The Galaxy S26 FE is the stronger choice on paper for a telephoto camera, wireless charging, IP68 protection and a longer published software-support commitment. The Galaxy A55 5G remains worth considering if it costs substantially less where you live or if its 32 MP front-camera specification or macro lens better suits you. Samsung India announced the S26 FE at INR 79,999 for 8/256 GB on 14 September 2026, but a current like-for-like A55 price is not established here—so there is no reliable universal price difference to quote.

Samsung’s figures describe specifications, not comparative performance testing. Megapixel counts do not prove which camera takes better photos, a battery-capacity figure does not establish runtime, and a newer processor alone does not quantify speed. Regional configurations and box contents can also differ.
What the differences mean in everyday use
Display and design
Both phones have large FHD+ AMOLED displays with refresh rates up to 120 Hz. The S26 FE’s listed screen is slightly larger at 6.7 inches and uses Samsung’s Dynamic AMOLED 2X designation; the A55 is listed with a 6.6-inch Super AMOLED panel. These specifications do not establish which display looks better in person.

If pocket weight matters, that is a concrete advantage on the spec sheet. Samsung lists the S26 FE as IP68-rated; the cited A55 sources do not establish its water rating, so do not treat the comparison as proof that the A55 has no protection.

Camera flexibility
The main and ultra-wide camera resolutions match on paper: both phones list a 50 MP main camera with optical image stabilization and a 12 MP ultra-wide. The third rear camera is the meaningful distinction. The S26 FE has an 8 MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, while the A55 has a 5 MP macro camera. Choose based on whether distant subjects or close-up macro shots matter more; the lens list alone cannot predict final image quality.
The A55 lists a 32 MP front camera, compared with 12 MP on the S26 FE. More megapixels do not automatically mean better selfies, since factors such as image processing and lighting also matter. There is no head-to-head camera test in the cited material.

Battery and charging
The A55’s stated typical capacity is 5,000 mAh; the S26 FE is listed at 4,900 mAh typical, with a 4,755 mAh rated minimum in Samsung India’s announcement. The capacity difference is small and cannot tell you which phone lasts longer between charges.
Samsung lists 45 W wired and 15 W wireless charging for the S26 FE, compared with 25 W wired charging in its India A55 announcement. The S26 FE’s 45 W adapter is sold separately according to Samsung. Confirm the charger and other included accessories for your regional model before buying.

Software and support
The S26 FE launched with Android 17 and One UI 9. Samsung says it will receive up to seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. The A55 launched with Android 14 and One UI 6.1; that launch specification is not a statement about the software currently installed on a particular handset. The S26 FE has the newer platform and a published support commitment, while the A55’s current support status should be checked against Samsung’s information for your market before purchase.
Price difference: what can be stated
Samsung India’s announcement dated 14 September 2026 lists the Galaxy S26 FE in 8/256 GB configuration at INR 79,999. This is an India-specific launch price, not a global price or a guarantee of today’s retail price. The source set does not establish a contemporaneous A55 price, or prices for another country, so subtracting an old A55 launch price would not produce a meaningful current price difference.

For a fair comparison, check listings in the same country for the same storage capacity and distinguish standard retail pricing from sale discounts, trade-in credits and carrier offers. Also verify local stock: the A55 is a 2024 model, so availability and pricing may vary by retailer and market.

Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if
- You want a dedicated telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
- Wireless charging, faster stated wired charging, or IP68 protection matters to you.
- You value the newer launch software and Samsung’s published seven-generation OS-upgrade and seven-year security-update commitment.
- You prefer the lighter, thinner listed design.
Consider the Galaxy A55 5G if
- It is meaningfully cheaper than the S26 FE at a current, comparable local price.
- The 32 MP front-camera specification or a dedicated macro camera is more useful to you than telephoto zoom.
- You are comfortable checking the specific handset’s software status and local availability before buying an older model.
Neither is an automatic value winner without current local prices and matching storage configurations. Weigh the actual price gap against the S26 FE’s telephoto lens, wireless charging, protection rating and support commitment, rather than comparing launch prices from different years.
