with a triple-lens camera. A 50MP main camera gets great details, even at a distance. The 12MP wide camera allows you to get stunning clarity in your broader shots.
- LASTS LONG. CHARGES FAST: The 5,000mAh battery in Galaxy A56 5G lets you do what you want without worrying about running out of power. And the 45W Super Fast Charging 2.0 recharges your phone faster so you can get back to doing awesome things faster.3
Samsung rates the panel at up to 1,200 nits in High Brightness Mode and includes Vision Booster for bright conditions. Independent measurements are broadly positive but should not be confused with Samsung’s specification: Notebookcheck measured approximately 1,184 cd/m² in its standard brightness comparison and up to about 2,001 cd/m² on smaller white areas under its own test conditions. Different test patterns, screen areas and measurement methods explain why those numbers are not interchangeable.
One edge case is OLED flicker. Notebookcheck measured display flicker at up to 240Hz. That does not mean every owner will experience discomfort, but people who are sensitive to pulse-width modulation should inspect the phone in person where possible and buy from a retailer with a practical return policy.
IP67 does not mean waterproof
The IP67 rating means the phone passed controlled laboratory testing involving dust and temporary freshwater submersion of up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. Samsung describes the device as water-resistant, not permanently waterproof, and says resistance can diminish with wear. Avoid treating the A56 as suitable for swimming, salt water, chlorinated pools, beaches or deliberate underwater photography. Samsung’s specification and product notes contain the relevant limitations.
Performance and gaming
The Exynos 1580 is a meaningful step up from the Galaxy A55’s Exynos 1480, and the A56 feels comfortable with normal phone tasks. Web browsing, messaging, social media, streaming, navigation, photography and multitasking are all within its intended range.

TechRadar recorded these Geekbench 6 results:
| Phone | Single-core | Multi-core |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy A56 | 1,330 | 3,759 |
| Galaxy A55 | 1,155 | 3,468 |
| Motorola Edge 50 Pro | 1,132 | 3,076 |
| Poco F6 Pro | 1,375 | 4,733 |
These results show the A56 improving on the A55 and competing acceptably with some mid-range phones, but they also show why it is not a performance leader at its original $500 price. TechRadar’s 3DMark testing placed it well behind the Poco F6 Pro. See the full TechRadar review and benchmark results.
Gaming results depend heavily on the title and settings. Notebookcheck found that demanding games could require reduced settings and could show stutters or warmth. SamMobile, using more everyday workloads, found the A56 noticeably smoother than earlier A-series phones and praised its larger vapor chamber and heat management. These findings are not necessarily contradictory: short everyday use and sustained high-load gaming measure different aspects of the phone.
- Good for: ordinary games, streaming, browsing, photography and everyday multitasking.
- Acceptable for: demanding games at reduced or medium settings.
- Look elsewhere for: maximum frame rates, intensive emulation or sustained high-end gaming.
Cameras
Hardware
The rear camera system consists of a 50MP main camera with autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro camera. The front camera is a 12MP fixed-focus unit with an f/2.2 aperture. Rear video recording reaches 4K at 30fps.
Samsung also advertises Super HDR selfie video and 10-bit HDR front-camera recording. These features can improve highlight and color information in compatible recording and viewing workflows, but they do not turn the A56 into a professional video camera.
Real-world camera expectations
- Main camera: The most useful camera on the phone. Reviews generally found it capable in daylight and useful for ordinary low-light photography, with OIS helping reduce blur from hand movement.
- Ultrawide: Useful for architecture, groups and landscapes, but less detailed than the main camera.
- Macro: The 5MP sensor is a limited close-up option rather than a replacement for a high-quality telephoto or dedicated macro system.
- Zoom: There is no telephoto lens. Longer-range images rely on digital cropping, so detail falls off more quickly than on a phone with optical zoom.
- Selfies: The 12MP camera has fewer nominal megapixels than the A55’s 32MP selfie camera, but megapixel count alone does not determine image quality. SamMobile reported better detail from the newer camera in its testing.
The A56’s Best Face feature works from Motion Photos, can recognize up to five people and selects expressions from captured frames. It is better understood as frame selection and processing than as an image generator inventing new faces. Samsung’s regional camera specifications and SamMobile’s camera testing provide more detail.
Battery life and charging
The Galaxy A56 has a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery, with a 4,905mAh rated/minimum capacity. Battery life is one of its stronger areas, although results depend on network conditions, brightness, refresh rate, gaming, camera use and background applications.

Samsung claims up to 29 hours of video playback. That figure comes from a controlled third-party test using pre-release hardware and specified settings and network conditions; it should not be read as a guarantee of 29 hours of screen-on time in normal use.
Independent testing was favorable but varied:
- Tom’s Guide recorded a 14% battery drop during a three-hour 1080p YouTube test, compared with 18% for the Pixel 8a and 22% for the Galaxy A55 in the same test.
- SamMobile reported up to 52 hours of total use with eight hours of screen-on time in its own usage pattern, while finding real charging results less impressive than Samsung’s headline claims.
- Android Authority measured approximately 75 minutes from empty to full.
- Tech Advisor measured approximately 72 minutes for a full charge and more than two-thirds capacity after 30 minutes with a suitable charger.
The phone supports up to 45W wired Super Fast Charging 2.0, but the power adapter is not included. A compatible, suitably certified charger and cable are required to approach the maximum rate. A lower-wattage adapter will still charge the phone, but more slowly. The A56 also has no wireless charging. See the charging observations from Android Authority, Tech Advisor and Samsung’s US product listing.

Software, AI features and updates
Launch software and current status
The A56 launched with Android 15 and One UI 7. Samsung’s US unlocked update history lists Android 16 and One UI 8/8.5 updates, including a One UI 8.5 release record dated May 21, 2026 and a May 28, 2026 security-update record for model SM-A566U1. Carrier and regional models can receive updates at different times. Check Samsung’s official update history for the relevant model.
Samsung’s update promise
Samsung promises up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and up to six years of security updates. The wording matters: this is a maximum support-period promise, not a guarantee that every regional model will receive identical updates on the same day or receive monthly patches for the entire period.
It is reasonable to infer that six OS generations beginning with Android 15 could extend as far as Android 21, but Samsung says up to six generations. Android 21 should therefore be treated as an inference, not a guaranteed version-by-version schedule.
What is Awesome Intelligence?
Awesome Intelligence is Samsung’s A-series branding for a set of AI-assisted functions. It is useful, but it should not be presented as equivalent to the complete Galaxy AI package on a flagship Galaxy S Ultra phone. Features include:
- Circle to Search, including recognition of phone numbers, email addresses, URLs and songs.
- Object Eraser for removing unwanted elements from images.
- Custom Filters for creating photo looks.
- Auto Trim for producing video montages.
- Best Face, which selects better expressions from Motion Photos.
- Low Noise Mode and related camera-processing improvements.
- AI Select and Read Aloud in supported software contexts.
Feature availability depends on country, language, model, carrier and software version. Some functions require an internet connection, updated Google applications or a Samsung account. Samsung’s US announcement and global announcement list the supported features and their qualifications.
Galaxy A56 versus Galaxy A55
The A56 is a worthwhile technical improvement over the A55 in several areas, but it is not a complete camera upgrade and it removes expandable storage.
| Area | Galaxy A56 | Galaxy A55 | Practical effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Processor | Exynos 1580 | Exynos 1480 | The A56 is faster, especially in demanding workloads, although it is not a high-end gaming phone. |
| Display size | 6.7 inches | 6.6 inches | A slightly larger viewing area. |
| Advertised brightness | Up to 1,200 nits HBM | Up to 1,000 nits | Better visibility potential in bright conditions. |
| Wired charging | 45W | 25W | Shorter charging times, provided you buy a suitable charger. |
| Selfie camera | 12MP | 32MP | Lower pixel count on paper, but reviews found the A56 camera can produce more useful detail. |
| Software support | Up to six Android/One UI generations and six years of security updates | Older support commitment and shorter remaining runway | The A56 is the better long-term software purchase if prices are close. |
| Body | 7.4mm, 198g | Approximately 8.2mm, 213g | The A56 is slimmer and lighter. |
| Expandable storage | No microSD | microSD supported | The A55 remains more flexible for large offline libraries. |
| Telephoto camera | No | No | Neither phone provides true optical zoom. |
For an A55 owner, the strongest reasons to upgrade are the Exynos 1580, 45W charging, brighter and slightly larger display, lighter body and longer support promise. The strongest reasons to keep the A55 are its microSD slot and the fact that the rear-camera hardware does not fundamentally add a telephoto option.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Galaxy A56 versus Galaxy A57
The Galaxy A57 5G is the current A5x model after Samsung unveiled it on April 14, 2026. That makes the A56 an older-generation phone, even though its hardware remains capable.
As of August 9, 2026, Samsung’s US store showed the A57 at list prices of $549.99 for 128GB and $609.99 for 256GB, with displayed promotional prices of $449.99 and $509.99. These are date-sensitive promotional figures, not permanent prices. The A57 launch announcement confirms the successor relationship, while Samsung’s current US store page shows its selling price.

(No U.S. manufacturer warranty; Seller Return policy applies.)
The buying rule is more important than a long feature checklist: if an A56 costs close to the A57, choose the A57 because it is the current generation, is more likely to have a longer remaining support runway and is easier to buy through Samsung’s normal US channel. Choose the A56 when its discount is large enough to compensate for its older status, or when a specific A56 configuration is available at a particularly good price.
Do not assume that an imported A56 is automatically equivalent to a US A56 or that a third-party A57 price includes the same warranty and carrier support. Check the exact model and seller terms for either phone.
Who should buy the Galaxy A56?
Buy it if:
- You find it substantially below its $499.99 US launch MSRP and clearly below the A57’s current price.
- You want Samsung’s software, ecosystem and long update-support promise.
- You prioritize a large, bright AMOLED display and dependable battery life.
- You value a premium-looking metal-and-glass design and 45W wired charging.
- Your photography is mainly daylight, standard 1× shooting and ordinary selfies.
- You do not need microSD expansion, wireless charging or a telephoto lens.
Skip it or choose something else if:
- The price is close to the newer Galaxy A57.
- You require expandable storage for photos, videos, music or offline maps.
- You expect a charger to be included.
- You use wireless charging.
- You are a heavy mobile gamer or want the highest sustained frame rates.
- You need optical zoom.
- You want the most consistent camera performance in difficult lighting.
- You are considering an imported model but cannot verify US bands, eSIM support, warranty and carrier compatibility.
Checklist for buying an imported or leftover A56
- Confirm the model number. A US SM-A566U or SM-A566U1 is not necessarily identical to an international SM-A566E/DS or another regional variant.
- Check cellular bands and carrier certification. An unlocked phone can still lack bands or approval needed by a particular US carrier.
- Verify RAM and storage. A listing may describe the global 12GB/256GB version even though the US launch range was 8GB/128GB and 8GB/256GB.
- Check SIM and eSIM support. Dual-SIM and eSIM combinations are market-dependent.
- Confirm warranty and repair eligibility. An imported phone may not receive the same US warranty service.
- Check Samsung Wallet, language and regional software features. Regional firmware can affect payment services and AI-feature availability.
- Budget for a charger. The A56 supports 45W charging but does not include the power adapter.
- Use a returnable seller. Test signal, 5G, eSIM, camera, fingerprint reader, charging and display flicker during the return window.
Bottom-line buying advice
The Galaxy A56 5G remains a well-rounded mid-range phone: its display is excellent for the class, battery life is strong, the main camera is dependable, the Exynos 1580 is a clear step beyond the A55 and Samsung’s support policy is unusually valuable for a non-flagship device. Its thinner design and 45W charging are meaningful everyday improvements.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Samsung Galaxy A56 released in the United States?
Yes. Samsung announced US availability for July 18, 2025, with launch pricing starting at $499.99 for the 128GB model. It is no longer Samsung’s current A5x phone, and Samsung US pages showed it out of stock when checked in August 2026.
Does the Galaxy A56 have a microSD card slot?
No. The Galaxy A56 does not support microSD expansion, unlike the Galaxy A55. Choose the storage capacity carefully because the phone cannot be upgraded later with a memory card.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Does the Galaxy A56 include a charger?
No. The phone supports up to 45W wired charging, but the power adapter is sold separately. You need a compatible charger and cable to approach the maximum charging speed.
Is the Galaxy A56 waterproof?
No phone should be described as waterproof. The A56 has an IP67 water-and-dust-resistance rating based on controlled freshwater laboratory testing. Samsung does not recommend treating it as suitable for pools, beaches or deliberate underwater use.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The Galaxy A56 is worth considering only when its price is meaningfully below the current Galaxy A57. At a deep discount, it offers a bright 120Hz AMOLED display, long software support, strong battery life, a capable main camera and 45W charging. At a price close to $500—or close to the A57’s promotional price—the newer model is the more rational buy.
