The Samsung Galaxy A55 5G remains a sensible choice if you want a polished mid-range Samsung with a sharp 120Hz AMOLED display, sturdy-feeling build, long battery life and a substantial launch-announced software-support commitment. Its weaker points are camera processing that one reviewer found oversaturated, no wireless charging, no 4K/60fps video and preinstalled software. Whether it is a good buy now depends on your local price, warranty and the alternatives available where you live.
What the Galaxy A55 5G does well
Bright, smooth AMOLED display
Samsung specifies a 6.6-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The 6.6-inch figure measures the screen as a full rectangle; Samsung says the diagonal is 6.4 inches when rounded corners are taken into account. That combination makes the display one of the phone’s clearest strengths on paper. Samsung’s launch specifications do not establish how it compares with every current rival, so check competing models in person if screen quality is your priority.
Solid construction and sustained performance
In a ten-day review, Android Authority praised the A55’s aluminum-frame design, durable front glass and sustained performance, and described its build as premium-feeling for its class. The same reviewer noted an IP67 rating. These are review assessments rather than guarantees about how a particular phone will hold up: water resistance can diminish with wear, and damage or liquid exposure may not be covered by warranty. Large battery and a meaningful support promise
Samsung lists a 5,000mAh typical-capacity battery and a rated minimum capacity of 4,905mAh. Capacity is not a runtime promise: Samsung says actual battery life varies with network environment, usage patterns and other factors. Android Authority counted long battery life among its positives, but that is the reviewer’s experience, not a fixed result for every owner.

At launch, Samsung promised up to four generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and five years of security updates. “Up to” matters: the announcement is a qualified support policy, not a guarantee that every device receives every update at the same time. Samsung’s update history for model SM-A556E records Android 16 on July 23, 2026, with a July 5, 2026 security patch level. That record confirms an update for that model entry; it does not establish identical timing for other countries, operators or A55 variants. Check Samsung’s security update scope and the support information for your exact model and market.
Where the A55 5G falls short
Camera hardware is versatile, but image processing is not for everyone
The rear camera setup comprises a 50MP main camera with autofocus and optical image stabilization, a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 5MP macro camera; the front camera is 32MP, according to Samsung. Megapixel counts and the number of lenses do not by themselves tell you how good the photos will look. Android Authority’s reviewer found the A55’s photos oversaturated, so color preference is a real caveat if you favor natural-looking images. That judgment comes from the reviewer’s ten-day test and should not be treated as a universal result.

Video and charging omissions
Android Authority listed the lack of 4K/60fps recording and wireless charging among the A55’s drawbacks. If either feature is essential, compare the exact recording modes and charging options on the phone you are considering before buying; the A55’s otherwise capable-looking camera specifications do not remove these limitations.

Preinstalled software and missing Galaxy AI
The same review criticized the amount of preinstalled software and noted that the phone lacks Galaxy AI. Whether bundled apps are a significant nuisance depends on your tolerance for removing or ignoring them. If you specifically want Samsung’s Galaxy AI features, the A55 is not the right choice according to that review.

Is the Samsung Galaxy A55 5G still worth buying?
Consider it if you value Samsung’s AMOLED display, a solid-feeling design, long battery life and the announced software-support policy more than wireless charging or top-tier video options. It may also suit you if you prefer Samsung’s interface and can get it at a competitive local price with a clear warranty.
Look elsewhere if you need 4K/60fps video, wireless charging, Galaxy AI or more restrained photo color without adjusting your shooting or editing habits. Android Authority’s 2024 review concluded that the A55 was worth considering at a relatively fair price, while warning readers not to ignore Google and OnePlus mid-range phones. That was a launch-era judgment, not a verdict on today’s prices or competitors.

Price and availability are regional and change over time. Android Authority reported launch-era prices of £439 in the UK and €469 in Europe, and said the phone was not officially available in the US at the time of its 2024 review; none of those details establishes current pricing or availability. What to check before you buy
- Local deal and warranty: Compare the price of your exact A55 variant with current phones sold in your market, and confirm who handles warranty service.
- Model and carrier fit: Check that the specific regional model supports your carrier’s network bands and services; availability or compatibility in one country does not establish it elsewhere.
- Software support: Treat Samsung’s launch policy as “up to” the stated number of upgrades and years of security updates. Confirm update status for your exact model and region rather than assuming another model’s rollout schedule applies.
- Feature priorities: Check whether the camera’s color rendering, video modes, charging options and software fit what you actually use.
